Commander William Riker has heard his former ship Pegasus, wrecked, has presumably been found by Romulans and Starfleet wants to excavate the ship before they do. Something seems to bother him however. He asks counselor Deanna Troi to help. She advises him to open Enterprise' last mission in the holodeck. Riker follows the events and takes over chef's character to learn more insights. Enterprise, meanwhile, is making its last flight through space. Captain Archer is on its way to Earth to give a speech at the signing of the charter that will finally mark the beginning of an alliance between a host of alien races. Then he is suddenly contacted by the presumed dead Andorian Shran, who asks for one last favor. His daughter is kidnapped and he wants Enterprise to help liberate her.

Enterprise is back on Earth where the crew visits a conference led by minister Nathan Samuels. Humans, Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites, Denobulans, Rigelians and Coridanites are discussing the formation of an alliance. Suddenly a woman bumps into T'Pol, telling her to prevent the death of somebody. She hands her a vial with a hair before dying of a phase pistol wounds. Dr. Phlox finds out the hair belongs to a child of Trip and T'Pol, but T'Pol claims never to have been pregnant. Archer asks Samuels about the investigation, but senses he is withholding something. He orders Reed to contact Harris. Harris tells him the woman, Susan Khouri, was a member of the xenophobic organization Terra Prime. Meanwhile Travis meets an old friend, reporter Gannet Brooks. She wants to restart the relationship they had.

Archer and his crew have taken over the Defiant and soon find out the firepower of the vessel. The Tholian ships have no chance whatsoever. There's still one problem as there seems to be a saboteur on board. Two warp regulators are stolen and Kelby is found with a reptilian bite. After Archer takes care of the problem, Enterprise travels back into familiar space. They interfere in a combat between rebels and Empire. Only the Avenger is left and captain Archer has no trouble saving it. Admiral Blake is on board and is impressed by the ship. Archer gets the idea he isn't the one who will gain the credits for this victory and once again decides to take the matter into his own hands.

First officer Jonathan Archer disagrees with a decision captain Forrest is making. He decides to take matters into his own hands and starts a mutiny. In command of Enterprise, Archer sets course for Tholian space. Reports have shown that the Tholians have captured an Earth ship that might have come from another universe.

Enterprise is en route, to the Berengaria system, one of the supposed places for a starbase, when an hostile Orion ship approaches. Its captain, Harrad-Sar, agrees to stand down weapons and he has a proposal for captain Archer. Harrad-Sar wants Starfleet to cooperate in a mining operation. He claims he found a source of magnesite, enough to build a thousand warp drives. To improve relations with the Orion Syndicate, Archer decides to agree with the proposal. Harrad-Sar insists on transporting three slave girls to Enterprise as part of the deal. While Archer tries to convince them they are not slaves anymore, the crew seem to be affected by their arrival. The men seem entranced and preoccupied, getting sloppy with their work, the women develop headaches. Meanwhile Trip and T'Pol discuss their relationship. Trip feels compelled to tell the truth about him having dreams about her.

On Earth Dr. Phlox and Hoshi are attacked by aliens, who kidnap Phlox. Captain Archer vows to find him. Reed tries to access the satellite logs, but suddenly gets in contact with a person he seems to know. He orders him to acknowledge his past and works against Archer. T'Pol mind melds with Hoshi and they both find out Rigellians were responsible for the kidnapping. Archer orders Enterprise to follow their trail, not bringing Trip along. He transferred to the Columbia, where some of the crew find him difficult to work with. Trip dreams about T'Pol and strangely she seems to have the same dream. Meanwhile Phlox finds himself amongst Klingons. They want him to find a cure for a lethal virus that has the potential to wipe out the entire population of the Empire.

She believes Enterprise is capable of making their own unit, which can disrupt the controls, but a strong telepath is needed. T'Pol and Phlox also discover the pilot was Andorian. The Andorians find out the bio pattern is that of an Aenar, a highly telepathic ice-dwelling subspecies. Archer and Shran descend to the surface of Andoria to visit their compound. Meanwhile Senator Vrax is starting to lose face. Admiral Valdore is convinced things can be still turned around. He plans to destroy Enterprise with two drones, both controlled by their pilot. On Enterprise Trip seems to be distracted at work. He's having trouble adjusting to the new situation with T'Pol.

