Immediately following Gail being voted off the ranch after the latest weigh-in, Alison brings all the contestants together to tell them the deal made to brother and sister Adrian and Daphne, who never made it on to the ranch on the initial show of the season: that if they lost more than a combined 50 pounds during this first month at home, they would earn a place on the ranch. Some of the existing contestants welcome the potential of new contestants, while others see it as being an injustice. Adrian and Daphne also learn that if they make it on to the ranch, they will be split as were all the other couples, and that they will receive immunity from elimination on their first week. The week's team challenge is a race of bouncing medicine balls off a trampoline which must be caught in a net by their teammates. The award for the winning team is the ability to choose one contestant from each team whose weight will not count at this week's weigh-in. During the week, obvious cracks appear on both teams, which the respective trainers try to repair. The black team's crack is between Chris on one side, and Jeremy and Chism on the other, the latter two who voted to eliminate Chris during the latest post-weigh-in vote. The animosity during the week extends to this week's elimination vote.

Lauren, last week's eliminated contestant, and Joe, who quit during mid-week last week, are not the only contestants who go home this week as Buddy goes home temporarily to support his wife as she gives birth. Buddy is scheduled to return by week's end, with his weight still counting for his team. The remaining contestants learn that their team challenge has what they consider an important advantage for their weight loss journey: sole access to the gym for the week, with the losing team relegated to working out elsewhere. The challenge is an obstacle course with five health related questions for each team, with each wrong answer resulting in the team needing to overcome an obstacle on the course. During the week, both Bob and Dolvett come across difficult team members. The trainers try to overcome those team members' issues. However, another person whose comment "I want to go home" is another scare for his/her team, and may be his/her death knell for staying if that person decides to stay and if that team loses the week's weigh-in. Meanwhile, Dolvett heads to Chicago to give at-home contestants Adrian and Daphne a tool to monitor their progress.

Mike's elimination from the ranch following the latest weigh-in hits half-brother Joe especially hard, he who makes an important decision which is a Biggest Loser first. Joe's decision doesn't sit well with his teammates or his trainer, Bob. Alison issues the first temptation challenge of the season - a Chinese food buffet - with the winning person gaining a two pound advantage at the next weigh-in which he or she can allocate as decided just before the weigh-in, and the ability to allocate a one-on-one match-up at the weigh-in. One contestant from each team will weigh off against one person on the opposing team, with one point awarded for each winning face-off. The winning team will be the one with the most points, and not necessarily with the greatest percentage of weight loss as a team. If the teams are tied at the end of the temptation challenge, each contestant will face-off against their loved one on the opposing team. Both Bob and Dolvett use the face-off mentality to their advantage in firing up their team members, who they face off in mini-challenges in the workouts. One of those mini-challenges is especially competitive, which leads to a rematch during the last chance workout. The reward challenge is a water relay, the water used to melt a block of ice which contains an enclosed package which names the reward for the winning team. Many on the winning team end up giving their reward away to another who they feel would benefit from it more. The weigh-in ends up being as competitive as the mini-challenges during the workouts. And Bob travels to Chicago to assist Adrian and Daphne with a workout.

Falling on the sword for his team, Ben is the first eliminated player of the season, leaving the black team down a contestant. Alison informs both teams that the person with the highest percentage of weight loss on this week's winning team will be able to provide immunity from elimination for one player on the opposing team. Everyone is gearing for this achievement as they will provide that immunity to their loved one on the opposing team. Alison also requests two volunteer leaders from each team without telling them what they will be required to do. It ends up being a gambling game, where the leaders bid on what percentage of weight they think they will lose this week, with the team making the final bid gaining a five pound weight advantage at the weigh-in if they make that weight goal. If they fail to make that weight goal, the opposing team wins a five pound advantage at the weigh-in. The final bid ends up surprising both teams, including the trainers, which leads to the two bidders having potential targets on their backs for elimination if they fail to make the weight loss goal. That weight loss goal stands heavy on the bidding team's mind throughout the week. That bid also results in a sometimes not so friendly competition between the teams, each accusing the other of childish behavior. This feud extends to the trainers, who each have problem team members with regard to focus during the workouts. Despite the trainers wanting to foster a unified team mentality, a major crack forms on the red team. The first team challenge of the season is truly a team effort in strength, endurance and visual puzzle solving ability, with each person on the winning team earning the Biggest Loser meal plan for six months after they go home. The result of the post weigh-in elimination vote turns out to be an inevitability after the first couple of votes and resulting discussion, which devolves into a finger pointing yelling session. Meanwhile, Dr. Huizenga speaks to half brothers Mike and Joe, perhaps the two unhealthiest people on the ranch, about their genetic disposition toward disease and their unrealistic mentality toward their respective lifestyles. And nutritionist Rachel Beller teaches the contestants how to go food shopping properly. She also visits Adrian and Daphne in Chicago to assist in their at-home food planning.

Alison greets the twenty season 13 contestants outside the gates of the ranch, the contestants who are in couples (siblings, parents and children, spouses, friends, etc.). They learn that the theme for this season is "no excuses". They also learn that one couple will not make it through the gates of the ranch, they who are last place couple in a three phase challenge, where the four leading couples move on after the first phase, an additional four after the second phase, and the final couple after the third phase. However, the losing couple is provided some incentive to do well in their weight loss journey at home. The eighteen contestants who proceed through the gates of the ranch then meet the two trainers for the season - Bob and Dolvett - with who they are provided a two hour training session before the contestants choose with which trainer they want to train. The contestants will ultimately be in two teams of nine. At the end of the two hour session, which ends up being a difficult process for many, the contestants learn the rules of the selection process, which does not sit well with many of them. At the first last chance workout, the competition heats up not only between the contestants on the two teams, but also between the trainers as Dolvett notices the work ethic of his team compared to Bob's. Dolvett is determined that his team will not to lose to Bob's at the inaugural weigh-in as his team did so often in season 12.

