The Secret in the Siege
After a mysterious murder, Booth...
more
After a mysterious murder, Booth visits the crime scene and interviews a young lady who witnessed a man fleeing the scene. A fellow agent finds a ski hat in the trash. Not much to go on -- until Booth receives a call on his cell. It's Pelant, who taunts the FBI guy. Turns out Pelant is monitoring the scene via various hidden cameras. "You crossed a line when you shot me," the psychopath warns. Retorts Booth: "You think this is a game?" Responds Pelant: "Of course. And now the rules have changed." Uh oh.
Back at the lab, Camille, Angela, and Bones examine the dead body, which is riddled with bullet holes. Angela suggests that Booth remove himself from the case as Pelant is targeting FBI agents, but Bones doesn't want to hear it. Bones then examines the victim's leg and the bone shows signs of 10-year-old dog bites, very similar to a previous victim. Turns out all the agents were part of a hush-hush assault on a cult compound guarded by dogs. Booth was also on that team. But why does Pelant care? Sweets suggests that he is working through a surrogate as a number of children saw their parents killed in the raid on the compound. "Pelant's using my work against us," Sweets concludes.
Back at the lab, Hodgins tells Angela that he should have killed Pelant when he had the chance. "These men, the victims, they're my fault," Hodgins says. Bones and Booth, meanwhile, argue. Bones is furious because Booth did not reveal that he was one of the FBI agents who raided the compound -- agents that are now apparently being targeted. "You are not allowed to die," Bones says. Sweets then begins investigating potential surrogates and identifies a man whose parents were killed in the compound raid and who blogs about the FBI. The man lives in an area where particulates on the ski hat are found.
Booth poses as a member of a road crew and stops the young man's truck. A SWAT team emerges from the nearby trucks. The young man, whose tattoo matches one identified by a crime scene witness, tries to turn his shotgun on himself. Booth stops the suicide and then brings the young man, Zane, in for questioning. "Pelant is using you," Booth says. "You're better than that." Says Zane: "I only wish I was the guy he used to pull the trigger." So it wasn't Zane.
Booth then gets a call from Bones, who gives her partner a bag of beef jerky.... because it's something he loves. She then begins to tear up. "Will you marry me, Booth?" she asks. "All this just made me see things more clearly. I love you. I want you to be my husband." Booth says yes. They kiss. And, unbeknownst to either, Pelant is watching via hidden camera. We see Pelant recording and dubbing Booth's voice. Ominous at best. Later, Bones discovers that both victims were shot 11 times. "So what ties the FBI, Crystal Creek (the compound) and the number 11 together?" Angela asks. Good question.
The team then rethinks their theory. Instead of the child of a cult member being the surrogate, could it be a child of one of the FBI agents who was killed? Sure enough, Angela finds an agent who was killed in the raid after being shot 11 times. He had a daughter, Anna, who he trained to be an expert marksman. It all seems to fit. We then see Anna watching a video of her father who is giving her instructions to kill. Of course, the video is actually Pelant who has overlaid the face of the dead man over his own. Anna calls Booth. It turns out she is the witness from the murder scene. Booth will not suspect the young lady at all.
A short time later, Bones can't reach Booth on the phone.... because he's gone to interview the witness. The FBI quickly puts two-and-two together and storms Anna's apartment looking for clues. They find the creepy video from Anna's dead father. "Pelant is sending these videos to her," Camille says. They then begin to decrypt the file and a code appears. It reads: "Booth decoy target Sweets." And where is Sweets? Stuck in a traffic jam of Pelant's creation. Angela frantically searches the traffic for Sweet's car. They find it. "I'm close," Booth says. "I can get there." Bones races out of the lab, too.
Booth runs through the streets, weaving in and out of idling cars. At the same moment, Anna spots Sweets and pulls her gun. Booth fires and Anna goes down with a wound to the shoulder. Booth and Bones then find each other in the street and embrace. Later, Pelant makes a final call to Booth. "You can never marry her," Pelant says. "If you ignore me you will be responsible for the death of five innocent people." Booth pretends the call is from his mother to protect Bones. "I will kill you," he whispers to Pelant before hanging up.
So the wedding will have to wait, and Bones can't know why. In a heartbreaking scene, Booth tells Bones that he can't marry her. Bones begins to cry. She is hurt and confused by Booth's sudden turnaround.

The Party in the Pants

more
A young man tries, with intermittent success, to operate a giant shovel. Of course, he manages to accidentally snag a badly decomposed body from construction the site and dump it on his yelling boss. She yells even louder.
At the office, Booth is greeted by his mother. It's been 24 years since they've seen each other. "I guess I should start by apologizing," she says. But Booth doesn't want to hear it. He knows the hell his mom went through and claims not to hold a grudge. "I don't hate you, mom," he says. "I missed you." They hug.
At the construction site, Bones explains that Booth is in a good mood because his mother has returned after "abandoning" him. The victim appears to be a firefighter... until Hodgins discovers tear-away pants and a thong. "I think our victim was a stripper," Camille observes. Seems logical. At the Jeffersonian, Wendell theorizes that the dead man was dragged into the building -- and the killer knew that building was going to be demolished. A way to hide the body.
The man is then ID'd as a stockbroker, Jack, who was recently reported missing. So the victim was moonlighting as an exotic dancer. Later that evening, Booth and his mom catch up over glasses of wine. Booth continues to appear totally OK with his mom showing up after decades. He only bristles when mom brings up her abusive ex-husband, Booth's dad. Bones enters and, using her usual tact, matter-of-factly points out the signs of abuse on mom. "I was thrown down a flight of stairs," mom says. It's an awkward moment.
The next day, Booth interviews the victim's boss, who reported him missing. He is shocked to learn that Jack was a stripper, especially given his considerable salary. He then offers to help Booth manage his pension. Booth ends the interview. In the meantime, Bones and Wendell find evidence of a condition common with overweight children in the victim. Sweets, in the victim's apartment with Booth, theorizes that this led to "painful body issues" that the man tried to resolve through stripping. They then listen to a message on the dead man's answering machine from a woman accusing Jack of cheating.
Later, Sweets interviews the woman who left the message. She is from a very rich family and explains that Jack convinced her father to invest millions. She then suggests that Sweets looking to a stripper named Storm, who gave Jack his big break when he was broke. Jack repaid the man by taking his clients. "They got into an epic fight at the gym a couple of weeks ago," she says.
Mom and Booth go to the park -- and she announces that she is getting married to a piano player with two kids. "I want you to give me away," mom says. For the first time, Booth becomes angry. So his mother was being a mom to another family? "I thought you said you couldn't handle a family?!" Booth asks. Mom becomes defensive and the talk goes downhill fast from there. At dinner with Bones, Booth refuses to talk about the fallout with mom. Bones then reveals that while researching a scholarly paper on stripping, she posed as a stripper. Booth, who has a lot on his mind, can't even go there right now.
Bones and Booth then track down Storm, who is performing as a cop at a birthday party for a group of screeching women. He claims Jack was his friend, despite their recent disagreement over clients that came to blows. Wendell, meanwhile, discovers cause of death: a severe contusion to the spine. Hodgins finds a bed bug encased in the wound. Was the stripper killed in a motel room? Later, a crying mom tries to explain herself to Booth before saying goodbye -- seemingly forever. Booth keeps quiet, but appears sad.
Camille then matches DNA found on the victim with a woman, Cynthia, who recently had a bachelorette party. Turns out that she slept with Jack -- and was caught by her husband-to-be, Jason, who was arrested for assaulting her. "I pushed her," the man claims when questioned by Booth. "What happened between Cynthia and me is none of your business." Jason admits he was furious at his future wife, but says Jack was long gone when he found out.
Back at the lab, Angela discovers a chain of deleted emails on Jack's computer that detail his boss's plans to exact an illegal investment scheme that would've cheated clients out of much, much money. So the boss is brought back for questioning and denies any wrongdoing -- at least in terms of murder. The boss says that Jack took to the scheme and duped his girlfriend and her family out of $200,000. "That's who you should go after," the boss says.
Unfortunately, the girlfriend's rich father has put a whole bunch of high-priced lawyers between her and Booth. Evidence is needed. Later, Bones reexamines the Bones and finds particulates that would all be found in a toy gun. And who has a toy gun? Storm, the fake cop. Storm explains that the toy is part of his costume. "I think you beat him with it," Bones says. Booth then theorizes that Storm met Jack at a hotel -- one with bed bugs -- and killed him after finding out that the thousands of dollars he had invested with Jack was all gone. "It was every cent I had," Storm says. "I just wanted my money back!"
So case closed. The episode ends with Booth having second thoughts and taking Bones to his mom's wedding. It's a sparsely attended affair at the local church -- and mother and son share a huge hug. All appears forgiven and Booth meets his new stepfather.

The Maiden in the Mushrooms
Two young people are on a scavenger...
more
Two young people are on a scavenger hunt inside an old factory. They soon discover a human skull. Disgusting. Back at home, Bones admires Christine's paintings, comparing them to abstract art. Booth shares bad news: Christine bit another kid at daycare. The proud mama refuses to believe it. Bones and Booth then head to the factory and discover the remainder of the body hidden among blooms of mushrooms. The woman was impeccably dressed, yet ended up dead in one of the worst neighborhoods in Washington D.C. Strange.
Back at the lab, Bones determines that the victim suffered a blow to the head, but it wouldn't have been enough to kill the woman. Angela then finds a possible match through facial reconstruction. It matches a 20-something who was recently reported missing by Judge Trudy, a popular television personality. Meanwhile, Bones hears that biting among toddlers is "average" and becomes quite angry. Christine, according to Bones, is far from the average child.
Bones and Booth head to "Citizens Court" and interrupt a taping/trial. They meet Jill, the interim producer who replaced the dead woman. Trudy theorizes that the victim was in a bad part of town recruiting people for the show. The TV judge also reveals that her bailiff, Griff, used to date the victim. Back at the lab, Hodgins eats the last of Finn's hot sauce, which was made by his dead grandmother. To make up for it, Hodgins recreates the molecular structure of the sauce. "I'm not going to let that hot sauce die," Hodgins explains. Unfortunately, one compound remains a mystery. The game is still afoot.
Booth and Bones interview Griff, who explains that he and the victim adopted a dog before breaking up. He also explains that the victim was obsessed with her job and specialized in riling up the real people on the show. "She went out of her way to push buttons on the crazies," Angela says. One of those "crazies," who recently appeared on the show, is brought in for questioning because she lost a case and threatened the producer. She refuses to cooperate.
While the cops check out the woman's alibi, Booth identifies another "crazy" reality star, Gordie, who had a restraining order filed against him by the victim. Booth interviews Gordie, who claims the victim was into him. Booth accuses the young man of being a straight-up stalker. Meanwhile, Bones asks Angela to hack into the daycare center computer to she if there is any physical evidence on the two-year-old whom Christine is accused of biting. An amused Angela agrees to play along. Bones and Booth watch behind-the-scenes video of the Judge Trudy show and realize that Trudy is actually quite drunk.
So Trudy is brought in for questioning by Booth and Sweets. "You're more than a social drinker, aren't you?" Booth asks. "I can tell by the way your hand is shaking." Judge Trudy reluctantly admits that she has a problem. It also turns out that Trudy's contract could have been voided if she had been caught. Did she kill her producer to stop her from talking? Angela then discovers that Christine's daycare buddy has been bitten on the arm. Angela compares the bite marks and determines that the odds are good that Christine is responsible.
Hodgins then tests a batch of hot sauce on Finn, who determines that it's perfect. Hodgins, feeling bad that he ate all of the original sauce, found a rare herb common to swampy areas to complete the recipe. Finn, looking at a bendy bone from a piece of sauce-soaked catfish, then determines that the victim was likely strangled. The evidence is not clear because the producer was young enough to, like the catfish, have a bendy bone in her neck. Bones is impressed. Jill is brought back in for questioning and admits that she badly wanted the victim's job -- and was also sneaking vodka to Judge Trudy.
Later, a cause of death begins to emerge. The victim was hanged from a stairwell in the factory and then cut down, producing small fractures on the bottom of her feet. There are also marks on the victim's mandible with traces of dog dander. The producer was strangled with a dog collar. So Griff is brought back into the office. The bailiff admits that he went to pick up his beloved dog from the victim and found the dog dead and tied to the deck. The dog died of strangulation when it ran off the deck. "I couldn't let Rebecca get away with that," says Griff, who hung his ex-girlfriend in a similar manner.
Case closed. Hodgins and Finn then head to a local restaurant and let the chef taste the hot sauce. She loves it and offers to sell it. Hodgins demands that it be called "Opie and Thurston's Hot Sauce." Booth and Bones eat dinner and Booth warns that Christine will misbehave over the course of her life. He then notices that Bones had a bite mark on her neck. "Christine got excited," Bones says. "That doesn't mean she bit Emma."

