After being sent away by Judge Turpin, Sweeney Todd a.k.a Benjamin Barker returns to London with the help of a sailor, Anthony Hope. He opens a barber shop above Mrs. Lovett's Meat Pie Shop, where she sells "the worst pies in London." With the help of Mrs. Lovett, Todd means to rid London of the corrupt aristocracy, and hopes to be reunited with his daughter, Johanna, who is now Judge Turpin's ward.

The musical is based on 1973 play Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Christopher Bond. After hard years in exile for a crime he didn't commit, Benjamin Barker, now Sweeney Todd, returns to London to find his wife dead and his daughter in the hands of the evil Judge Turpin. In his anger, Sweeney goes on a murderous rampage on all London. With the help of Mrs. Lovett, he opens a barber shop in which he lures his victims with a charming smile before casually ending their lives with a flick of his razor across their necks. But not one man nor ten thousand men killed can satisfy Sweeney's lust for vengeance on those who've caused his years of pain. «Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street» opened on Broadway at the Uris Theatre on March 1, 1979 and ran for 557 performances. Interesting twist on an old story10 July 2011

This movie is nothing if not unusual, though it won\'t be to everyone\'s taste (like the pies in the story). Fine performances from a strong cast; Depp, Bonham Carter, and Rickman shine through as usual.

I really like this movie. its a bit intense and the blood and gore intensive, but it\'s a well acted musical. johnny depp is great here. who knew he could sing? i especially like the twist of events around the ending, i was really shocked. tim burton did great.

Johnny Depp is a master at everything but I couldn't take this movie and had to turn it off part way through. I really cant take how he kills so joyfully and as if its not a person... I cant look any more in a long run... hahaha... and the pie, how people eat them... yucky... Me and my friends lough at each other because all of us got a hard time watching it! hahaha