Sunny, the latest eliminated contestant, is not the only one going home, as life on the ranch has also finished for the four remaining contestants. Although all four go home to hero's welcomes and deal with how they will handle life off the ranch, Vinnie in particular deals with a painful part of his past, and makes an important decision about his future. Each of those four also receives not only a video visit from their trainer, but a real life visit from them as well, plus a video visit from an important person from their past who will hopefully be a reminder to keep them on their new life path. But their life at home is short lived as the four, plus all the eleven eliminated contestants are finally at the stage of competing in the Biggest Loser marathon. Alison tells them that the winner will not only be an automatic finalist, but that the top five finishers will also receive cash prizes, the winner receiving $25,000. One contestant opts out of the race due to medical reasons. The remaining fourteen are all determined to finish the race, but Dr. Huizenga may have a different opinion for a few based on his diagnosis for their long term healthy life. Regardless of the race outcome, the final four (or three if the marathon winner is one of the four) enter into the week's weigh-in to determine the finalists, who are automatically the ones with the highest percentage of weight loss.

After Bonnie's eviction from the campus after the latest weigh-in, the remaining six contestants enter into Thanksgiving week. Their temptation challenge has one hundred plates of Thanksgiving types of food in front of them, each plate with an unknown value from one to one hundred. In five minutes, each contestant is allowed to eat as many plates of food as he/she wants. The contestants who draw the lowest three numbers have their choice of the three prizes available (with one contestant conceivably winning all three prizes): $500 for each pound lost at this week's weigh-in, a $25,000 home gym, and a three pound advantage at this week's weigh-in. The latter is seen as almost a guarantee of immunity. The contestants get a Thanksgiving dinner of another sort: a healthier version cooked for them by their trainers. At dinner, Bob opens up about his own family for the first time. Much of the week's focus is on the one with that three pound advantage, and John, for who some have dire predictions for his post-Biggest Loser life. As the only red team member left standing, John realizes that not only is his Biggest Loser life on the line, but Dolvett's is as well. The reward challenge - a one mile climb on Jacob's ladder - results in prizes for the top three finishers: a one pound advantage and assignment of a one pound disadvantage to another contestant, a 6 month supply of the Biggest Loser meal plan and assignment of that same prize to an eliminated contestant, and $2,500 cash prize for that contestant and another contestant of that winner's choice. The winner of the one pound draws ire from the other contestants which intensifies during the post weigh-in vote.

Alliances are perceived to be breaking as Joe is voted off the ranch after the latest weigh-in. Those alliances take on new meaning for the remaining seven as they move into competing as singles, with this week being the first for the season with a yellow line. The challenge for the week is modeled on a pentathlon, with each of the five events garnering the contestants scores of up to 7 for each event. Events test athletic prowess (whether it be in the form of speed, strength, agility and/or balance), knowledge or pure luck. The contestant with the highest score by the end of the fifth event receives immunity for the week. The contestant with the lowest score receives a one pound disadvantage at the weigh-in. With those events where strategy comes into play, some contestants remain true to their alliances while others play solely for their own benefit. Dolvett uses the week to bond with the two he is training, most specifically John who he wants to open up more both to himself and to his training methods. Bob remarks on a Biggest Loser First, where the last chance workout for the week is not true to its name as the the last event for the pentathlon, an athletic one, occurs after the workout. Courtney being voted off the ranch after the latest weigh-in brings the remaining ten contestants into "all-for-one" Halloween week. They learn that they will be competing as one group, all with common goals. They will be aiming for a 100 pound total weight loss goal, which if met will mean that no one will be eliminated after the weigh-in. If they don't reach that goal, one person will be voted off, with only the biggest loser of the week having immunity. Their week long temptation challenge has a ten pound bowlful of candy in the middle of their kitchen. For every pound of candy they eat collectively, they will receive a one pound advantage at the weigh-in. And the team challenge has them collecting apples hidden throughout a maze over a ten minute time period. They will receive additional weight advantages at the weigh-in if they collect certain weight amounts of apples, but if any contestant is in the maze at the ten minute time limit, they will have a weight disadvantage at the weigh-in. Most of the trainers and contestants see this week as the first real opportunity to get to know everyone on the ranch, and to experience working out with different people. There is one, however, who makes no bones about the fact of missing their regular trainer. And a romance blossoms on the ranch between two of the contestants. Although most are happy for them, one trainer also cautions them on not losing focus on the healthier lifestyle goal.

After the latest weigh-in when Coach Mike was voted off campus, the blue team is left with only two contestants. A game of Plinko - a game of total chance - provides one contestant a multitude of rewards. One, the contestant gets to go home for the week. Two, their trainer will go with them. And three, they receive immunity from elimination for this week. But these rewards comes with much pressure as that winner will be the only person from his/her team whose weight will count for their team. Many of the contestants voice their concern about possibly winning this reward, but the contestant who does ultimately win is excited, which is the exact opposite feeling of their trainer, who doesn't want that person to feel like this week will be a vacation, especially as their teammates are totally relying on them. The departure of that contestant and the trainer brings about a different vibe on the ranch. Cracks start to appear in all three teams, two based on relationships with the trainer, and the third based on not having the trainer around to be the team's glue. The team challenge - whose goal is to fill a glass cylinder with liquid the fastest - is one of speed, endurance and balance. Each winning team member gets to send one person of their choice for a two week stay at the Biggest Loser Resort. The weigh-in brings back the contestant and the trainer from their week away, with that contestant the last to step on the scale. There is much anticipation if that trip home was a boon or a burden.

