Storyline

A two-segment look at the effect of the military mindset and war itself on Vietnam era Marines. The first half follows a group of recruits in basic training under the command of the punishing Sgt. Hartman. The second half shows one of those recruits, Joker, covering the war as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes, focusing on the Tet offensive.

Best war movie ever made! First part is basic training and how hard it can be for certain people. Then off to Vietnam and the horror of war. Excellent accompanying music with a great cast of characters.

This ranks right up there with Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and Patton as my favorite war films. Stanley Kubrick\'s slow and methodical means of storytelling create a chillingly gripping look at the Vietnam War. This is a must see for any war film fan, or any film fan in general!

Quite possibly the best Marine movie ever made. I served in the USMC and the scenes with Private Pile going over the deep-end totally reminded me of a few guys I served with.