The Blood from the Stones
Camille, Booth and Bones find a dead...
more
Camille, Booth and Bones find a dead body in a car -- a body that has decomposed in two different ways because it has been residing in two separate microclimates. In the trunk of the car, Booth finds an old-time shotgun with the serial number filed off. "Let's get climate guy back to the Jeffersonian," Booth says. At the lab, the team is introduced to Andrew Jursic, a documentary filmmaker who has been commissioned to raise funds for the Jeffersonian. Camille explains that he has complete access -- much to the chagrin of Bones, who claims to be the protagonist. "That's for me to decide," Jursic says.
Moments later, Bones finds a balloon inside the victim. A drug mule? Not quite. The balloon is filled with diamonds. "Nice plot twist," Jursic quips. Clark then visits the lab, explaining that he has been asked to work alongside Bones for the film. "Uh oh," Hodgins says. Indeed. Camille then re-hydrates the wrinkled face and the team is able to ID the victim: a security guard with a criminal record working for a diamond merchant.
Booth and Bones then visit Oscar, the diamond merchant, who is very reluctant to talk about the victim. Why? Turns out that the victim was an undercover cop. Back at the office, Booth meets with Officer Joe Dinco of the Washington DC Metro Police Department, who reveals that the dead man's real name is Reuben. He also claims that Reuben was clean -- there was no way he would've stolen the diamonds from the store.
Meanwhile, the documentary is not going well -- at least according to Bones, who is called "stiff" in comparison to Clark. Yet the two do agree that, based on the wounds, the victim was shot with two different guns. Hodgins has more news: the wounds show traces of rare falcon droppings. And these falcons roost under a single bridge in the city.
Bones and Sweets then interview the victim's wife, Lauren. She is distraught, explaining how the life of an undercover cop was very hard and very demanding. "He never discussed his cases," Lauren says. "I don't care who pulled the trigger. Reuben is dead because of Dinco." Later, Jursic meets Caroline -- and there is an instant attraction. The two begin to flirt. Booth and Bones head to the bridge and find a severed foot.
Back at the lab, Bones determines that the foot belongs to a female. The time of death is also around the same time of death as the first victim. It was blown off with a shotgun -- perhaps the same one found in the undercover cop's car. Later, Jursic asks Camille if Caroline has a husband or boyfriend. "I just need some insight into who she really is," the filmmaker says. Camille offers what she can, which isn't much. But Jursic is still excited.
Booth and Bones then head to the apartment of two college kids, Paula and Marco, caught on film robbing ATMs. They find Paula lying in bed... without a foot. So the mystery of the severed foot has been solved. Under intense questioning from Booth, Paula reveals that she tried to trade the stolen money for diamonds, but the fence -- presumably Reuben -- tried to rip them off. Then the shooting started and Paula lost a foot. Marcos tried to help her by tying the wound off before he up and disappeared.
Back at the lab, Clark discovers that the bullets in the victim match those of a police issued gun. All signs now point to Dinco. Booth and Bones then get a call: Marcos has been stopped at a nearby parking garage. The pair race to the scene and discover Dinco roughing up Marcos. Why? "You were telling him to keep his mouth shut," Booth tells the police officer. Dinco denies, denies, denies... and asks to speak to a lawyer. At the lab, Bones and Clark -- without the camera around -- discover a substance on the victim's bones consistent with unburned gunpowder. They bond over the shared discovery.
Booth, in the meantime, is interrogating Marcos, who claims a man with a shotgun took all the money. Marcos positively IDs Reuben, but denies killing him. "We're thieves, not killers," the young man says. "Especially not cop killers." In the substance that Bones and Clark found on the Bones, Hodgins also finds leather and alcohol. It soon becomes clear that Lauren shot her husband through her leather purse, breaking open a bottle of perfume in the process. She wanted the money. She just didn't want Reuben. Case closed.
Jursic and Caroline then head to dinner and drinks. A romance blossoms.

The Doom in the Gloom
A woman swims into consciousness...
more
A woman swims into consciousness inside a ramshackle shed. Her neck is bloody. She opens the door to exit... and is blow backward by flames.
Meanwhile, Sweets gets a call about an apartment in Georgetown. The young man might finally be moving out of Bones and Booth's place. Booth then gets a call: there's a body in a shed that needs investigating. B&B arrive at the scene and Booth notices that there is charred ammunition all over the place. The team takes the remains back to the Jeffersonian, where Daisy asks Bones if Sweets really is moving out. Camille identifies the victim as ex military.
Sweets notes that the victim had a pattern of aggressive behavior and was reprimanded for her behavior while in the military. In fact, she was kicked out of the Marines for fighting with a fellow soldier named Carlene. Back at the lab, Hodgins tests a kind of ammunition called "dragon's breath" that essentially shoots flame. "The shot that killed the victim also started the fire," Daisy notes. Later, Bones and Sweets interviews Carlene, who explains that the victim was a survivalist who believed that society would soon collapse. Carlene regretted fighting with the victim and was trying to reconcile.
Bones, meanwhile, finds wounds on the victim's leg consistent with munitions used during the Civil War. "I believe we are looking at an injury from a cannonball," Bones says. Sounds surprising, but Hodgins finds a cannonball maker in the shed, so the victim was apparently crafting her own. The team then finds a doctor who goes by the name "Dr. Apocalypse," who also makes cannonballs and preaches online about the impending end of days.
So Booth brings an FBI SWAT team to the good doctor's vast farm -- and discovers various booby traps along with a hatch in the ground. Booth blows up the hatch to reveal... goats and chickens. Eventually, Dr. Apocalypse emerges from the hatch along with a few others. Later, Dr. Apocalypse admits that he was around when the victim was accidentally shot in the leg with a cannonball. He says it gave the group of "preppers" an opportunity to practice their trauma care. Suspicions quickly turn to the group. "Are any of these people crazy enough to kill?" Booth asks. Sweets says yes -- to all of them.
Later, Sweets and Daisy have a moment together. "It makes no sense we couldn't make a go of it," she says. Sweets quickly changes the subject... and then Daisy finds an additional mark on the body. It's a puncture wound on the victim's clavicle consistent with a needle. Was the victim injected with some kind of drug? It would appear so. And a check of the materials seized from the group's underground bunker reveals a substance used by veterinarians to subdue animals. Angela then uses a digital simulation to "walk" through the bunker and discovers a hidden escape hatch. But with the bunker buried under six feet of dirt, how did the killer get in and out? It's another dead end.
Later, Booth figures out that the flame was set by a booby trap triggered when the victim opened the door inside the shed. Booth then interviews prepper Milo, who explains that he taught fellow member Delores, wife of Dr. Apocalypse, how to make booby traps. He also says that Delores isn't exactly a clean person and there might be residue of the booby trap on her hands. Sure enough, Bones finds explosive residue. Delores admits that the victim had slept with her husband and was far too aggressive to be part of the survivalist group. "The world is going to end because of people like her!" Delores says. Case closed.
Sweets then packs his bags and tells Booth and Bones that he is finally leaving. Bones admits that she wasn't happy when Sweets moved in, but she is now very unhappy to see him go. B&B are going to miss the head doctor. It's an emotional farewell... almost as if they're saying goodbye to a child.