There are fourteen contestants remaining after Debbie is voted off the campus after the first weigh-in. The fourteen return somewhat to the real world in that for the next week, they will only have access as a team to the gym and their trainer at one of three two-hour prescribed times per day: early morning, midday and late night. The winning team of a temptation challenge - eating the most donuts - will assign the gym times for all three teams. They find that training at a specific time not only affects them, but also their trainers, who have different energies at different times of the day. Beyond individual issues of training, one team faces an internal back stabbing issue. Each contestant with his/her trainer meets with Dr. Huizenga, who gives them the bad news about their health. One of the youngest, who has previously resisted visiting a doctor if only in the want not to know, has one of the worst results. The teams compete in a reward challenge - maneuvering a ball through a maze using only their body weight - with the winning team receiving a two pound advantage at the weigh-in, and the second place team receiving a one pound advantage. At each of the challenges and the weigh-in, the black team is the one which the others are gunning for as the black team has thus far established itself as the leading team.

Open with the final four and some video comparisons of where they are now compared to when they arrived at the ranch 20 weeks ago. We then see them all talking about making the final four. Alison says this is the week they must prepare for the "final step."Olivia and Hannah talk about being half of the final four. They talk about making sure to enjoy the final moments.The final four come into the gym for the first time this week. Bob and Jillian talk about the sisters still being around and Jay's ability to avoid elimination. We see their first workout of the week. Bob talks to Olivia about everything coming to an end. He calls her "an amazing woman." Bob wants Jay to continue writing goal weights on his arm as he works towards the finale. Jay is thinking about 180 for the finale. Bob wants to make sure Irene finishes everything she started. She talks about being a little worried about returning to her life.Alison greets the final four outside the gym. She tells them a company will give $5,000 for the person who can make the best turkey burger recipe according to a group of elementary school kids. Irene's is a cheeseburger with turkey bacon; Olivia's idea involves yogurt with green food coloring; Hannah's is a really simple cheese idea; Jay builds a volcano of ketchup and cheese atop the burger. The kids hate Olivia and Irene's ideas. Ultimately Jay edges out Hannah for the challenge win.Alison greets the final four on a golf course. They bring out Season 10 winner Patrick who tells them this will be the annual weight-back-on challenge. Every contestant hast to carry around the weight they've lost during the season. They will start with a golf bag filled with a flagsticks weighing as much as they did five months ago. Each stick weighs as much as lost during each week and they will place the clubs. They'll be carrying: 98 pounds for Hannah, 154 for Jay, 108 for Irene and 108 for Olivia. The winner gets a $15,000 home gym.At the beginning both Olivia and Jay experience minor medical issues with the weight. Olivia gets help from a trainer for back spasms. Jay is having trouble staying upright on the first few holes. But ultimately everyone finishes, with Hannah winning by a pretty decent margin.Time for the last Last Chance workout. Hannah is looking forward to one last time with the trainers. Bob assures her that she is no longer the victim she was when she first arrived. Olivia thinks she can do anything she can put her mind to. Irene has been able to step back and evaluate her progress.The final weigh-in on the ranch begins. Hannah talks about the dream of being the first sister-duo to reach the finals. As always, the top two tonight will automatically reach the finals, while the others will face a vote from viewers to see who gets the third and final spot. The third finalist will not be revealed until the finale next week.Irene is on the scale first. She talks about how difficult it is to lose weight as she gets smaller. She has lost three pounds this past week, dropping down to 144. She says she doesn't care about the number because she had such a great week.Up next is Jay, who thinks he needs a "good number" this week. He's down a relatively modest four pounds (to 242) and isn't very happy. His percentage places him in second so far, about four-tenths of a percent behind Irene.Olivia takes the scale next. To be above the yellow line and guarantee a spot in the final-3 she needs to have lost at least four pounds. She nails it right on the number, losing four pounds and dropping to 149. She pumps her arms in the air in joy and Hannah yells, "I knew it." Olivia is emotional about finishing what she started. Bob talks about how proud he is of her.This means that Jay will be in the bottom-2, either with Irene or Hannah. Hannah takes the stage with a chance to be half of the first-ever sisters in the final. It is the final weigh-in on campus this season. Hannah needs to have lost at least four pounds to join Olivia above the yellow line and guarantee a spot in the finals. Like her sister Hannah hits the number exactly on the nose, losing four pounds exactly (to 146). She screams "yeah" and Olivia runs to join her on the stage. Alison calls Hannah "special," a sentiment echoed by Bob and Jillian. Olivia says she could never have done this without her. She has now lost 102 pounds on the show, the third woman to do so this season. Irene finishes as the biggest loser while at the ranch, but will have to complete with Jay for the final spot.Cut to "24 Hours Later," as we see the contestants go home to meet family and friends -- Olivia to New York City, Irene to Portland, Jay to West Orange, New Jersey and Hannah to Nashville. All four are nervous about various components of the homecoming.All four are greeted with screams of joy from their homecoming gatherings. Olivia's husband said he couldn't believe his eyes. Jays wife calls him a "brand new Jay." All four detail their exact weight loss while at the ranch. Jay advises others in their same predicament to seek help. Irene says she didn't realize how strong she was until this point. Olivia calls this day one of the best of her life.All four of them get a video in the mail. Each has interviews with them when they first started their journey and highlights from throughout the season.Irene's includes her mother being voted off early and a number of key weigh-ins. Afterwards she talks about how good she feels. Hannah's video starts with her talking about wanting to have a family and feeling incapable of deserving love. We also see her battle her back injuries and play volleyball with her father. After the video she talks about how much has changed.Jay's video begins with him arriving on the show feeling for the first time like he isn't invincible. He achieves several huge weight-losses on the scale and becomes a force in the gym. Jay calls the video "amazing." Olivia and her husband watch her video. She also talked at the beginning of the season about wanting to have kids. We see the reunion with her husband during Makeover Week and the week she sang on the scale.After Alison flashes back to some of the past champions, she tells us it is up to us to decide between Irene and Jay as to who will battle the sisters for the $250,000 first prize. Both Irene and Jay asks for our vote in very modest language.