The Romulan chameleon ship changes its appearance to that of Enterprise and destroys a Rigellian ship. It's becoming more and more clear they are trying to destabilize the region and captain Archer is determined to find it. T'Pol suggests creating a network of 128 ships. Since the Vulcans can't send enough ships, Archer must convince the Tellarites and Andorians to cooperate. It will be hard, especially Shran seems really upset that his partner Talas has been injured. Meanwhile Trip and Reed try to disable the ship from the inside. They are up against the Romulans controlling the ship, who do everything in their power to stop them.

Admiral Maxwell Forrest is having a discussion with ambassador Soval in the Earth embassy on Vulcan about joint-fleet operations. Then a bomb explodes, killing 43 people including Forrest. The Vulcans suggest Syrrannites, a group that has a different interpretation of the teachings of philosopher Surak, may be responsible and evidence supports that theory. DNA of a certain T'Pau is found on a bomb, a well known Syrrannite. The Vulcan chief investigator Stel however demands that Vulcan takes the matter entirely into its own hands. T'Pol gets an unexpected visit from her husband Koss, bringing an artifact from her mother. She is a Syrrannite and is hiding. The artifact shows a map that leads into a dangerous desert known as The Forge, following the same route Surak once did 1800 years ago.

Dr. Soong decides the ship should head to an area called Briar Patch, that will be hard to detect because of radiation. There he wants to let the embryos grow up peacefully. Once again Malik completely disagrees with him. He has taken dangerous pathogens from Cold Station 12 and plans to bombard a Klingon colony, ensuring the Federation will be too busy fighting a war with the Klingons. Malik is very convinced his plan is the best.

The Augments have escaped in a bird of prey with their 'father' Dr. Arik Soong. To find out where they went, Enterprise goes to the location Soong told the Augments were raised. Someone has been left behind. The augments are on their way to Cold Station 12, where the last Augment embryos are kept. They brought incubators to grow them up. Tensions are building however between Augments leader Malik and Soong. He constantly questions the doctor's leadership and disagrees with about every decision made by him. He thinks it is nonsense that Soong orders that no human life should be taken on the station.

He's imprisoned because of his plans to make genetically enhanced humans, augments. Years ago Dr. Arik Soong kidnapped embryos and raised them ten years before he was captured. No one ever knows what happened to them, until now. They're responsible for the attack. Archer takes Soong to stop them and prevent a war.

Back there she finds out Koss, still wants to marry her, even after she rejected her. Phlox finds out opinions of aliens have changed after the Xindi attack. In a bar he's 'asked' to do further drinking in the Vulcan consulate. Archer meets an old friend, Erika Hernandez, who has been appointed captain of the second warp 5 starship, the Columbia. After a not so well briefing with the Vulcans who have some offending questions about the destruction of the Vulcan ship Seleya in the Expanse, Archer decides he needs to take some time off in the mountains. He is joined by Erika.

He wants to make some modifications to the ship, so the time shift will not happen.

Enterprise has arrived on time for the appointment with Xindi Degra. Captain Archer invites them to their ship, while he does his best to convince both Degra and Arboreal Jannar that the destruction of Earth is actually part of the grand scheme of the sphere builders to conquer the universe. While Jannar remains reluctant, Degra seems to be slightly won over. Trip Tucker is having a hard time keeping Enterprise in shape and is also having difficulties with writing a letter to the parents of crewman Taylor, informing of her death. Then trouble arises when out of the blue a Reptilian ship arrives.

Enterprise has finally arrived at Azati Prime, the suspected location of the Xindi weapon, only to find it protected by a very sophisticated security grid. There's just one way to pass it, by using the Insectoid shuttle. Mayweather and Trip visit the planet and find out the weapon is indeed there. To destroy it the shuttle must be send back for a one way trip. Mayweather and Trip are prepared, but Archer decides he should be the one to sacrifice himself. Then he gets a visit from crewman Daniels, the time agent. He tells why the Xindi want to destroy Earth and urges him to reconsider his decision.

The Enterprise finds a Xindi ship crashed on the surface of a planet, and while the team lead by Captain Archer is investigating, they meet an insectoid hatchery in a compartment protected by heavy and reinforced bulkheads. Reed realizes that the air inside is breathable and the group removes the helmet of the breathing apparatuses, but Archer is hit by a sort of substance on his face and sent to the sickbay. After the examination, Dr. Phlox realizes that no damage was caused to Captain Archer, but the crew notes that he becomes obsessed to save the insectoid offspring claiming humanistic reasons. When he orders to give one third of the supply of antimatter to restart the reactor of the Xindi ship to maintain the life support system of the hatchery, T'Pol questions his command and is confined in her cabin. Then Reed, Trip and Dr. Phlox are successively dismissed, and the senior officers decide that only a mutiny can save the Enterprise.