The Survivor in the Soap
Camille and Arastoo steal a kiss in...
more
Camille and Arastoo steal a kiss in the office -- first making sure no one is watching. They're planning a date night, but it's interrupted by the delivery of a toxic waste canister containing human remains. How romantic. At Booth and Bones's house, the pair talk about taking a vacation -- one without any learning, Booth insists. They get a call and head back to the office. Vacation delayed. At the lab, the male body has decomposed in the barrel, creating a giant block of soap encompassing all the remains. Bones then evidence of a condition that places the victim in Africa. A quick check of the missing person database identifies the dead man as an recent arrival from Sierra Leone.
Booth and Sweets head to the victim's apartment, where they are let in by a maintenance man also from Sierra Leone. Sweets notices that there is no evidence of the man's life in his native country, as if he were running from it. Booth and Bones then meet with an immigration official, Alex, who explains that the victim was working multiple part-time jobs -- and getting extra pay under somewhat mysterious circumstances by an immigration lawyer, Wilfred. The lawyer explains that he hired the victim to help other refugees get on their feet -- finding lodging and a job, etc. "Everybody loved him," Wilfred says. The lawyer then tells Booth and Bones that a former friend of the victim came back to the U.S. illegally and asked for help. The victim refused.
Alex tells Booth that the friend was originally deported for beating somebody almost to the point of death. Arastoo then examines the now soap-free bones and determines that the victim sustained various injuries consistent with those of a child soldier. "A small boy taught to kill," Arastoo concludes sadly. Booth then discovers that the victim was paid $1,000 shortly before his death by an art gallery. Booth and Bones visit the gallery owner and photographer, who explains that she hired the Sierra Leone native, who trained as a chef, to cater an event. Bones then notices that a child depicted in the photos -- all of child soldiers in Sierra Leone -- is, in fact, the victim. He broke down and cried when he saw the particular photograph, explains the photographer/gallery owner.
Bones then notes that the killer attempted to dispose of the body in a chemical that the photographer uses to develop her pictures. She denies any involvement in the murder. Back in the lab, Angela matches the voice of the man who called in the missing man with a cab driver -- both of whom might be the victim's friend. So Booth picks the man up and brings him in for questioning. He admits to being in the country illegally. His left hand is missing at the wrist as it was cut off by rebels in his country. "I was forced to kill, but I am not a monster," says the friend, who denies any involvement in the death.
Moments later, Arastoo discovers that the friend, as an amputee, could not have possibly killed the victim. Hodgins then determines that the victim's wounds were made by materials consistent with an AK-47. But could the barrel of a gun slice through bone? The inconsistencies frustrate Arastoo to the point that he accuses Hodgins of messing up. This makes Hodgins very angry and the two are soon yelling at each other. Camille pulls aside Arastoo, for whom the case has obviously become very personal. "I'm sorry for my behavior and it won't happen again," says a suddenly very cold Arastoo.
The next day, Booth and Bones bring the friend to the gallery. He is overcome by the photos that represent his former life. One photo in particular brings the friend to his knees. It is an adult soldier -- a general responsible for recruiting child soldiers. "A monster," the photographer comments. "He's still wanted for war crimes." Booth recognizes the general as the maintenance man at the victim's apartment -- and theorizes that the victim threatened to expose him. Booth brings in the man, who cooly claims innocence. "I have nothing to say to you," the maintenance man says. "You're wasting your time."
So Booth then takes the voice of the maintenance man and matches it up against recordings of the general from years ago. They're a perfect match. But Bones hasn't yet proved that the maintenance man killed the victim. She then has a brainstorm: the AK-47 was molded into a tribal mask and used to stab the victim -- the same tribal mask she saw at Wilfred's office. In fact, the lawyer's office uses as cleaning solution that matches the material in which the body was disposed. Finally, the lawyer for the maintenance man is Wilfred.
Booth and Bones burst into the man's office. Turns out that the victim came to the lawyer to explain that his building's maintenance man is wanted for crimes against humanity. "You killed him because you don't want to be exposed for shielding a war criminal," Booth explains. He did it for the money. Wilfred is cuffed and dragged away. Case closed. Later, Arastoo explains to Camille that he had some experience child soldiers during the first Persian Gulf war -- his cousin. "He was taken away," the intern explains. "I saw it." Camille hugs her man. "We're at work," he says. Says Camille: "Never mind." She then announces to the team that they are dating.

The Fact in the Fiction
A farmer plowing his field comes...
more
A farmer plowing his field comes across a dead body without a head. Unfortunately, he can't stop in time and runs over the corpse. "I just killed a dead guy!" he cries. Later, Booth and Bones arrive at the scene. As they examine the victim, Booth talks about investing in asteroid mining -- much to the skepticism of his partner. The pair then head to the diner where a wild-eyed, disheveled man enters, asking for Bones. Booth pulls his gun and tells the man to get on the ground. He complies, then rolls the victim's skull across the floor. "Hi, I'm your new intern!" the man tells Bones. Back at the lab, Camille explains that the intern, Oliver, tracked the skull to a coyote den six miles from the murder scene. He is quite educated, holding many degrees.
Booth and Sweets head to an auto body shop to interview the dead man's brother, Garcia. Garcia, upset, suggests that the FBI check in with Courtney, the victim's very recent ex-girlfriend. He also suggests that his brother might have been killed for his truck, which was a classic vehicle. Booth and Sweets interview Courtney, who explains that the victim had two interests: meticulously restoring his classic truck, and time travel. Back at the lab, Angela examines the victim's laptop and finds extremely complicated theories concerning time travel. Hodgins, not surprisingly, is intrigued and impressed. The victim was also logged into a college server as Prof. Scott Hunter.
Oliver, meanwhile, suggests that Bones's hyper-rational nature limits her curiosity on a certain subjects. "Are you saying I'm narrow-minded?" Bones asks. Says Oliver: "Your words, not mine." He then notices damage that is consistent with a high voltage passing through the body. Bones says Prof. Hunter was fired from his teaching job for electrocuting one of his students in an ill-advised experiment. Booth and Bones then interview the professor, who admits that he was working with the victim on time-travel theories and experiments. Sure enough, there is a 250-volt battery in the professor's lab.
Back at the lab, Hodgins and his new best pal Oliver test the damage an electronic volt can do to a human and find that it's not enough to indict the professor. Hodgins then examines strawberry seeds in the victim's boots and matches the composition of the soil to a farm some miles away from where the body was found. Oliver hypothesizes that the victim was shot just below the ribs, and the resulting shock waves caused the damage to his ribs. He and Hodgins test the theory using the skeleton and a gun -- and it works. The victim was shot.
Booth and Bones head to the farm identified by Hodgins, and find the victim's almost perfectly-restored truck in a garage. They also find another body that matches the victim's in every way but age. "You're describing the victim but 20 years older," Booth tells Bones. Did the victim actually figure out this whole time travel thing? Oliver would like to think so, or, at the very least, is willing to entertain the idea. Sadly, Camille throws cold water on the whole time-travel theory with news that DNA proves the second victim is the first's father. That's shocking news to Garcia, who explains that his father left when he and his brother were young. The family was sure the father was dead.
Angela and Oliver then do a computer re-creation of the two bodies and, comparing wounds, determine that the same bullet went through both victims. Booth tracks down and interviews a drug dealer named Sidney who also works at the first victim's body shop. Sidney, a cocky little man, denies involvement in any murders. Meanwhile, Oliver discovers wounds on the first victim's legs. They were made by something slamming into them at a 45 degree angle. Sweets still thinks that Garcia is hiding something, so he and Booth head to the body shop. They discover Garcia working on a car with doors that close at 45 degree angles. After that, it all comes out. When the first victim discovered that his father was alive -- and owed the drug dealer cash -- he volunteered to give up his college money. "I couldn't let him do that!" Garcia explains. Garcia tried to shoot their dad, but brother stepped in a way. "All he ever wanted to do was go back in time and meet his dad," Garcia explains through tears. "He got his wish. And look what happened."
At home, Booth and Bones share a bottle of wine. Bones admits that she asked Oliver about asteroid mining... and he suggested heavily investing - so Bones did. Now that's thinking broadly.

The Friend in Need
A homeless man finds a filthy...
more
A homeless man finds a filthy suitcase and brings it to a pawnshop looking for a payday. When the owner refuses, the homeless opens the case to reveal very, very messy human remains. "50 cents?" bargains the homeless man. At the lab, the team examines the remains and quickly determines the victim is a teenage male. Booth and Sweets head to the home of the boy's mother to break the horrible news. The woman is comforted by her neighbor, Delores, and her neighbor's teenaged daughter, Kat. The boy was last seen at a party. Camille calls and informs Booth that Special K, aka ketamine, was in the victim's body.
Later, Finn meets Camille's daughter, Michelle, after she returns from college. The two, who are dating, haven't seen each other in some time. Back at the apartment, Booth and Sweets look through the victim's room and find tons of electronics plus a huge wad of cash. What was this teenager up to? Angela then examines some of the electronics and finds cryptic text messages traced to Nick, a young man working for his father at a moving company. Booth interviews Nick, who denies the codes in the messages represented drug prices. Instead, he explains the victim was building smart phones. Nick was helping him to sell them to other young buyers.
Back at the Jeffersonian, Bones and Finn determine the victim had been asphyxiated. Angela then discovers the victim frequently visited a photo-sharing website filled with pictures from the infamous party. In every photo, the victim looks very angry -- and is clearly following Kat. In the last few photos, the victim is clearly furious at Kat and the older boy she is dancing closely with. Booth then interviews the older boy, who admits to having words with the jealous victim, but that's all. He denies hurting the boy... or knowing his name.
Hours later, Kat comes to the Jeffersonian to talk with Sweets. "I was raped at that party," she cries. "I remember being at the party and then I woke up at home and... I knew." All she remembers is one green eye. Her mother told her not to call the police because she didn't know who did it. Kat thinks she might have been drugged. Meanwhile, Bones discovers the Special K was not in the victim's liver -- meaning: he was carrying it, but didn't ingest it himself.
Finn then tells Camille that Michelle is in town. The girl came home early from college just to see her boyfriend. "You will meet with Michelle and you will tell me where," Camille says. "That way, you get to save your relationship, I get to yell at my daughter, and she gets to think it's all a coincidence." Deal. Booth and Bones then interview Delores, who admits she confronted the victim about raping Kat. "The blood drained from his face and he ran away," the mom explains. She is convinced the dead boy drugged and raped her daughter.
Kat then confronts Sweets, blaming him for bringing her mother into it. Sweets confesses he grew up in a bad foster home and was regularly beaten. "Until someone helped me see that it wasn't my fault," he explains through tears. "I'll do everything I can to catch the person who did this to you." Later that evening, Finn and Michelle are making out in line at a club when Camille appears out of nowhere. "Michelle!?" yells Camille, a very convincing actor. Michelle is shamed. Finn comforts the daughter of his boss.
Angela then reexamines the party photos and, this time, follows Kat. They find a young man giving Kat a drink. In the next shot, she is slumped over. The drink was drugged. So who is the young man giving her the drink? Later, Michelle apologizes to her mom. Camille lectures her daughter on not keeping secrets... and then feels so guilty she admits Finn told her ahead of time. In a confessing mood, Camille then admits she is dating Arastoo. "I suppose you want me to keep that a secret from Finn?" Michelle says with a smile.
Angela, meanwhile, finds damage to the victim's bones are consistent with being trapped the suitcase by a series of heavy straps. Bones and Booth head back to Nick's moving company and find evidence of blood on his moving straps. He is arrested. In the interrogation room, Sweets notices Nick is wearing a necklace with a green eye attached. Turns out Nick drugged Kat and raped her. When the victim found out, Nick killed him and stuffed the remaining drugs in the suitcase with the body. Case closed.
Sweets then shares the news with Kat and Delores. "He gave you a spiked drink at the party," Sweets says. "He has a necklace with a green-eyed pendant." Kat breaks down in tears. Sweets urges the girl's mother to help her get though this very difficult time.