Open with everyone heading home from New Zealand. Austin talks about how tough it was to lose his father the week before. He's feeling the pressure of having to do everything on his own. Irene is feeling the pressure of thus far being the biggest loser on the show.Alison pops over to the ranch and tells the guys this will be Favorites Week. Hannah talks about several old contestants she'd like to see.When they get to the gym they are greeted by Season 5 winner Ali Vincent, the first female ever to win Biggest Loser. She's written a book and travels the country giving motivational speeches. Also there is Sam Poueu from Season 9. He's a personal trainer at the Biggest Loser resort and is planning his wedding with fellow former contestant Steph. Sam emphasizes that the real challenge begins after they leave Biggest Loser. Rulon says he can relate to Sam, who ended up leaving the show early when he reached his goal weight. Rulon is only 15 pounds from his goal weight.Ali and Sam lead the guys in a workout. They start with a 5K and then move into some circuit training.Ali gives everybody some cooking tips. She shows them a side dish she uses quite a bit. Sam talks about the importance of what you eat right after a workout. He mentions the importance of mayo in his culture and suggests hummus as a replacement.Everybody meets Alison at a race track that was the site of a famous car-pulling challenge in Season 7. NACAR driver Clint Bowyer shows up and helps her introduce Tara from Season 7. Tara was notorious for winning challenges and talks about her charity work since leaving the show. Tara will be joining them for today's challenge, which consists of each of them being harnessed to a car. First person to pull their car a half-mile wins $5,000, their face on a cereal box and a trip to a NASCAR race.The race begins and not surprisingly Rulon is off to a fast start. But Tara manages to keep right with him, as Austin sneaks into third. Tara makes a push near the end and ends up beating Rulon in a photo finish. The bumper of her car just edges Rulon's car. Tara says she's going to donate the money to her foundation.Last chance workout time. Bob puts everybody puts a grueling treadmill training session. Rulon talks about feeling confident he can handle the challenges he'll face when he goes home. Cara thinks Rulon might be tired of competing and thinks that could be a good thing.Jillian and Irene have a one-on-one. Jillian thinks she needs to be able to accept everything she's accomplished thus far. She doesn't think her 98 pounds of weight lost so far has sunken in. This leads to a tearful statement from Irene that she is starting to see how strong she is.Before the weigh-in Rulon asks to speak to everybody. He steps on the scale and says he's asking to leave the show for "personal reasons." He gives no other explanation and Alison tells him good luck before he leaves. Rulon tells us in an interview that "there are things that need be addressed back home." He gives a few hugs and walks out the back. Bob thinks means the season is now "anybody's game."This changes nothing about the weigh-in and Irene is first to take the scale. She has lost three pounds (to 154), meaning she's the first women this season to lose 100 pounds. She is all smiles. Kaylee is next and has gained two pounds (to 165). She covers her face and looks confused. She's says she's "at a loss."Austin is next and needs to have lost at least five pounds to be safe. He's in good shape, dropping seven pounds (to 243). He tells Alison it was a hard week. Olivia is next and she needs to have lost at least four pounds to be above the yellow line. She's down six pounds (to 162) and is ecstatic. She calls it "amazing" and Alison says she's now down 99 pounds.Jay is next. He needs to have lost at least six pounds to be safe. He also comes through, dropping seven pounds (to 258). This means Kaylee is definitely below the yellow line. Either Irene or Hannah will join her. Hannah needs to have lost at least four pounds. She also hits her mark, having lost five pounds (to 156). She looks relieved.Hannah is up first to vote. She votes for Kaylee based on a bond with Irene. Austin says his friendship with Kaylee is too strong and he casts his vote for Irene. Olivia also votes for Kaylee. That second vote is enough to eliminate Kaylee since she would lose a tiebreaker.In the at-home vignette Kaylee says she's figured out why her weight was going up and down. We see that she is dating Vance, one of the guys who showed up in Week 13 to earn a spot on the show.

Open in Queenstown, New Zealand with the contestants and trainers meeting Alison on the beach. This week the series will convert to singles competition. We get a discussion of the emotions related to returning to the first color they wore on the show. All trainers will be working with all the contestants and a parachute lands with Brett.This week the trainers will be taken contestants on special adventures. Cara picks Hannah and Kaylee to attempt the world's highest cliff jump. The jump is from 358 feet up and jumpers reach 93mph. A reluctant Cara is first to jump and all three get something from the experience.At the week's first workout there is a lot of discussion of the disappointing weigh-in everybody had last week. Brett's focusing on Kaylee. Olivia is a little grouchy at Rulon for writing her name down last week even when Moses asked everyone to send him home.Hannah tells Cara she's worried about going home to what she's thinks is a bad support system. She doesn't want to be the "same old Hannah."Alison tells the gang about their next challenge. They will river board half a mile down a river. The winner wins both a helicopter tour of Milford Sound and individual immunity. For some reason at that point Alison bungee jumps.The temperature of the water causes the contestants trouble, as does the current of the river. Olivia gets out to a huge lead while Austin (who can't swim) is in last. Irene begins having cramping problems and gets passed by Kaylee and Rulon and falls to fourth. Kaylee pushes her near the end but ultimately Olivia hangs on for the win.Olivia brings Hannah on the trip. The two share thoughts on how far they've come and both are emotional.Brett talks to Austin and Jay about getting a second chance, something with which Jay can obviously relate. Jay says he like the sense of responsibility that comes with being alone this week. Kaylee talks about believing in herself without her dad around.Bob thinks he's hearing too many people say they are tired. Hannah talks about being mentally fatigued.Time for the weigh-in: Alison reviews the week and reminds us that the two players below the yellow line will be voted on. The immune Olivia is on the scale first and comes in at 168, down four pounds for the week.Jay is the first at-risk contestant on the scale. He comes in at 265, down five pounds from the previous week. He is relieved and feels this is a turning point. Up next is Irene. She's lost four pounds (to 157) and is pleasantly surprised. Rulon is next, needing to have lost at least eight pounds to beat first-place Irene and be safe. He's lost ten pounds (to 301) and is in first overall. Bob calls him a "force in this house."Next on the scale is Austin. To beat Irene and be safe he needs to have lost at least seven pounds. He's down just five (to 250), but doesn't seem all that worried about it given the surroundings. That means Irene is now safe. Ken takes the scale needing to have lost at least five pounds to be safe. He's comes up just short, losing four pounds (to 243). He isn't happy. With two people left to weigh-in Austin is now safe this weekHannah is up next. She needs to have lost at least four pounds to be safe. She comes up one pound shy, losing three pounds (to 161) and immediately starts to cry. She says she's done everything she can do each week. Hannah's percentage means Jay is definitely safe and Ken will definitely be below the yellow line.It will either be Hannah or Kaylee facing elimination with Ken this week. Kaylee (who Alison reminds us has lost two pounds combined in the last five weigh-ins) needs to have lost at least four pounds. She does it, dropping five pounds (to 163). She is emotional and says she needed to have her father away to stand on her own feet. This means Ken and Hannah will be voted on this week.Alison leaves the two contestants make their case. Ken says his "destiny" is to fight and talks about feeling accepted by a group for the first time in his life. He is very emotional. Hannah talks about improving her self-image and says she needs more help. Kaylee says it will be a particularly tough decision for her. She related to Hannah but has been friends with Ken.Obviously Austin casts his vote for Hannah and Olivia votes for Ken. Irene says Hannah is "like my sister" and votes for Ken. Kaylee votes for Hannah, saying she has confidence she'll finish anything she starts. Jay also thinks Hannah has what it takes to be successful but since Hannah helps bring him back he votes for Ken. That is three votes for Ken, and since he had the lower weight loss this week we don't need to hear from Rulon.In the at-home vignette we see that Ken has lost another five pounds since leaving the show.