When they realize that the disturbance is longer than expected, Dr. Phlox needs to activate the warp engines to save the crew.

Enterprise has picked up a trail of the tracking device Archer planted on a Reptilian ship. There's a problem however. To get to its location Enterprise must cross a giant and very dense field of anomalies. When something gets wrong and Enterprise gets enveloped in an anomaly, there's some unexpected help. Enterprise is pulled out by an Andorian tractor beam. Commander Shran tells they are here to offer the help the Vulcans refused. Wary of their intentions at first, Captain Archer still agrees on having Andorians make repairs on Enterprise. Soon it becomes clear that the trail leads to a Xindi testing site for the weapon that is to destroy Earth. Archer and Shran make plans to retrieve it.

There seems to be a lot of hatred towards them and they consider them lawless outcasts. Archer makes contact with Bethany, who illegally teaches the Skags in Skag Town.

But today is special; Dr. Phlox is ready to give Archer the treatment he has been developing for ten years, which must be performed on Enterprise.

An away team of Archer, Reed and Hayes confront the lead researcher, Gralik Durr, who was employed by Degra to refine the Kemocite but was never told what it would be used for. When Gralik realizes it was his research that contributed to the 7 million deaths on Earth, he agrees to help Archer prevent further loss of life. Meanwhile, on Enterprise, Phlox and Tucker study the weapon they seized from the Xindi and find an organic component, a life-form serving as the rifle's power cell. Despite T'Pol's objection, Tucker tests the weapon.

Enterprise answers an automated distress call of the Vulcan ship Seleya, lost in the Expanse 9 months ago. Captain Archer, T'Pol, Lt. Reed and Cpl. Hawkins dock Shuttlepod One with Seleya, only to be attacked by the survivors. The Vulcan crew have been reduced to zombie-like drones, permanently brain-damaged by a neurotoxin in the Trellium. Meanwhile, Enterprise navigates an unpredictable asteroid field rich in Trellium, an ore that can be refined to make a vital insulation for traveling the expanse with minimal damage from the anomalies. Tucker and Mayweather land Shuttlepod Two on an asteroid to mine the ore.

One of the slaves, Rajiin, runs from the pimp and begs Archer to help her escape. On board, Rajiin uses her charm to make contact with several crew members.

Enterprise encounters a hyper-giant, the first to be studied by humans. While there, they make first contact with the Vissians, a technologically sophisticated race with three genders. While making quick friends and eagerly learning about the advanced technology, Trip gets curious about the Vissians third gender, known as the Cogenitor, who is crucial in the Vissian reproductive process. While intellectually equal to males and females, the Cogentior are not granted the same liberties, such as freedom of travel, education, or even names. Against the wishes of the Vissians, Trip befriends the Cogenitor and encourages it to defy it's cultural boundaries, teaches it to read and shares Earth's movies with it. The Vissians are made aware of Trip's efforts and are insulted.

Tucker, Reed, and Mayweather navigate a series of labyrinthine underground caves in search of the scientists. Meanwhile, Enterprise lends assistance to a damaged ship fleeing the planet. Doctor Phlox faces an ethical dilemma when one of the refugees of the ship refuses life-saving treatment. The patient, an Antaran, holds a grudge against Phlox stemming from a war between their races that ended 300 years ago and would rather die than be treated by a Denobulan. Phlox defies Archer's direct order to force treatment because it goes against the Deobulan code to yield to "the will of the patient."

During the trial it becomes clear Enterprise had responded to a distress call and rescued 27 people, who were considered traitors by the Klingons and to be picked up by the Klingon captain Duras, now weapons officer. Archer gets the feeling the whole trial is a farce, especially since his advocate tells the magistrate there's no defense. Archer tries to convince Kolos he must do better, while Starfleet, the Vulcan High Command and Enterprise think of other ways to get him released.

A massive ship pulls Enterprise in and disables the engines as well as the weapons. Archer, Trip and Reed start inspecting the alien vessel, but a wispy energy being enters Trip briefly. Back on Enterprise Phlox determines there's nothing wrong with Trip, but he remembers being with his girlfriend Lisa on a beach in Florida. It's not long before the wispy creature takes over Trip again. This time the non-corporeal being tells Archer they're explorers and are interested in how corporeal beings live their lives. He offers everyone on Enterprise to do 'the crossing' and experience what's it like to be non-corporeal. Archer doesn't trust it.