The Shot in the Dark
Bones and the gang ID yet another...
more
Bones and the gang ID yet another dead body -- this time a man found underneath a very, very high bridge. A job well done, Bones heads home to put her daughter to bed. "Perhaps she will enjoy Humpty Dumpty," she quips. At home, Bones and Booth get into a argument because she isn't spontaneous enough. Angry, Bones heads back to the lab to work. She explains to security guard Hal that it appears the most recent victim was pushed from the bridge.
Later, Bones is alone when she is shot by some sort of dart by a blurry figure. She collapses. Booth and Christine show up at the lab and find wife/mom unconscious. "Bones, stay with me!" Booth barks. "You have to fight!" Bones is rushed to the hospital. We then go inside Bones's head where the good doctor greets her mother. In this dreamscape, the two are about the same age. "I'm hallucinating," Still, Bones tells her all about Booth and Christine before trying to flee. "You're still the most stubborn girl on God's green Earth," mom says. Yells Bones: "I don't believe in God!" Again, very, very stubborn.
Meanwhile, doctors struggle to bring Bones back to consciousness on an operating table. It looks very dire. Will Bones ever wake up? Camille, in her scrubs, goes out to the waiting room and explains to Booth that Bones is stable. "Her heart stopped... twice," Camille says. "Any word on the shooter?" No, but turns out Hal was found dead on the second floor of the lab. Back at the lab, the team examines the crime scene. Clark even joins the hunt for Bones's attacker. There is no bullet. None of it seems to make any sense.
At the hospital, Bones wakes up and tells Booth that she felt cold where she was "shot." Max joins Booth and his daughter, too. Booth then informs his wife that she was dead for an entire two minutes. At the lab, Hodgins suggests an ice bullet. "It's technically possible and it would explain why no bullet was found in her body," he explains. Sweets, in the meantime, interviews everybody who was inside the Jeffersonian at the time of the attacks, but finds no leads.
Angela then arrives with interesting news. It turns out that marks on the dead body found under the bridge match those of a taser weapon carried by Hal. Did Hal kill the man on the bridge? "Ok, but then who killed Hal?" Clark asks. Good question. Sweets and his former lover Olivia then search the dead man's apartment. They find evidence that the man had very expensive tastes -- far too expensive for his salary -- and that there is evidence of a struggle. Olivia, who says that her one-night fling with Sweets was no big deal, finds confetti.
At the hospital, Angela tells Bones that the confetti was discharged from Hal's taser. So Hal went to the apartment and tased the man, who had a heart attack and died -- before he was tossed from the bridge. Just then, Bones flatlines. Once again, she sees her mother. They recall the last time they saw each other. Bones was 15. She went to bed and never saw mom again. "We had a fight, you and I," Bones says. "We fought before the night you disappeared." Turns out that they argued over a boy. Mom told daughter not to be so emotional. "You took my advice and never changed yourself for another person ever again, so you'd never be hurt," mom observes.
Back in the hospital, Bones's heart is back to beating. "Will you stop scaring us like that?!" Max says. There was some sort of mishap with the medicine and Bones's blood. Bones then explains that she saw her mother. "I went to another place," she says. "You really think I could actually be seeing my mother?" Says Booth: "Yes, I do." Back at the lab, Hodgins tests the ice bullet, but it doesn't work. So then he tests a blood bullet -- frozen blood that would mix with the victim's own. It works, and leaves no exit wound. Camille is so excited she kisses Hodgins. "You're welcome!" Hodgins calls as Camille exits.
She heads to Clark, who is taking another look at Hal's body. They spot what looks to be a puncture wound behind the security guard's ear. They find flecks of something shiny. Hodgins determines it's gold paint and wood flakes from a 12th century artifact found right there in the Jeffersonian. It looks like Hal, the dead man, and the shooter were all in on it together and after the artifact. Booth and Olivia head to the department where the artifact is housed to interview Dr. Batuhan. They find the equipment needed to create a blood bullet and to fire it among all the restoration tools. The doctor says nothing.
Dr. Batuhan is interviewed by Booth and Olivia. It appears as if the doctor has been stealing original artifacts and paintings for some time and replacing them with carefully crafted fakes. So Hal gave the artifacts to the dead man, who packs them in his private jet to avoid customs. Then Dr. Batuhan would fly with the dead man to authenticate them before they are sold. That's a good theory, anyway, but they lack proof -- a smoking blood gun, if you will. So Bones volunteers to have surgery to see if they can find evidence of the killer's blood inside of her. Under sedation, Bones sees her mom one more time. "We're never going to see each other again," Bones says. Says mom: "We will." She then encourages Bones to lower her guard and find that impulsive little girl again.
Bones awakens to find that the blood matched. He decided to cut all ties, killing the dead man with Hal's stun gun and then killing Hal by bashing him in the head with the artifact. Booth and Bones embrace. Everything will be OK.

The Doll in the Derby
Two security guards talk a big game,...
more
Two security guards talk a big game, but quickly turn to squealing and screeching when they discover a horribly mutilated body and a giant pool of blood. Time to call in the professionals. Bones and Booth are on their way to the crime scene when Booth says he is heading to the hospital. "I can help if you need me to," Bones says. Booth dismisses her. "I'll be fine," he says.
Later, the two arrive on the scene. Bones determines that the remains were emitted from a drain pipe. "Looks the guy melted," Booth notes. Bones corrects him: the victim is female... but, yes, the body appears to be dissolving. Back at the lab, Hodgins announces that it is Wendell's birthday. He is 29 and feeling awkward about it because he hasn't accomplished enough, apparently. So, of course, Hodgins teases him mercilessly. The victim's remains, meanwhile, show signs of physical abuse while her fancy watch stopped at 12:29 a.m. and shows a high heart rate before death.
Sweets interviews the woman's husband, a trauma surgeon named Burns. They've been separated for one year. "She had decided that I was, ah, stodgy," Burns says. "I don't beat up ex-wives." Booth and Bones head back to the crime scene and discover a roller derby rink next door. About two dozen skate around the track, throwing hips and elbows. The victim was on the team. A teammate named Susan and the coach, Nicky, says the team played just last night and is like a family. Another player, Ivana, has also gone missing.
Back the lab, Hodgins and Wendell theorize that the victim was beaten with a skate. The conversation turns to bucket lists -- it being Wendell's birthday and all -- and the intern accidentally lets it slip that he posed naked for artist Angela. Speaking of Angela, she goes to Camille and asks about Booth, who went to the hospital for reasons nobody seems to know. Camille then finds plenty of drugs in the victim's system. Booth brings in Ivana for questioning. "She lived a pretty wild life," says Ivana, who explains that the victim once had sex with a man on the lawn outside of her ex-husband's house. Ouch.
The team needs to get inside that rink, but who might fit in? Angela volunteers. Posing as "Smackie Kennedy," she heads to tryouts for the Dirty Dolls team. A montage of skating, hitting, and falling later, Smackie earns a spot on the roster. In the locker room, she starts examining skates with a black light looking for blood spatters. Unfortunately, there is blood on all the skates. It's a violent game, after all. Angela and Susan then go out for a drink. Booth arrives and Angela pretends their boyfriend and girlfriend. When Susan passes out from too many beers, Angela tells Booth that she has found out that Nicky was accused by the victim of skimming money from ticket sales.
Booth brings in Nicky for questioning. Nicky, in turn, accuses the victim of robbing the team. He then admits he was sleeping with the dead woman. They were at a bar a few nights before he death and ran into Burns. She threw a drink at her ex-husband after trying to make him jealous. Camille then heads to the hospital to inquire about Booth, but the doctor won't spill medical secrets. The doctor is a specialist who treats a genetic disorder that leads to brain tumors in children. Is Christine ill? Again, the doctor won't say.
Back at the lab, Wendell determines that the victim was carved up with a wood saw. Oddly, it also appears that the victim was given what appears to CPR after death. Bones determines that the chest compressions were performed to pump blood out of the severed arteries. Only a medical professional would know to do that. So, Booth brings in Burns for a few more questions. He denies any involvement in his ex-wife's death... and then requests a lawyer.
Back at the lab, Hodgins and Wendell find fluid on the victim's shirt consistent with eyeball material. So the dead woman was stabbed in the eyes. And additional materials reveal it was done with keys. Burns has no keys -- his house is equipped with touch pads -- so Booth and Bones go to the rink and collect keys from all the coach and all the ladies. Ivana's keys are a match. As a physical therapist, she knew a bit of anatomy. She killed her teammate for stealing from the team. Case closed. Later, Hodgins and Angela take Wendell out for drinks for his birthday. He brings the nude painting of himself... with boxer shorts drawn over his unmentionables. Everybody has a good laugh.
Later, it is revealed that Booth was at the hospital because he was organizing a carnival for all of the children with the genetic condition. So Christine isn't sick. Booth was just doing a good deed and didn't want anybody to know.

The Twist in the Plot
A tourist family zips through the...
more
A tourist family zips through the woods on Segways when mom takes a spill. She lands in the dirt and sits up with her face covered in bugs. Dad looks past to her to see a human skull looking up from the ground. There is screaming.
Back at Booth and Bones's house, Sweets finds out that Daisy is coming back to work at the Jeffersonian. He claims that it won't bother him. "Have you had sex with another woman yet?" Bones asks. The answer is, unfortunately, no. The team is then called to the woods, where Bones determines that the skull belongs to a woman in her early 30s. But what's this? Bones discovers a second body buried next to the first corpse.
The team then determines that the victim, Monica Craig, died of lung cancer and was buried without a coffin as part of a "green burial" movement with a claim to the wooded land. But that doesn't explain the second body. Sweets interviews the dead woman's husband, Dr. Craig. "Somebody used your wife's burial site to bury a body... a murder victim," he explains. Dr. Craig is distraught, and recognizes a facial reconstruction of the second victim as Rachel, Monica's "death consultant." "They were very close," Dr. Craig says.
Bones and Booth head to Green Pastures and meet the director, who is shocked to discover that fellow "end of life consultant" Rachel is dead. Crying, he explains that Rachel was his business partner and friend. Turns out Rachel often disappeared for weeks at a time on periods of self discovery, so she was never reported as missing. Back at the lab, Daisy is modeling her behavior after Bones by focusing on work and acting largely without emotion. "Wow," Hodgins comments. "You really have pulled yourself together."
Booth and Sweets then interview Mick Warren, a funeral home owner who sued Rachel for breach of contract after a proposed business alliance between the two fell apart. "I wanted to wipe her out... in court," says Mick, who explains that Rachel was sleeping with the Green Pastures director. Later, Sweets and Daisy meet in the lab. "How can I help you?" Daisy asks cooly before launching into shop talk. She refuses to get too personal.
Bones and Booth then revisit the director, who says he broke up with Rachel more than a year ago -- about the same time she suffered an injury to her face. Turns out that Rachel was a tantric sex master. "During one of our sessions, I fell... and my elbow hit her," the director says. He also explains that Rachel had a self-imposed rule of never spending more than three months with one man. "Best three months of my life," the director admits. Back at the lab, Daisy reveals that Monica, the first victim, did not die of cancer. Though she had cancer, it wasn't advanced enough to have killed her. So how did she die?
Hodgins and Angela determine that Rachel was killed with a blow from a handmade stone burial marker. And guess who makes the markers? Bones and Booth pay yet another visit to the Green Pastures' director. This time, the director is defiant and angry. He is tired of being accused of killing his ex. "Just to be on the safe side, I'm going to consult an attorney," he says. Hodgins, meanwhile, notices that the bugs found on Monica's body are obese. That's unusual because of protein receptors in the insects, so something must have interfered with their natural bodily functions. It could be a clue.
Sweets and Daisy meet at the diner. "I'm glad we're mature enough to have a cup of coffee together," Daisy says before beginning to warm up. She admits she woke up in the middle of the night recently and reached for Sweets, but he wasn't there. Daisy then says she is sort of seeing a pathologist. "It was a mistake, we don't belong together," Daisy tells her ex. It's not entirely convincing, nor is Sweets' fumbling agreement with her assessment.
Sweets then interviews Dr. Craig who has high praise for Rachel and few nice things to say about the director. Back at the lab, Hodgins determines that the insects were bigger than normal because of the presence of bath salts. Strange for a woman with cancer to be using recreational drugs. Sweets then notes that Dr. Craig used the substance to treat depression before it was banned. When confronted with this info, Dr. Craig admits that it was a mercy killing. "Monica begged me," he says. "She kept telling me if I loved her. I did not help her, but I didn't stop her." Sympathetic, Sweets tells Dr. Craig to go home.
Sweets shares the news with Booth, who has Dr. Craig's phone records. It turns out that Dr. Craig was calling Rachel, his wife's death assistant, every day -- multiple times a day -- for exactly three months. Sweets understands. It's the exact same amount of time that adventurous, spiritual Rachel would stay with any one man. So now Booth interrogates Dr. Craig, who admits that he was sleeping with Rachel but was suddenly "dumped" two days before Monica's death by suicide. When he was burying his wife, Rachel showed up to help and Dr. Craig lost it. He killed her with the burial marker. Case closed.
Later, Camille discovers Daisy crying in the lab. She admits that she is crying over Sweets. "You're grieving," Camille says. "You lost something wonderful, but keep moving forward. It will get better. I promise."