After the latest weigh-in when Courtney was automatically evicted from the ranch (which also meant that with the demise of the red team, Brett was also asked to leave since he no longer had anyone to train), the remaining nine contestants learn that they will be spending the week in New Zealand. The trip ends up being an emotional one for Moses, whose father spent much time there as he was growing up. The start of their trip incorporates many adventure elements, two which include Auckland's Sky Tower, the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere. One of those adventures makes one contestant and one trainer face their ultimate fear. The team challenge - a 5 kilometer race - also incorporates adventure elements in that it is run across rugged mountain terrain, which includes running through a creek bed and climbing up a slippery sand dune. The first workout brings out a difference in opinion between Ken and Cara. During the last chance work-out where Bob leads everyone - including the other trainers - in a yoga session, Cara takes Ken aside to deal with his issues. Despite the spectacular nature of the setting, everyone is concerned about the week's weigh-in, especially due to the toll the travel may have taken on their bodies.

After the latest weigh-in when Justin was voted off the ranch, Kaylee feels like she needs to clear the air about her own premeditated and failed attempt to be voted off. That emotional encounter is followed by another when the contestants revisit the day they found out that they were going to be on the show. Alison also makes them think about "team 12", the team that didn't quite make it on the show, or does this team make it on? The pop challenge has the contestants balancing balls on boards. The winning team of the pop challenge receives a one minute advantage at the team challenge, with the losing team leaving the ranch for the week with a $1,000 budget to be spent on predetermined "menu" items. That losing team has an emotional discussion with their trainer about their choices before leaving the ranch. A couple of the people chosen to have access to the trainers not only have strenuous physical workouts, but also emotional breakthroughs. Following the latest weigh-in when Deni and Jesse purposely sacrificed themselves by falling below the red line and asking to be voted off among the losing team respectively, the remaining contestants learn that those two are not the only two going home this week. All the contestants are going home for two weeks, where they will see loved ones, but also face those temptations and demons that brought them to the ranch to begin with. They each go home to a warm welcome, but all are soon faced with real life. Austin celebrates his twenty-first birthday and considers indulging. Courtney needs to go back to work at the family fast food restaurant with its obvious temptations. Jesse and Arthur have a heart to heart about the problems that led to Arthur's weight gain. Hannah revisits her former second home: the volleyball court. And Kaylee decides to pay it forward to her family. All the contestants also don't lose sight of the fact that when they return to the ranch, they will participate in a 5 kilometer foot race. Then, they have a sense of déjà vu to week one. Some see the race as a chance to retake control of their own destiny on the ranch. They must also contend with the weigh-in, which, with the resulting vote, ultimately brings out the emotions of many about what is best for each individual contestant versus what is considered the right thing to do.

After the latest weigh-in, when Jay was voted off the ranch, Alison brings together all the contestants to tell them that for the next weigh-in, they will still weigh-in as teams where one person will be voted off, but that they will also weigh-in as individuals with the person with the lowest percentage of weight loss automatically leaving the ranch. That means that two people are leaving after the next weigh-in. As such, the trainers work the contestants especially hard this week. The black team ultimately discuss strategy to protect who they consider their most vulnerable team member, Arthur. The discussion ends up being a heated one. On the flip side, Brett and Cara focus their attention on Kaylee, the lightest person on the red team who is closest to reaching her goal weight and thus susceptible to lower percentage of weight loss. Brett and Cara take the red team off campus to work at a mixed-martial arts studio, where Rulon meets an old friend. The team challenge is a volleyball styled one, where the teams are hampered both by the size of the balls and the gear the team members must wear on their hands. The winning team gets a three pound advantage as a team at the weigh-in. At the weigh-in, obvious strategy comes into play which brings about tears from some, relief from others and cheers all around.