Captain Archer is invited to negotiate a cease fire treaty between the Andorians and the Vulcans at the personal request of the Andorian commander Shran. Archer learns the two species are fighting over a small class D planet that the Vulcans call Paan Mokar and the Andorians Weytahn, in the middle of the frontier. Apparently a truce was negotiated a hundred years ago, but it has recently been broken when commander Shran's strike force landed. The negotiations go well and Archer manages to get one of the Vulcan hostages free in return for his promise that he will bring Vulcan ambassador Soval to do further negotiations. But not all Andorians agree with Shran's positive outlook on Archer's negotiating abilities.

The Enterprise makes way to a planet hosting the Interspecies Medical Exchanges convention. Phlox seeks to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with Vulcan doctors to learn more about a highly-stigmatized neurological affliction only transmitted through Vulcan mind melds. The Vulcans discover T'Pol is afflicted. Believing the stigma to be unethical, T'Pol chooses not to reveal that her participation in the mind meld was not voluntary but the result of physical and mental assault. Meanwhile, Feezal, one of Phlox's wives is aboard to assist Trip in the installation of a sophisticated medical microscope. Trip is unsettled by her sexual advances toward him and even more so that her husband is little more than amused by her seemingly disloyal behavior.

While both Retellians enjoy Enterprise' facilities, Trip tries to repair the pod which contains a beautiful woman. Then suddenly the woman wakes up. She seems to choke and Trip opens the pod, only to be knocked out by the quickly returned Goff. He escapes with his ship from Enterprise, leaving Plinn behind. The woman introduces herself as Kaitaama, heir apparent to the throne of Krios, and she suspects she's being held for ransom. Trip thinks of a plan to escape.

Hoshi and Trip are investigating some abandoned ruins when suddenly two storms charged with polaric energy are moving in their direction. There's no time to move back to Enterprise with the shuttle and they are forced to use the transporter. After apparently everything went well with the device, Hoshi starts feeling weird. She thinks a birthmark has moved a centimeter and when water seems to be dropping through her hands, her mirror image disappears and hardly no one seems to notice her, she really gets worried. Phlox thinks it's only psychological. But when all of the sudden everybody on the ship is looking for her and she sees some aliens planting bombs, she knows there's definitely something wrong.

Enterprise is on its way to investigate a black hole in a trinary star system. Since the system is only reachable by impulse engine, the crew suddenly has time for less important matters. Malcolm starts working on a new security protocol. But T'Pol notices that the crew's behavior is becoming erratic. They seem to be fixed only on the thing they're doing right now and nothing may interfere. Hoshi wants to get a recipe right, Phlox tries to extract a piece of Mayweather's brain after he complained on a mild headache and Archer even yells at his dog while trying to write the preface. Then all the crew pass out and T'Pol must save the ship.

T'Pol gets a message from the Vulcan High Command that a certain Menos has been located. She tells captain Archer he will get a message from Starfleet that Enterprise must help her, but she remains very secretive about her actual mission. Then she decides she wants Archer on the mission, because she trusts him, and tells him the story. Menos apparently was part of a group of 119 surgically altered Vulcan agents assigned to an alien planet. But many didn't want to return. T'Pol was assigned to capture seven of them, but Menos escaped her on Risa. While Archer, T'Pol and Travis take a shuttle pod to pick up the fugitive, the command of the ship falls to Trip. He seems to be having quite some trouble with that.

After receiving three new warp injectors by the generous Kreetassans, Enterprise is in need of warp plasma. The Kreetassans give the crew the location of a merchant colony with a deuterium refinery. But after arriving the colonists seem to be very reluctant to trade at all. Enterprise is only able to purchase 200 liters for a ridiculous price and must repair two pumps at the colony. Captain Archer and the crew are beginning to wonder what's going on. The deuterium should have been very profitable, but there's poverty all around. Then Enterprise detects the arrival of a Klingon cruiser.

After the encounter with the Romulan minefield, Enterprise is severely damaged. Engineer Trip fears the worst. With the ship only capable of warp 2.5, traveling back to Jupiter will take practically forever and he doesn't have the necessary components to make the repairs himself. Captain Archer decides to send out a distress call and it isn't long before he gets a response from the Tellarites. They give the coordinates of a strange repair station. Upon approaching Enterprise is scanned. The atmosphere and the docking port are automatically changed to Enterprise' specs. The station is able to repair Enterprise in only 36 hours. The price, only 200 liters of plasma, seems rather low for all the work. Too low?