The Corpse on the Canopy
Hodgins is awoken by the sound of...
more
Hodgins is awoken by the sound of his crying baby. However, the room swims as if he is drugged. Blood drips on his face. Hodgins looks up... and sees what appears to be a skinned body hanging from a net. They race to the baby's room to find the child encircled in bloody flower petals. Angela screams.
Everybody safe, but scared. "Angela thinks Pelant is back," Bones tells Booth. The two go to Hodgins and Angela's home -- and discover the flowers are from Egypt, where Pelant last was. "No teams," Hodgins says. "No one can know about this but us." Booth disagrees. "We stay within the system," the FBI guy decides. Back at the lab, Camille discovers a pair of tiny, metal fragments in the victim's body and sends them to Hodgins for testing.
Sweets, meanwhile, discovers Pelant has wiped out his identity -- again -- so the team doesn't even have an official name with which to start. Flynn then enters and asks if the team is looking for Pelant. Sweets, Booth, and Caroline deny it. There can be no leaks this time.
Hodgins determines the metal fragments are shrapnel. Bones and Camille examine the body and theorize the victim found in Hodgins' house was a member of the special forces. Later, Flynn brings Booth top secret papers from the Pentagon and an offer to help. Booth accepts. They ID the body as one of the special forces members listed in the files. Booth and Sweets head to the victim's apartment and find a safe. Inside are weapons indicating the military man had become a mercenary for hire. "A target like this is a big risk for Pelant," Sweets notes. "He's escalating."
Booth and Flynn head to Serberus, the biggest supplier of mercenaries in the world. Molnor, who works for Serberus, tells the pair the company will not reveal its proprietary information about the victim or his missions. Hodgins, in the meantime, is acting manic. Sweets takes notices and brings his concerns to Camille, who refuses to take Hodgins off the case. "Pelant is scared of Jack Hodgins," she notes. "He wants him off the case." Later, Pelant calls Bones to taunt her -- and to also promise a forthcoming "hint." Sure enough, a young man in the mail room discovers a severed finger in a delivery for Bones.
Hodgins and Angela then biopsy their own lungs -- a painful procedure -- and discover a very rare gas. Only two companies provide such a gas. It turns out Hodgins' family owns both. "I'm going to take care of this myself," he says. Bones examines the severed finger and determines it once belonged to an ape -- a particular kind once studied by a 16th century anatomist. The team compares the skinned victim with one in the anatomist's ancient drawings. It's a match. "But what does it mean?" Camille asks.
Hodgins discovers a man calling himself Trimple bought the gas knocking out Hodgins and Angela in their home. But how to find this Trimple? Angela suggests "spamming him," a low tech approach that might just work because it's ancient. Basically, she sends out hundreds of spam email to Trimple's all over. When Pelant blocks the sender, the server from which he is working is revealed. And that server is inside Serebus. Pelant has reprogrammed the victim's keycard to get inside the security firm.
Booth asks for a full SWAT team to raid the Serebus building. Inside, Pelant sees the heavily armed force assembling outside. He looks worried. Back at the lab, Bones continues to examine the photo of the victim compared to the photo from the 16th century text book. She notices some of the muscles on the recent victim have been cut out. So Angela lays the recent photo over the old one and letters peak through the missing parts: M-E-L-Y-C-U. Or "lyceum," a school.
At Serebus, Booth leads the armed group inside and begins to search. Looking at video feed from the security monitors, he sees Pelant walking through doors and down hallways in six different locations. The hacker/killed is covering his tracks. Booth goes to Molnor and demands to know where the secret exit is located -- the one not in the blueprints. Molnor reveals the path. Booth and Flynn follow it. They spot Pelant and give chase into a small room. Running, Pelant hits a button on his tablet and, inside the small room, a panel drops and a machine gun appears. It riddles Flynn with bullets as Booth narrowly escapes. Booth then emerges into a parking garage to see Pelant driving away. Booth fires. Blood splatters, but the car doesn't stop.
Moments later, Flynn is taken away on a stretcher. Booth then tells Sweets about wounding Pelant. Meanwhile, a code has appeared on the Serebus screens. Booth recognizes them as a military coordinates. Turns out Pelant has programmed a drone carrying enough explosives to take out a city black. Angela types in "lyceum". Suddenly, the team can see where the drone is heading. It is targeting a school in the Middle East. A school for young girls.
The team works furiously to reroute the drone when Hodgins makes another shocking discovery. His bank accounts are being drained of money, but shutting down the server would mean the team loses contact with the drone. "Pelant is forcing me to choose: keep our money or save the girls," Hodgins explains. He quickly makes his decision. "Save the girls." With only seconds remaining before impact, Angela makes the drone self destruct.
The girls and the team is saved -- for now. Pelant is gone once again. Flynn, on the other hand, might not live. Pelant has been shot, though nobody knows the extent of the damage. The episode ends with Pelant inside a veterinary clinic. The doctor is dead. As the dogs bark, Pelant sews up his own face.

The Archaeologist in the Cocoon
A man in a parachute gets stuck in a...
more
A man in a parachute gets stuck in a tree following a sky dive. He finds himself face-to-face with a dead body in a giant cocoon. The man SCREAMS. Back at Bones and Booth's house, mom tries to encourage their daughter to play a game of peek-a-boo. Turns out another younger kid at daycare can play the game and Bones wants little Christine to keep up with the baby Joneses.
B&B head for the woods to investigate the "moth man." The truth is that the victim is a human man. Nearby is a wrecked car. Booth quickly determines that somebody pushed the bar, which hit a boulder, which catapulted the victim into the trees above. Bones cuts a small hole in the cocoon, unleashing a shower of giant bugs. They land of Bones's face, but she isn't at all bothered, of course.
Back at the lab, Hodgins estimates that the body was cocooned by the very worms that fell on Bones. The team also identifies the body as a prolific author of conspiracy books. Not only that, but the victim then sold bogus artifacts based on whatever he had written. Later, Booth and Sweets interview the victim's widow, a Russian woman named Marina. Turns out the victim recently brought something, another artifact, into the country -- a big one, too. Marina's brother comforts his weeping sibling, who is very pregnant.
Booth and Bones head to the victim's storage facility to investigate. They find lots of lots of human bones -- each one thousands of years old. Back at the lab, Clark takes the bones to his new office in the anthropology department. Bones is indignant. "I taught him!" she tells Camille. "I just hope I'm available when Dr. Edison needs help." Bones's ultra-competitive side, witnessed earlier with Christine's peek-a-boo game, is revealing itself. Booth points out this pattern of behavior to Bones and she does not take it particularly well.
The pair then head to the victim's publisher, who explains that he recently called and said he had found something of real scientific relevance (a rarity for the author). The publisher then explains that the author sold all of his phony artifacts to the same person -- a businessman in Texas. Sweets tracks the sales to a fundamentalist who funded the author's most recent trip to Russia. Back at the Jeffersonian, competitive Bones visits Clark, who explains that the bones indicate that Homo sapiens and Neanderthals were living together in the same cave using the same resources. Bones is skeptical, but intrigued.
She then notices that some of the remains indicate a spear wound. Explaining that a murder was committed -- albeit thousands of years ago -- Bones announces that the bones will thus be returned to her. Clark is agape. The pair appeals to Camille, who says Clark's department can keep the bones, but Bones can have access to them. "Drop the egos and figure out what happened to this poor caveman," she says. Now it's Bones's turn to appear shocked.
Elsewhere, Sweets questions the Texas businessman, Wilson, who believes that the Earth is 6,000 years old, according to the book of Genesis. Yet Wilson also bought a number of artifacts that were reportedly far older. "Do you destroy the artifacts that contradict your creationist views?" Sweets asks. Wilson admits as much. So Sweets theorizes that when the author actually found something of real value -- the old bones -- he refused to hand them over to the man who funded his trip. Wilson insists that the victim stole from him. And then Wilson stops talking and asks for a lawyer.
Clark, in the meantime, makes another potentially shocking discovery -- the homo sapien and the Neanderthal mated and had a child, whose physical makeup would seem to indicate as much. Bones then examines marks on the more recent victim's body and theorizes that, months before his death, the dead man was flogged with a leather whip. So Sweets interviews Marina again. She admits that her very traditional family was horrified when they learned she was pregnant with a foreigner's baby. Marina's father flogged the victim. Sweets wants to know if her father then followed the couple to America. Marina says "no" -- her family in Russia has basically disowned her.
Back at the lab, Bones begrudgingly congratulates her former pupil on his great discovery. It's progress. Bones then turns her attention to solving the 21st century murder. She discovers that a major artery was severed, causing the victim to lose consciousness in 30 seconds. And who has the training to deliver such a deadly blow? Turns out Marina's brother was special forces back in Russia. Nowadays, he bets on the horses. "You broke two weeks ago, then you got a transfer from a Russian bank for $20,000," Booth notes. Booth's theory: the father paid the son to kill the victim and regain their family's honor. Marina's brother goes silent. He will say no more.
Bones, in the meantime, looks again at the wound and notices that the sharpness of the cuts on the victim are consistent with bookend. So B&B head back to the publisher's office, and discover traces of blood on the floor. The publisher admits that she lost her cool when the author "cut me out of it" and insisted on publishing in a legitimate scientific journal. Later, Bones allows Clark to have his moment and reveal the historic finding. Booth is pleased... and a bit relieved. "I don't want to pass my failings onto Christine," mom says. She suggests Booth make a similar attempt. "What failings?" he asks.