On the ranch's last chance workout, Hannah has a breakthrough thanks to Jillian, that breakthrough which she feels is the start of a new life. At the weigh-in, Jay and Jennifer return, they who give the on-ranch contestants the first news of what life off-ranch has been like. After the weigh-in, two contestants make an admission about this past week. The post weigh-in also marks the return of the off-ranch contestants, who no longer have the comfort of immunity after four weeks of being on the Biggest Loser. All the contestants learn that they will still be training as two separate teams, with Bob and Jillian's contestants working toward a weight-loss goal which could mean immunity for them all at the next weigh-in. Conversely, Brett and Cara's teams have a weight-gain challenge, the winning pair which will also receive immunity for the week. Regardless, one person from Brett and Cara's group will definitely be sent home after the next weigh-in. The vote after the weigh-in is an emotional one as the voters have mixed emotions between who they would really like to see leave, and the plea by the team below the yellow line to send the other person home for their own personal reasons.

After the first elimination weigh-in, when Ana was eventually voted off the ranch, the remaining eleven contestants on the ranch learn that the ten contestants training off the ranch lost more weight by far with two fewer people, despite the fact that those ten had immunity and have immunity for another three weeks and thus mentally did not have to work as hard to remain in the game. As an incentive for this week, Alison tells the on-ranch contestants that if they lose more weight by percentage than their off-ranch compatriots, they will all have immunity for the week. Both groups have further incentive in that the group who wins the weigh-in will receive $10,000. The off-ranch contestants send their on-ranch colleagues a temptation challenge and more personal messages of their own. As Bob and Jillian train the on-ranch contestants, they dig deeper into the psyches of a few to uncover the reasons for their weight problems. Dr. Huizenga provides each of the contestants with a health and medical evaluation, which are among the worst he has ever seen of those people on the show. The team reward challenge has each group building a floating bridge over which all team members must cross, the winning team, that which crosses the fastest, being awarded a three pound advantage at the weigh-in. The on-ranch contestants face a minor setback when Jillian takes ill, leaving Bob to do double duty during the last chance workout. By the end of the week, Bob uses the David vs. Goliath analogy to compare the on-ranch to off-ranch contestants, but hopes for the same end result as the story.

This season's twenty-two contestants - eleven sets of couples - are brought onto the ranch, where they weigh-in for the first time. Bob and Jillian are still amazed that after ten seasons of the show that there are still so many people who have not got the message of living healthily. Two firsts among this set of contestants are one who is deemed the heaviest ever on the show in proportion to height (he who lost 140 pounds already from his heaviest weight), while another is an Olympic gold medalist. As the contestants see their starting weight, they discuss the issues which have brought them to the ranch. Instead of going for their first workout immediately following, the contestants learn that they will participate in their first challenge - a 5 kilometer run per team - the outcome which will determine which six teams will stay on the ranch to train with Bob and Jillian, and which five teams will go to an undisclosed location to train with two other unnamed trainers new to the show. There is a major incentive to train with the unknowns. As the six teams train with Bob and Jillian, who don't understand why anyone would have passed up the incentive, some of those teams in turn don't understand how any trainers can be better than Bob and Jillian. The remaining five teams also believe their workouts will yield as good if not better results than those on the ranch. Before weighing in for the first elimination weigh-in, the on-ranch contestants are given a general overview of how the off-ranch contestants performed. The elimination is an emotional one, where both team members up for elimination asks for the other to stay.

The eight remaining contestants, now competing as individuals, are provided support in the form of video messages from home. One contestant, however, receives no such traditional support, but does receive one from a non-traditional source. Both Bob and Jillian focus much of their attention on Elizabeth, who they feel has not yet been able to stand on her own two feet at the ranch. Jillian gets her to complete a yet as of unfinished task. But they want all the contestants to step their training up a notch as their on-ranch journey gets closer to ending. After Anna is voted off the ranch at the latest weigh-in, the trainers are dismayed that it was collectively the worst weigh-in in the show's history with three of the contestants gaining weight. The remaining ten contestants learn that for the next week they will no longer be in two teams, but rather five teams of two, each pair who will weigh-in together. Two teams will fall below the yellow line, with one team being voted off the ranch. One of those ten will make the decision as to the pairings based on a temptation challenge where on a set menu, each contestant will secretly order an appetizer, a main course and a dessert apiece, with the person consuming the most calories winning the challenge. For the food to count toward the calorie count, the entire plate of food must be consumed. When the appetizers arrive, it becomes obvious who is playing the game. What may be more troubling is the one person not playing the game that decides to eat a decadent dessert just for the want of it. The winner of the challenge has an obvious game plan, which ends up creating two factions on the ranch. Because sugar plays such a big part in obesity, the contestants compete in a reward challenge to build a sugar cube tower five feet tall, transporting the sugar cubes from a pile to the construction site one cube at a time. The result of the temptation challenge brings out many emotions both amongst the contestants and the trainers. Bob and Jillian feel they have to address issues specifically with Aaron, Ada and Lisa. The trainers also focus much of the training regimen based on the pairings. The weigh-in continues to bring out those emotions, with Bob and Jillian contributing to the free for all argument. The vote is equally as emotional, especially between one of the contestants voted off and one of the people who voted for that team. In a post episode live segment, Bob visits the eliminated contestants at one of their homes to see how they are doing months after that emotional elimination.

Immediately following the latest weigh-in when Adam was voted off the ranch, the remaining eleven contestants learn that they will immediately leave for their new training site to work with their new trainers for the week: Camp Pendleton with the US Marine Corps. Upon arrival at camp, some are buoyed by the discipline they feel they require to achieve their weight loss goal, while others feel they can't handle the boot camp style of training. However, the five contestants who never made it onto the ranch arrive, with the one of those five with the highest percentage of weight loss coming onto campus to compete with the twelve. That person learns that he/she will wield much power as that person will also determine the newly formed teams: six on the black team who will train with Jillian, and six on the blue team who will train with Bob, with the final person, who will have immunity for the week, being allocated to the team who loses a contestant this week. That person makes a surprise decision which may be their downfall if the plotting on the ranch works the way those contestants determine. The game playing irks Bob and Jillian, who get wind of the plot. Beyond their first workout, their first team task is a reward challenge, where, as a team, they must race through downtown Los Angeles the fastest, with a different team member answering a food related question at each of six stops, with wrong answers resulting in that team member needing to complete a workout time penalty. The challenge ends with surprising and selfless results. This week's weigh-in ends up being an emotional one based on the thoughts of game play.

