Storyline

In 1945, the Marines attack twelve thousand Japaneses protecting the twenty square kilometers of the sacred Iwo Jima island in a very violent battle. When they reach the Mount Suribachi and six soldiers raise their flag on the top, the picture become a symbol in a post Great Depression America. "Flags of Our Fathers" is a 2006 American war film directed, co-produced and scored by Clint Eastwood and written by William Broyles, Jr. and Paul Haggis. February 1945. Even as victory in Europe was finally within reach, the war in the Pacific raged on. One of the most crucial and bloodiest battles of the war was the struggle for the island of Iwo Jima, which culminated with what would become one of the most iconic images in history: five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi. "Flags of Our Fathers" is based on the book of the same name written by James Bradley and Ron Powers about the Battle of Iwo Jima, the six men who were involved in raising the flag on Iwo Jima, and the aftereffects of that event on their lives. Essay on the lies and lives during war11 November 2011

This film pairs with Iwo Jima and the two should be seen as close together as possible. An insight into how war becomes (and needs) propaganda. Relevant for WW2 and relevant for the perpetual wars of 2001 onwards.