The Diamond in the Rough
Sweets watches a ghost hunting...
more
Sweets watches a ghost hunting "reality" show on television when the host, Palmer, appears to discover an honest-to-ghoul apparition. Upon further inspection, it is a glittering skeleton, seemingly made of jewels. "What is that?!" Sweets yells at the screen. The next day, Bones and Angela eat the diner... and Angela expresses regret that she gave up on her art.
The team then examines the glittering remains. Hodgins determines that the woman, found in a quarry, has been covered in crystals due to water runoff. Unfortunately, determining cause of death will be impossible until all the crystals -- hundreds of them -- are removed. Bones examines the female victim's feet, which have multiple breaks and fractures. The good doctor theorizes that the injuries are consistent with an athlete, perhaps a dancer.
Sure enough, a young dancer recently went missing. Sweets interviews her dancing partner, Kendrick, who explains that the victim moved to this country from Germany to dance with him. He's just that good. Now that the victim is gone, however, Kendrick has already secured another partner for an upcoming tryout for a ballroom dancing TV show. Her name: Blossom. Later, Booth confesses to Sweets that he helped pay for college by being a dance instructor. Booth's mom taught him how to dance. It's what they did together.
So Sweets suggests that Booth and Bones go undercover as ballroom dancers, as he theorizes that the murderer killed off one-half of the competition's odds-on-favorite team. Bones is excited. Booth reluctantly agrees. So they head to the rehearsal hall, sign up and begin to practice while scouting the competition/potential suspects. Back at the lab, Wendell is struggling to remove the crystals from the victim's bones. He begs for Hodgins' help. So the pair soak the victim in ammonia and detergent.. and the solution successfully de-crystallizes the bones. Bones will be pleased.
But right now she is busy. Bones takes a break from dancing to chat with Laila, a young woman whose stage mom is very aggressive and very rude. Did mom do the deed? At the moment, she is the number one suspect. Bones then returns to the lab and learns that the victim's neck was twisted until it broke. Wendell also discovers heavy traces of lead. "In doses that indicate it could not have been accidental," the longtime intern explains. Sweets theorizes that the killer was inexperienced. He or she tried to slowly poison the victim, but eventually lost patience and did it a more violent way. Interesting.
Angela, growing more and more unhappy that she is not working in the arts, looks into the victim's email and finds that she made an appointment with a neurologist before her death. The poison was probably affecting her dancing. Sweets then informs Bones and Brennan that the lead was consistent with a paint commonly used in costumes. Of course, ALL the dancers have costumes. Bones clips a piece of Laila's costume and tests it in the dressing room. The result: huge traces of lead. Soon after, the competition starts and Laila dances wonderfully. Booth then flashes his badge and takes mother and daughter backstage. Laila claims that her mother is innocent. "I just wanted to get Catarina sick!" the young woman says. So she poisoned the victim.
But, as we know, the poison didn't kill the victim. So who broke her neck? Booth theorizes that it must have been the boyfriend that Laila also confesses that she loves -- a low level TV show assistant named Jimmy. When approached, Jimmy makes a run for it. The chase heads backstage until Booth, Bones and Jimmy run onto the stage during Kendrick's performance. Booth knocks out Jimmy with a right hook. Later, Jimmy explains that he wanted Laila to win so she could be free of her mother. "I did it for us!" Jimmy yells. Case closed, but not the episode. Bones and Booth are called to dance.
Back at the lab, Angela tells Hodgins that she is tired of so much "ugliness" in her life. Hodgins talks to Camille and Camille volunteers to cut Angela's hours. "A little of you is better than a lot of unhappiness," Camille explains. Angela is grateful. Now she will have plenty of time for her art. The episode closes as "Wanda" and "Buck" (Booth and Brennan) waltz. Bones is absolutely terrible, but clearly very happy. So all is well.

The Ghost in the Machine
Everything we see is from the...
more
Everything we see is from the perspective of the victim, who may or may not be a ghost. Hodgins examines a skull covered in wasps. Bones and Booth argue over whether the skull belongs to a man or a woman. Bones would rather not hazard a guess. "I can be more definite about age -- pubescent," she says. "Thirteen or fourteen." The news depresses both Booth and Hodgins. The body is taken to the Jeffersonian. Avalon, a quirky psychic, is brought into the lab -- much to Hodgin's chagrin. "He's listening," Avalon says of the victim. "He's got unfinished business." Hodgins then finds a wasps nest in the skull, which might yield clues. Angela then takes the skull to her office and begins to talk to it. "If Avalon says it, I believe you're here," she says before beginning the digital reconstruction of the victim's face. Hodgins uses the wasps nest to theorize that the time of death was almost two years ago.The facial reconstruction along with the time of the death reveals a result: a 14-year-old boy named Colin. In a rare display of emotion, Bones begins to cry. Booth comforts his partner and wife. Later, Hodgins discovers the species of wasp did not burrow, meaning the body was moved and placed above ground where it was found in a greenhouse. But why move the body?Colin's parents then visit the lab. They weep as they look at the their sons remains. Bones gently explains that the injuries indicate the boy would have died instantaneously. The parents say Colin was a sports nut with no problems with anyone at school. "Everyone liked him," the mom cries. Later, Bones speaks to the victim, saying the instantaneous death was a kind lie told to make his parents feel better. She also theorizes that the boy was running at a high rate of speed when he fell forward. Sweets then introduces Miranda and Shawn, friends of Colin from high school. They hand over Colin's skateboard and a CD left in Miranda's locker by Colin, who apparently loved music. "I didn't have the heart to listen to it after he went missing," Miranda says.Hodgins then finds paint chips on the bones -- and matches them to a number of different models. Avalon reappears and Hodgins grudgingly allows the woman to talk to the remains. "Your death is a tragedy because you were going to make the world a better place -- and that's the way it should be," she says. "I don't understand. But I will." Later, Bones examines the possible car models. Booth informs her that one of those models matches a car owned by Colin's dad. Sweets, who has listened to the CD, theorizes that Colin was in love with Miranda, who was three years his senior. Was Shawn jealous perhaps?Bones then decides to take home Colin's skull. She stays up late talking to it and listening to the mix CD. "I find your musical taste eclectic," she says. Booth, who holds their baby, explains how he questioned Colin's father and doesn't believe that dad is responsible. Bones then has a epiphany. The discolored areas on the victim's skull could have been caused by exposure to a certain light pattern over time. Later, Booth and Bones take the skull to a location that matches plant materials found on the remains. They find a pump house with the matching light pattern cut in the walls. "Colin's body was dumped here after he was murdered," says Booth, who discovers a hood ornament.Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela recreates the death blow from the car on her computer. After running through numerous scenarios, the group theorizes that Colin was surfing on the hood of his father's borrowed car. "The driver probably panicked and hid the body," Camille says. Bones looks at the victim. "You made a foolish decision," she says. "I just wish it hadn't killed you." Booth, Bones, and Sweets bring in Colin's friends: Miranda, Shawn, and Carl. Sweets explains that the body was hidden twice -- in the pump house and in the greenhouse. "It happened just like you said," Shawn admits. "I was driving."Shawn and Carl admit to collaborating to try to hide their terrible mistake. Miranda is angry and sad as she had nothing to do with it. The case is solved, but Avalon insists that Colin is still "here." "Dying is not what made him sad," the psychic explains. So what is he sad about? Bones finds a loud noise at the end of the CD he made for Miranda. When played on a different machine, it reveals a video from Colin professing his love for Miranda. "I believe this might be the answer," Angela says. The team shows the video to Miranda. The girl cries -- and we watch as Colin's spirit leaves the skull and disappears.

The But in the Joke
A vandal/artist goes to work on a...
more
A vandal/artist goes to work on a high billboard before slipping and plummeting to the ground. A few hours later, Bones and Booth stand over the young man, who refuses to give his real name. When they lift him off the ground, it becomes apparent that the man has fallen into human remains. The adhesive that the man uses means that a decomposed skeleton has been glued to him. "There's a dead dude stuck to my back?" the man yells. Exactly.Back at the Jeffersonian, the complaining vandal lies on a lab table. Angela enters and recognizes the vandal's artwork. "You're Zed?!" she asks. Apparently, Zed is an elusive and mysterious street artist. Later, Bones and Booth interview Denny, a manager of a telecom company who recently reported his heir apparent at work, Morgan, missing. Turns out that the victim is this Morgan. "He could sell anything," Denny says. Denny also says that Morgan's girlfriend had recently accused him of cheating.Hodgins and Fisher smear peanut butter on the Zed-Morgan sandwich to begin the process off separating the two. Angela gets the drugged Zed to admit that he is the famous street artist. She is star struck and impulsively kisses Zed. Bones and Booth, in the meantime, head out to interview the victim's girlfriend, Alexa. The young woman lives with her brother, Elliot. When B&B tell the pair that Morgan is dead, they break out into a fit of laughter.Back at the Jeffersonian, Zed is finally separated from Morgan and reveals to Hodgins that Angela kissed him. Sweets then brings Alexa in to question her. "I'm not a psycho!" the girl says. She laughed because she thought it was just another one of Morgan's practical jokes. Turns out the telemarketer by day was a comedian by night. When Alexa hears that Morgan was found with a joke arrow -- a la Steve Martin -- through his head, she suggests looking for whomever put it there. Morgan, she says, was a "cerebral" comic.Later, Bones theorizes that the victim was struck in the face multiple times with a blunt object. Angela then finds Zed in her office, admiring her paintings. "Your husband was peeved that you kissed me," he says before suggesting that Angela might have been an artist had she not gotten married and moved to the suburbs. He also confesses that Angela is the only one in the world who knows his real identity. Questioning her life decisions, she agrees to keep his secret.Bones and Sweets then interview Elliot, who reveals that Morgan had a regular heckler named Larry. Larry is another comic who hated Morgan. So B&B head to the local comedy club to interview Larry, who claims that the heckler-comic relationship was a routine. Larry, in fact, says he wrote most of the jokes. Bones then spots a flier that shows a comedian named Rex with a fake arrow through his head. Now that Morgan is dead, Rex will inherent the prime Friday night time slot. "That's got to make you suspicious," Larry says.Rex explains that Morgan probably stole his arrow. Why? Because Morgan apparently stole everything. "Jokes, props, women," Rex explains. Rex's giant mallet then tests positive for blood. Uh oh. Later, Hodgins asks Angela why she kissed Zed. "I kissed him because he's a great artist and his art is changing the world," she explains. Angela is clearly sad about something. Sweets approaches Booth with a plan to get to the bottom of the claim that Morgan stole jokes. Booth will go to open mic night and mix new jokes in with stolen ones -- and Sweets will watch the crowd to see who reacts.Hodgins enters the lab with news: what tested positive as blood is actually from turnip juice. So Rex is cleared. At the comedy club, Booth awkwardly takes the stage and soon goes off script. He begins telling jokes about shooting suspects and gets big laughs. When he tells the stolen jokes, a woman stands up in the crowd and accuses Booth of stealing. Booth later questions the woman, Annie, who says Morgan bought her jokes. So Morgan's death hurt her career? "For real. He had bookings -- TV shows, clubs," she explains.Back at the lab, Angela reconstructs the skull and discovers three distinct blows. Hodgins then entires and says the remains had urine residue. They put two and two together and theorize that the victim's face was slammed three times into a toilet seat. So Hodgins is charged with examining every toilet seat that Morgan used regularly. It's a dirty job and Hodgins is happy to do it. He finds a bone fragment on the toilet in Alexa's apartment. But Alexa already has an alibi, so Elliot is brought in for questioning. Turns out that Elliot became very angry when Morgan told him he was going to dump Alexa (and Elliot) and move to New York. "I did what I did and wrapped him up in a shower curtain," Elliot confesses. Case closed, but not the episode.Angela and Hodgins then spot Zed on a nearby street. Angela has painted something on the wall and they watch as Zed stops to admire it. When confronted, Zed compliments Angela on her work -- especially because the technique is suitably non-conformist. She is thrilled. Hodgins is proud.