The fourteen contestants learn that they will be joined on the ranch by two of the seven eliminated contestants, those two being "saved", one each by Bob and Jillian. They also learn that despite wearing a same colored t-shirt as the other contestant that made it through from their city, each of the sixteen contestants is competing as an individual. The sixteen go through their first workout with Bob and Jillian, and have their first assessment by Dr. Huizenga. Both processes are eye opening experiences, and not in good ways for most. Bob and Jillian also take the contestants into the kitchen to discuss their diet, past and future. Aaron, Brendan and Mark receive presents from home based on the discussions in the kitchen. Alison drops two bombshells on the contestants regarding their first weigh-in on the ranch: it will done earlier than they expected, and the yellow line will not be above the bottom two contestants but rather the bottom half of all the contestants. Although most contestants end up posting big weight loss numbers, the euphoria quickly turns to dismay for some as one by one a contestant falls below the yellow line. In a temptation challenge, the contestants are forced to eat all their meals alone for one day in a room filled with both healthy foods, and unhealthy foods. The person who eats the most calories will have the only vote at this week's weigh-in, except if that person falls below the yellow line. In that case, the vote will occur as usual. Many contestants resist temptation, some fall to temptation without a thought of playing the game, while two in combination decide to play the game. But with those happy reunions comes the challenge of continuing to eat right and exercise despite all of the distractions and temptations away from the ranch. After arriving home, the players also get a surprise - a gift crate with a stationary bicycle and a DVD of host Alison Sweeney explaining the at-home temptation and challenge that awaits them. Each contestant will ride the length of a full marathon (26.2 miles) on their new stationary bike - but they are also provided with a temptation in the form of 48 mini-cupcakes. The contestants immediately learn their reward challenge for the week: pulling a 33,000 pound semi-trailer truck and putting together a puzzle at the finish line. The reward challenge is quickly dispensed of as, for the week, the contestants are moving back to something resembling real life. They will commute by bus to and from a job - volunteering for Feeding America at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank - working an eight hour shift each day. In addition, like real life, they must think about what they will eat during their work day, and the gym will only be open for certain hours, meaning that they only have a limited amount of time to work out before and/or after their job.

Following, the remaining contestants, who were only last week told they were playing now as individuals, now learn that they will now be placed on teams, however not their original couple partnership, but a blue team trained by Bob, and a black team trained by Jillian. The winner of a temptation challenge has the power to select those teams, as well as select one undesignated person (which may be him/herself) to receive immunity for the week. The person with immunity will ultimately be on the team which loses a player at this week's weigh-in. Without knowing what the temptation challenge is, each contestant has to decide if they want to participate. After making the decision to play, those players have some regrets in that the temptations (consumption of high calorie foods) are not choices but necessary penalties of the game. The choices made by the winner of the challenge bother many of the other contestants, as well as Bob and Jillian. This week's reward challenge is one of strength and working together as a team. The winning team's rewards are letters from home. Before this week's weigh-in, the contestants have a reassessment by Dr. Huizenga.

Having the lowest percentage of weight loss as a team and being a single member team, John, without deliberation, was sent home after the latest weigh-in. Koli is having doubts about himself being on campus, especially as John, who he feels is more deserving, is no longer there. The contestants learn that for this week, they will now be weighing in as individuals as opposed to teams, two contestants will be sent home (the one with the lowest percentage of weight loss, plus one of the next two who will be voted home), and in the spirit of the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics that they will be training at the US Olympic Training Center much like Olympic athletes do. As a pop challenge, the contestants are required to 500 slides on a slide board (mimicking a speed skating maneuver), with a gold, silver and bronze medal awarded to the top three finishers. Those three get an advantage at the reward challenge, which is styled along the lines of a biathlon. The winner of the reward challenge gets immunity at this week's weigh-in. Because of the travel to and from the Olympic Center and the higher fat food available there, the contestants are all concerned about this week's weigh-in. Following the weigh-in, the two contestants below the yellow line receive a surprise.

At the last weigh-in, Migdalia was voted off campus. The campus is not only down one contestant but two as one is sent to hospital temporarily on a medical issue. But two others ultimately return to campus as the at home challenge given to Victoria and Cherita and Sunshine and O'Neal, which the on-campus contestants did not know about, comes to an end and the four return to campus to weigh-in. Before doing so, they go through what Bob calls the Biggest Loser rite of passage: a last chance workout. The returning team is told that they will receive immunity for the week, but that they are also given ultimate power: the only vote at the week's all contestant weigh-in. During the week, Bob and Jillian each focus in on a few contestants to get to the bottom of their weight issues. The reward challenge is a Super Bowl week football related challenge, with the winning team receiving immunity at the week's weigh-in, the losing team getting a two-pound penalty.

The twenty-two contestants - who arrive as teams of two - are introduced, three of whom are the heaviest three contestants ever on the show, and one team which weighs collectively close to half a ton. Their initial weigh-in is held in each's hometown in front of family, friends and other townsfolk. When they arrive on campus and enter the gym for the first time, the contestants are surprised to see it empty, except for twenty-two bicycles. Each team is to cycle collectively 26.2 miles, the equivalent of a marathon. The team to finish the distance first gets immunity from elimination, the bottom two teams who will be asked to leave the campus immediately. However Bob and Jillian are training together, and use the first workout to assess the fitness and personality of each of the contestants. At the first weigh-in, the contestants are weighed as a team. The team with the lowest percentage of weight loss falls below the yellow line. The remaining contestants vote which of the two on that team will be eliminated. At the weigh-in, two contestants set new weight loss records for the show.