The Enterprise stumbles into an area of space containing cloaked mines. When a malfunctioning, active mine attaches itself to a critical area of the ship's hull, Lieutenant Reed dons an EV suit and attempts to disarm it. Complications arise when the mine's leg penetrates Reed's leg, pinning him to the hull. Captian Archer must find a way to get rid of the mine and save Reed before the Romulans run out of patience.

Enterprise discovers a mining colony of the Paraagans. The crew gets an invitation for a meeting on the surface and a shuttle pod tries to break through the atmosphere. All of the sudden just under the shuttle a giant explosion begins and scorches the earth beneath. All 3600 colonists are reported dead. After examination Enterprise finds out plasma leaking from the pod's vents ignited tetrazine in the atmosphere. Lieutenant Reed however ensures he closed the plasma vents before the shuttle went of. After conversations with admiral Forrest of Starfleet Command, captain Archer learns Enterprise' mission is canceled and they must return home, not to return to space for another ten or twenty years. When the ship has altered course, crewman Daniels, a time traveler, pays a visit to captain Archer.

But as their ship leaves an alien gel like creature manages to crawl aboard. The creature is growing and growing and shows rather hostile tendencies as it encapsulates five crew members, including captain Archer and commander Tucker. T'Pol, Hoshi and Reed have to come up with a solution quickly. The lives of the five are at stake as the creature begins a symbiotic relationship that in time can't be reversed.

Archer and Mayweather are held prisoner because of trespassing, but Tandaran colonel Grat assures their release will only be a formality. While captain Archer is suspicious of the Suliban at first, he soon finds out they're innocent and makes plan to release them. Meanwhile Grat discovers evidence of Enterprise' earlier encounters with the Cabal.

He tells he found an apparently abandoned ship and tried to empty it to make a fortune. But according to D'Marr the ship is haunted and he was forced to leave. Enterprise starts looking for the ship anyway. Scans show there really aren't any bio-signs, but after coming on board the crew soon gets the feeling they are not alone.

Lieutenant Reed discovers a rogue planet, which has broken out of orbit and therefore is devoid of any light. Life is still possible in some places because heat is bubbling up from under the surface, but T'Pol doesn't detect any humanoid life. Further scans however give a strange energy reading which seems to be coming from a ship on the surface. After the crew has landed, they encounter the Eska. The Eska come from another planet and they say they are hunting for the drayjin, an animal considered a delicacy. When captain Jonathan Archer tries to sleep on the planet, he hears a voice calling him by his name. A human female is wandering in the forest. Somehow he seems to know her.

Phlox is writing a letter to a human colleague on Denobula. He has a lot to write about; he's amazed by the affection crewman Cutler is showing for him and he must save an entire race. Enterprise picked up a pod with a Valakian who tells his race is suffering from a deathly epidemic. Phlox tries to find a cure and finds out Valakia is actually inhabited by two races. The Menk are a more primitive race and hard workers. Since they appear to be resistant to the disease, Phlox thinks investigating them may provide the answer. By doing so, he discovers something about the Menk that makes him reconsider curing the disease

The crew of Enterprise is installing a subspace amplifier when an unidentified ship drops out of warp. No contact is made and the ship disappears as suddenly as it came. But the mystery ship returns and this time it's a lot more hostile; Enterprise is severely damaged. Archer is sick of being constantly left at the mercy of alien ships. Despite the objection of Reed and Tucker who think they can do it themselves, he orders Enterprise to return to Jupiter station to install phase cannons. Meanwhile Hoshi must find out the favorite food of Reed. Archer wants to surprise him on his birthday party.

A group of aliens is on their way to watch the Great Plume of Agosoria, a neutron blast from a protostar that happens every 11 years. Always eager to make first contact Archer invites them to visit Enterprise. When Enterprise is hit by a plasma storm, a miracle happens when a cascade running directly into the warp drive is stopped. Someone disconnected a panel, but who? Suddenly crewman Daniels tells Archer a Suliban entered the ship and that he has come from the future to capture him.

Admiral Forrest orders Enterprise to turn back to answer a distress call from the cargo freighter Fortunate. They have been attacked by Nausicaan pirates. Upon entering the vessel, captain Archer learns first officer Matthew Ryan has taken over since the captain was injured in the attack. He seems very reluctant to accept any help however and Archer must insist before Ryan agrees on Phlox examining the captain and engineers making repairs. Ryan seems to hide something and T'Pol will soon find out as she detects an alien life form.