The Method in the Madness

more
A pair of garbagemen go about their business when one recycle bin reveals a rotting corpse. Back at FBI headquarters, Sweets is sleeping on the couch in his office after having recently broken up with Daisy. "Why don't you come and stay at our house for a night or two," Booth says reluctantly. Sweets agrees. The two then head to the scene of the crime, where the team examines the remains. Bones determines the victim was a female in her 20s. Hodgins determines, based on larvae, that she has been dead for about 36 hours. At the lab, Camille determines that the poor woman was eviscerated and flayed while alive. She then suggests that Angela reconstruct the victim's face using her actual face, which lays in pieces on the table. Gross. Later, Hodgins starts a pool betting how long Sweets will last in B&B's house. Camille gives it four days. Angela says a month or even much longer. She then scans the pieces of skin and reconstructs them in the computer. Hodgins recognizes the face. "Someone killed the Them Apples applesauce woman," he says. Booth and Bones head to the small applesauce business to interview the victim's partner, Brooke. She explains that her dead partner had Lupus and was last seen at the free clinic. Brooke then mentions that a nearby butcher named Adam had been acting kind of "stalkery" lately. So Booth and Bones go to meet the butcher, who is an angry hipster artisan with a lot of large knives. He explains that he had been flirting with the victim, but stopped when a large man came into the store and threatened to hurt him if he didn't back off. Back at the lab, Camille reveals that the victim didn't have Lupus, after all. She was also found with a wad of cash on her. "Was she selling pills?" Hodgins wonders. At B&B's house, Sweets is folding the laundry (including Booth's Captain America undies) when the FBI agent returns home and demands that Sweets come with him to interview Dr. Reese, who worked at the free clinic. He reluctantly explains that the victim came to the clinic each month to be tested for STDs. That, combined with the cash, leads Sweets and Booth to theorize that she was paying for her small business by prostituting herself on the side. At the lab, Colin, the resident expert on serial killers, has a theory: the murderer is imitating Jack the Ripper. He even finds a micro-fracture that is inconsistent with the rest of the deep blade wounds. Interesting. Back at B&B's house, Sweets is now using Booth's bathtub. The agent is annoyed. There is a knock on the door and Colin enters to show Bones the micro-fractures. "She was restrained," Bones says. It's looking like torture. At the lab, Camille finds a strange combination of alcohol in the victim's stomach. Hodgins identifies the ingredients as a old-timey kind of gin that also happens to be sold in another artisan shop near the victim's applesauce store. And who owns the store? Dr. Reese. So Bones and Booth look up the doc's record -- and it shows a few hits for solicitation. Bones notes that one of the most popular theories for the identity of Jack the Ripper was a doctor. B&B head to the liquor store and discover Reese, dressed up like Jack and holding a knife, hovering a scantily clad woman tied to a bed. "Drop it!" Booth yells. Later, Reese explains that it was all "harmless role playing." He had hired the girl. The bad doctor then explains that he paid the victim to do something similar and, because she was nervous about been tied up, gave her some gin. But Reese insists that he didn't kill anybody. In fact, he had let the victim out of her handcuffs when a "250-pound behemoth" kicked in the door and threw him into a closet. The next day, Sweets apologizes to Booth for taking advantage of his hospitality. "I'm looking for an apartment," Sweets says. The team examines security cameras near the applesauce place and soon spot a giant man lurking near the victim's house. The man, Willis, is soon brought in for questioning. "I did not kill Jess," he tells Booth. "That girl meant the world to me." Turns out that Willis was best friend's with the victim's father and acted as an uncle to the girl. He practically raised her -- and was just trying to protect her. Willis, a banker, promised that he could get investors for the applesauce company so his "niece" could stop prostituting herself. At the lab, Bones decides that the wounds on the body are just too precise to have been inflicted by a human. It must have been a machine. Bones and Booth head to the applesauce store and find Brooke making the good stuff. Bones spots a huge blender used to cut spices that would have done the job. Brooke breaks down and admits that she shoved her business partner after the victim said she was going sell out to her uncle. The victim accidentally fell into the blender and was killed. Then, Jessica tried to hide her crime in the garbage. Case closed, but not the episode. Booth and Bones relax on the couch after putting the baby to sleep. Sweets then enters and announces he has packed his bags and is ready to leave. Bones then invites Sweets to "celebrate" as the final part of his purging ritual after a break up. So she turns on music and begins to "dance" (awfully). Sweets follows suit. "I feel so at home right now!" he declares. Booth grimaces.

The Tiger in the Tale

more
A husband and wife have run off the road and their car is stuck in the mud. They argue as the husband pushes on the back of the car and the wife revs the engine. Suddenly, the spinning wheels spit out something red and goopy. The wife gets out of the car and screams -- there is a face stuck to hubby's shirt. Booth and Bones talk politics at the breakfast table. Bones is making a list of why she would be a good presidential candidate. She considers it everyone's responsibility to figure out how they can best serve the public. They get a call. Bones has a chance to serve by doing what she does best: solving a murder. At the scene, Bones IDs the messy remains as a male while Hodgins vacuums up bugs crawling on the body. The husband, sitting nearby, then throws up the victim's tooth, which was shot into his mouth by the spinning wheels. Yuck. Back at the lab, Hodgins finds newspaper shoved in the man's boots. So he was wearing shoes that didn't fit him. He also had horrible teeth. Hodgins discovers from the bugs that time of death was about five days prior. At the diner, Sweets hands Daisy her keys. The two officially live together now. Later, Hodgins finds small pieces of rare Venetian glass wedged in the dead man's boots. He traces them to the local fairgrounds, where an antique show was recently held. B&B head to the fairgrounds and find a man, Juan, picking from a crowd of workers desperate for cleaning jobs. B&B interview Juan, who believes that he recognizes Angela's facial reconstruction of the victim as a day laborer named Jared. Later, research shows that the victim's ex wife filed a restraining order against Jared two days before he died. Also, Jared was a formerly successful businessman who recently lost everything. Daisy, meanwhile, has reconstructed the victim's face and discovered a bullet hole in his head. That hole does not match the bullet holes found in the hands. "Two guns," Bones says. "We're likely looking for two killers." Perhaps only coincidentally, Sweets interviews the victim's wife, Marcy, and her new boyfriend, Mike -- who explain that Jared was constantly coming around and asking Marcy to dump Mike and come back to her. Mike calls Jared a "loser," but Marcy tearfully refers to her ex as "a good man." Both demand a lawyer. Camille then finds remnants of exotic animals on the victim and determines that his last job was at a local pet expo. So B&B bring in the pet expo owner, Eric, who says he never met the victim. B&B then question the man's line of work, but Eric pushes back, explaining that everything he does, including selling lions and tigers, is perfectly legal. At the diner, Angela eats with Sweets, who admits that he is a "little nervous" about moving in with Daisy. "It's a minor commitment," he says. Angela suggests that what he sees as minor, Daisy might see as the beginning of a new life together. Sweets grimaces. Back at the lab, Hodgins discovers even more evidence on the victim: a purebred Siberian tiger slashed him. He also notes that buying or selling one of those animals would be a felony. Camille also has news. She figures that Jared was shot in the hand with a hollow point bullet and it expanded before entering and exiting his face. Thus: "One bullet, one shooter." Later, Sweets and Booth theorize that the victim was selling a Siberian tiger when he was slashed. They decide to start looking for farms around the area where the body was found that might be housing an illegal tiger. First, however, Sweets interviews the exotic pet expo owner. Eric agrees to take the names of potential Siberian tiger buyers home to see if any look suspicious. Angela, in the meantime, decides to look at satellite images of the farms, but the images are a year old. So, Hodgins breaks out his WWII model plane equipped with a camera and flies it over the farms. Watching the images back at the lab, Camille and Angela spot zebras, camels and more. So B&B head to the farm in question -- and find, half buried in the woods, the Siberian tiger carcass. The farm's owner is defensive at first, but then admits that he had to kill the creature because it was "out of control." Bones, who doesn't like zoos, is furious. She is held back by Booth and then begins to cry. Back at Booth's office, Bones declares that killing tigers will warrant the death penalty when she becomes president. They then interview the farm owner, who denies killing Jared after the man sold him the tiger. The farm owner then explains that someone was with Jared that night. He also tells B&B that he bought the tiger online and was instructed to bring the money to a man named Juan at the fairgrounds. B&B head back to the fairgrounds and Juan admits to taking delivery of the envelope, but claims he had no idea it was for the purchase of a tiger. So who did he give the money to? Eric. B&B bring in Eric, who is clearly sick. Bones theorizes that it was be from the blowback when he shot Jared, who had blood poisoning from being slashed by the tiger. Sure enough, they find a sliver of bone fragment in the man's shooting hand. Case closed, but not the episode. Sweets returns to his new apartment to find Daisy waiting on the stoop. A very sad Sweets tells Daisy that he can't move in with her. "I misconstrued the significance," he says through tears. "I'm so sorry ... We're breaking up." Daisy watches him go.