With Tracey being voted off campus after the previous weigh-in, there are eight contestants remaining. Those eight see it as a contest of four against four: the younger contestants (Amanda, Daniel, Rebecca and Shay) versus the older contestants (Allen, Danny, Liz and Rudy). This difference is especially important in the balance of power this week as two people will be going home after the next weigh-in. The person with the lowest percentage of weight loss will fall below the "red line", and immediately be sent home. The two others with the next lowest percentage of weight loss will fall below the "yellow line" and go through the regular voting process. The first game, one purely of luck, offers the winner the power to rearrange the groupings. The participants will now be split into two teams - one training with Jillian, one training with Bob - with the winner of the game assigning who will train with who and who will be on which team. The game has some other possible windfalls, but also some large potential costs. The winner of the game is the one person who most of the other participants least wanted it, that person who makes some unpopular decisions. Some are unable to cope without the partner they've had since day one of being on campus. The reward challenge is one of each person figuratively and literally carrying their team, the winning team to get a video letter from home. Some on the winning team show their support for their former partners. Because the contestants met the challenge of losing a collective 150 pounds between them the previous week - even without needing the 35 extra pounds they "won" - no one was voted off campus last week. One contestant learns of a medical issue which may altar her training. Before the start of this week, Alison offers one team a weight advantage at the next weigh-in in exchange for no access to the trainers, that weight advantage starting at 2 pounds and going up by 2 pounds until one team decides to take it. The individual that ultimately makes the unilateral decision to take the weight advantage does not have the emotional support of their partner or of the trainers. Alison offers yet a second advantage, this one available to only one person. That person will decide which person from each team will represent the team in the next weigh-in. The winner of that advantage has to eat the most food placed in front of them, each person not being able to see the amount eaten by any of the others. The trainers once again chastise the person who ate the most food. The teams also face an immunity challenge, one of both strength and endurance. The teams are given the choice of heavier weights over longer distances or lighter weights over shorter distances. Irrespective of the challenge outcome, all teams race in the spirit it was intended. By the end of the week, one person becomes the target for all the others, regardless of if that person remains on campus after this week or not.

The sixteen contestants for season 8 are introduced. The theme for the season is having a second chance, which brings with it a lot of baggage for most, if not all, contestants. The second chance applies to the show with one contestant, back from a previous season, and has been allowed to continue with his weight loss journey. Before the contestants even have a chance to do a workout, weigh-in or meet the trainers, they are subjected to their first challenge, a 1-mile race, the winner to have immunity from elimination. As with previous seasons, all the contestants will be paired up, the winner of the race also having the choice of his/her partner. The race proves to be too much for two of the contestants. At the first official weigh-in, there are five people over 400 pounds apiece - the largest number ever for the show, and the heaviest single person ever on the show. At their first workout, the contestants learn that both Bob and Jillian will be jointly training them all. Each contestant goes through a medical evaluation, which is a wake up call for most. At the first elimination weigh-in, only fifteen contestants weigh-in, although all sixteen are still in the game.

Before season 7 is completed, season 8 already begins with two hopefuls, Amanda and Erinn, vying for the one remaining spot for next season's competition. The decision on who that person will be is made by popular vote by the American public during the airing of this live episode, voting based on part on how each does in a workout with Bob and Jillian. The results on the "Pound for Pound" Challenge is presented, this program which aims to tie weight-loss programs across the United States to food bank donations, with the amount of weight pledged and lost equaled by the weight of food donated. The nineteen non-finalist contestants weigh-in to see who has the highest percentage of weight loss to earn the $100,000 "at home" prize. The final three weigh-in last, to see who will take home the $250,000 grand prize. After the latest vote in which Cathy sacrificed herself to save both her daughter Kristin and teammate Aubrey and was thus sent home, Alison announced that there would be no more teams and that everyone was now working as an individual. Each contestant would also pick either Bob or Jillian - they would want for their trainer for the remainder of their time on the campus, an easy choice for some, a more difficult one for others. The week's challenge was in two parts, the actions of the contestants almost making one decide to pack it in and go home. The challenge - the winner of which would get immunity from elimination this week - allowed contestants to penalize others by adding as much weight as they have lost to date to any other contestant for part two of the challenge, the nature of which was not specified beforehand. When part two came along, the extra weight made some more resolved to win, while it made some feel defeated. The actual weigh-in was bittersweet for many in that milestones were achieved, but still resulted in low percentage of weight loss for the week, meaning they could be sent home on the upcoming vote.

After the latest vote, Alison announced to all the remaining contestants that Mandi would not be the only person sent home that week. In fact, all the remaining contestants were being sent home to spend the time until the next weigh-in back in their home environment. To the contestants, being sent home is a mixed blessing: missing family and friends, they were looking forward to spending time with their loved ones, but on the other hand they are back to the old issues and temptations which were in part a cause of their original weight issues. The black team in particular is aware of this problem because of the indulgences they all partook at the resort spa the week before. After arriving home to family, friends and fanfare, the contestants found out that they would not be left totally to their own devices. They all were going to participate in an individual challenge of running a half marathon, the winner of the challenge - the person with the fastest time - receiving $10,000. There is one hitch. Each contestant is given 13 sugar cookies, each containing approximately 350 calories. For every cookie a contestant eats, he/she can add 5 minutes to any of the other contestant's time. Thus each contestant must weigh the benefit of adding to a competing contestant's run time against the negative of potential weight gain from eating the cookies.

Each contestant will need to decide whether it is worth it to participate when they are put in a room full of unhealthy food. They have four minutes to consume or not consume the most calories and the winner will receive a three-pound pass that will be used to their advantage at this week's weigh-in. In the physical challenge, contestants will participate in three different 100-meter heats against the yellow team formed by three kids. Host Alison Sweeney informs them that the winning team will receive a phone call home, making the stakes this week even higher. After the weigh-in one of the teams will have to send someone home.