Enterprise encounters an unusually large comet and captain Archer orders the crew to follow the phenomenon for a couple of days. T'Pol finds out the comet's surface contains eisilium, a very rare element that even Vulcan scientists haven't yet closely examined. Just when Reed and Mayweather are sent to drill to retrieve some of it, the Ti'Mur, a Vulcan ship arrives. Vanik, its captain, tells they're interested in human's curiosity about the comet, but captain Archer doesn't trust it. Especially not after Tucker discovers a coded message has been sent to T'Pol from the Ti'Mur.

Archer, Tucker and T'Pol pay a visit to the sanctuary of P'Jem. The sanctuary is more than 3000 years old and used for the practice of kolinahr, the Vulcan method of purging emotions. P'Jem doesn't look pristine however. The door seems smashed and inside ornaments are either broken or displaced. It isn't long before they find out the place has been taken over by Andorians, blue humanoids that aren't particularly on friendly terms with the Vulcans. They suspect the sanctuary of P'Jem to be a disguise for a long range sensor array used for spying. Archer and Trip are suspected of collaborating with the Vulcans and put under arrest.

Over 70 years ago Terra Nova was chosen to experiment with colonization outside Earth's solar system and a ship was sent on a nine year journey. The new colony was a success, but when Earth announced 200 more colonists were to be sent, Terra Nova angrily refused. After a while all contact was lost and the crew of Enterprise is anxious to find out what happened. But all they find on the planet's surface is a deserted town and quite some radiation. Then Reed sees an alien flee into a cavern. Archer decides to follow him.

Enterprise is encountering all different kinds of minor malfunctions. When the crew find out the problem lies with the plasma exhaust, they discover they have a stowaway. The Xyrillians have a problem with their warp drive and by using Enterprise' warp drive they tried to recharge their teraphasic coils. Trip is sent to help fix their engine and meets up with Ah'len, one of their engineers. The two seem to be getting along very well. Trip is able to make repairs, but shortly after the Xyrillians left, he notices a strange bulging on his arm.

Enterprise is in a region of space with no inhabited worlds and so there's not much exploring to do. Lieutenant Reed is trying to align the targeting scanners with ensign Mayweather and doctor Phlox is taking care of a slug that Ensign Hoshi took aboard, but isn't faring too well. Then Enterprise stumbles upon a ship adrift in space. T'Pol and captain Archer discuss if the crew should enter the ship to provide assistance if needed, but Archer and mankind's curiosity wins. The captain decides to take Reed and Hoshi with him. Hoshi however is having trouble adjusting to the life on the ship. Earlier she complained about her quarters not being on the port side and this time she tells Archer that she'd rather help from him the bridge because she's claustrophobic.

She tells Klaang was carrying an important message to Kronos that must prevent a breakout of civil war in the Klingon Empire. But another group of Suliban attack and before dying she urges Archer to find Klaang. The four humans escape from the planet, but Archer gets wounded in the leg. He loses consciousness and T'Pol announces she is taking command of Enterprise. To everybody's surprise she modifies the sensors so that Enterprise can track the ship that captured Klaang.

In 2151, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, a farmer shoots the Klingon Klaang with his plasma rifle after the explosion of a methane store in his farm and the Klingon is sent to the Starfleet Hospital. The Vulcan ambassador Soval proposes to unplug the life support system and bring the corpse of Klaang to his warrior empire in planet Kronos with honor. However, Captain Jonathan Archer proposes to go with the Enterprise in her first voyage and bring back Klaang alive to his home planet. Jonathan invites Ensign Hoshi Sato and Dr. Phlox, who is treating Klaang, to complete his crew, and the Vulcan Sub-Commander T'Pol is assigned to participate in the dangerous first mission of Enterprise. When the equipment of the starship is shut-down, Klaang is kidnapped by Sulibans after a shooting in the hospital. After the autopsy of the Suliban killed in the shooting, Captain Archer is informed by Dr. Phlox that the alien was actually a mutant, altered in a sophisticated genetic engineering process. T'Pol modifies the sensors of the Enterprise to track the Suliban spacecraft until she reaches planet Riger X. They investigate and disclose that Klaang was a courier, bringing an important message about the Temporal Cold War from the Suliban Sarin to the leaders of the Klingons in Kronos.