The Gunk in the Garage
A man walks through a dark parking...
more
A man walks through a dark parking garage to find a Big Gulp sitting on his car. He reaches for it -- and it EXPLODES in flames. Bones and Booth, meanwhile, argue about buying an expensive stroller. "You're too sensitive," Bones says. "It's just money." Booth is indeed sensitive -- because he isn't the earner that his wife is. Bones is then called to the parking garage, where the victim's stomach and intestines falls from the ceiling onto Hodgins's face. Back at the lab, Hodgins has cleaned himself up and determines from a piece of plastic that the bomb was hidden inside a convenience store cup. Caroline then summons Booth to her office to discuss his department's expenses. They're apparently the highest in the FBI. Booth will have to argue his case in front of Caroline's bosses. If he does well, a promotion is possible. A promotion with a hefty raise. Booth, perhaps thinking of the stroller, is intrigued. Sweets, in the meantime, has been paired with a very young and very aggressive agent named Olivia. They head to the parking garage hotel to ask for security tape. Olivia ends up arresting a security guard, Franklin, who won't immediately hand over the tapes. Sweets is annoyed with Olivia. Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela has reconstructed the victim's face and made a positive ID. So Sweets and Olivia head to the suburbs to interview the victim's wife. She is shocked and horrified to discover that her husband has been found dead. Sweets is then shocked and horrified when the husband walks around the corner and waves at his wife. What the heck!? Sweets calls Booth, who is trying to navigate the bureaucracy of his office. Frustrated, Booth urges Sweets to take control of the case -- and try not to be intimidated by the rookie agent who doesn't trust psychologists. Bones then discovers that the victim was the identical twin of the suburban man, Robert. Sweets interviews Robert, who was adopted and never knew he had a twin. Robert is hesitant to talk without approval from his domineering wife. Sweets believes that they can ID the victim by searching for people with similar traits as the dead twin, arguing that their natures would be very similar despite never having known one another. Olivia is overtly skeptical, but Angela uses Robert's history to narrow down the field of likely people -- finally using a visual search to come up with a name: Jerry. Victim identified. Olivia is impressed. Later, she apologizes to Sweets for her earlier behavior. So Sweets and Olivia head back to the suburbs to break the bad news to Jerry's wife, Lisa. She is not at all surprised. "Son of a bitch gambled away everything we had -- and then some," Lisa says. She then admits to having a history of violence herself. Sweets, emboldened by Olivia's recent turnaround, sternly tells the woman not to leave town like a shorter, geekier Booth. Hodgins then runs the test explosion in a lab while Angela traces the residue of the bomb to a company in town that produced the materials. Bones and Hodgins visit the construction company. The interview the foreman, Steve, who explains that the material was recently stolen. Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela searches the security footage from the hotel parking garage -- and discovers both Robert and Jerry. It soon becomes clear that both men were attending a New Age seminar. Angela then takes time out of her work to tease Sweets about his not-so-subtle interest in Olivia. Sweets becomes flustered, swearing he only has eyes for Daisy. Later, Robert is brought back in for further questioning. The man admits to lying because his wife hates his involvement in a self-actualization cult. Robert is surprised that his twin was there, too. He also admits that he had planned to give the group (cult) everything he owned because, "you can't put a price on actualization." Camille then finds hair in some of the bodily remains that doesn't belong to the victim. So there was a witness -- and possibly the person who planted the bomb. Booth, who is at his wits end, then pleads for budget presentation help from Camille. He doesn't seem quite fit for office work. At the same time, Sweets and Olivia bring in Robert's wife for questioning. Her computer history is apparently filled with searches for contract killers. "Robert wanted to give that stupid cult everything!" she says. She admits to hiring someone -- she doesn't know the name -- but the killer accidentally incinerated the twin. She then says that the killer plans to try again to kill Robert ... today. Sweets goes to Booth, who happily dumps the budget presentation on Camille. He grabs his gun and follows Sweets and Olivia to a busy plaza where the wife suspects Robert to be. Bones calls and tells the gang to look for someone who would be off balance due to banging his head -- and losing a chunk of hair in the process -- during the explosion. It is soon revealed to be Steve, the construction foreman. Booth spots the man, who carries a Big Gulp. Sweets pretends to be a frightened bystander, backs up toward Steve -- and grabs the drink. Olivia then opens fire and Steve goes down in the heap. Case closed. But not the episode. Later, Sweets explains to Olivia that he likes her -- a lot -- but he is dating someone. Olivia understands and says goodbye to her temporary partner with a lingering kiss. Love triangle commence. Back at the FBI office, Caroline explains that Booth isn't getting the promotion after missing the budget presentation meeting. He isn't terribly concerned.

more
Two homeless men argue economics before discovering human remains burning in a trash can. Bones, meanwhile, makes breakfast for Booth, explaining that she worked as a fry cook while being on the run. The pair tries to kiss, but bump heads. Things are clearly awkward between the two. Luckily, murder intrudes. Bones and Booth get called to the scene of the crime. Bones immediately determines the victim is a caucasian male. She then discovers melted metal on the remains. Soon, B&B begin to bicker. Hodgins and Camille watch the awkward scene. What's wrong with our heroes? Back at the Jeffersonian, Camille and Finn examine the badly burned body. Finn determines the victim was beaten "like a rented mule." Camille then discovers that the victim had heart surgery. They could ID the body through the stints. Booth and Sweets then have a heart to heart. Booth admits he is angry -- about Bones leaving and she dared to cooked breakfast, which is his job. Later, B&B identify the victim as a divorce lawyer for rich folks. They interview the man's wife, who admits that she came into much money following his death. "Richard was ruthless ... he would do anything to win," the wife explains. In other words, lots of people had motive to get rid of the man. Angela and Hodgins then remove the burned metal from the body and discover the "nub" of a fountain pen. So was the victim stabbed with a writing utensil? B&B, who continue to bicker, then visit the victim's assistant, Margo. Before meeting Margo, they run into the construction foreman working on the office. The harried man admits that the victim's had threatened to sue him. In the office of the pretty young woman, they find evidence of blood. Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela complains about trying to piece back together 4,000 tiny pieces of shredded paper that were confiscated from the lawyer's office. Angela then asks Bones about tensions with Booth. "I was gone and now I'm back," a defensive Bones says. "I'm still the same person that I was." Angela, of course, doesn't believe it -- saying life on the lam would change anybody. Sweets then finds a former case tried by the victim that shows promise. A woman whose husband was being defended by the murdered man threatened him on a voice mail. She also has a history of violent behavior. B&B head out to investigate the couple: Melanie and Gavin, an architect. Turns out the lawyer had a meeting with the pair on the night he was killed. B&B soon find out that Melanie and Gavin are back together, and seemingly stronger than ever. "We're going to have a baby," Melanie explains. They're also building a new house -- and show B&B a small model of the house and grounds. Back at the Jeffersonian, Hodgins has examined the contents of the victim's stomach and discovered that his last meal was a "rat burger." A very well built and seasoned one, but rat all the same. Moments later, Sweets brings in a chef who was represented by the victim. Rare ingredients in the meal match the rat burger to the man's kitchen. The chef is unrepentant, explaining that the lawyer's bills were so high that they almost sunk him. He then admits to serving the man rat, but vehemently denies killing the victim. Later, Hodgins finds a fingernail in the victim's remains while Angela reassembles the shredded documents and finds a photo of the victim's wife cheating on him ... with Margo the assistant. Margo is soon brought in for questioning and shown the incriminating photo. "Pamela and I are in love," she says. "We don't care about the money." Margo then explains that the victim, Richard, obtained the photo and promised to ruin Pamela. She admits to shredding the photo after Richard was murdered, but not planning to murder Richard. Sweets then reveals that the wife, Pamela, has apparently fled. Back at the Jeffersonian, Finn determines that the victim's femurs were pushed upward, suggesting a fall. B&B then take a drive and get into a fight. Bones keeps talking about events that happened with their daughter while she was on the road. Booth feels shut out. "I'm not going to fight," Bones says coldly. "We'll talk when you're capable of being rational." But Booth won't let her hide behind "that big brain of yours." They yell at each other all the way back to Richard's office, which is under construction. They find a garbage chute filled with blood and tissue. "This is where he died," Bones says. Back at the Jeffersonian, B&B apologize to each other, but all is still not back to normal. But before they can make up completely, Finn interrupts with the victim's bones. The bones contain a substance used by architects to build models. And who do we know is an architect? Gavin, the husband who recently welcomed wife Melanie back into his life. So the couple is brought in for questioning. Their story quickly unravels. It soon becomes clear the attorney was stabbed with a pen by Melanie. Gavin then shoved the body into the chute and set the body on fire. "I just don't understand how two people like you got married in the first place," Bones observes. That strikes a nerve with Booth, who is very conscious of the fact that he isn't married to Bones. So case closed, but not the episode. Later that night, Booth drinks alone in the couple's apartment. Bones admits that "something is wrong with me." Turns out Bones went to Sweets, who explained that Bones is upset that her happiness is now contingent on someone else's happiness. Booth then admits that he is mad at having lost three months with his child and the child's mother. They kiss and make up -- and then make out.

The Future in the Past

more
THREE MONTHS LATER. Bones, now a blonde, is still hiding from prosecution for a crime she didn't commit. She has a picnic with Max and Christine -- and shows the little girl pictures of her FBI daddy. Back at the lab, Angela works furiously to figure out how Pelant inserted Bones into security footage at the scene of Sawyer's murder. Hodgins urges his wife to take a break. She has apparently at it for months. Booth, meanwhile, is equally as frustrated because Agent Flynn doesn't believe him about Pelant. Back at the lab, Clark has taken over Bones's office -- much to Angela's chagrin. Clark wants all case info put into binders. Not too surprisingly, Clark is a classic bureaucrat. Booth, in the meantime, heads to the local library where he finds Pelant teaching a computer class. Booth just smiles at the nervous hacker. Pelant promptly calls Flynn and reports stalking and harassing. Moments later, the Jeffersonian team is called to a odd crime scene. The skeletal remains have already been dug up and brushed -- just like a certain anthropologist might've done. Bones has clearly left her team a clue! She also left behind a flower that only blooms in winter. Back at the lab, Clark identifies the remains as a woman who has never given birth, so the team confirms that the body isn't Bones. Later, it becomes clear that Angela has been secretly communicating with Bones, but she refuses to divulge details to an angry Booth. "I'm sorry," she says. "I'll tell her that you love her -- like I always do." Turns out the remains belong to a guidance counselor who went missing 10 years ago. And who went to high school with her? Pelant. Speak of the devil, Pelant watches TV and sees the Jeffersonian team investigating the decade-old crime scene. He seems especially disturbed to see Angela holding the flower. But why? Booth, meanwhile, goes to a motel when someone knocks on the door. It's Bones! Later, the two catch up and Booth happily plays with his daughter. Bones explains that she and Max have spent the last few months investigating Pelant's past. Back at the lab, Hodgins discovers traces of a rock in the victim's skull while Angela tells Caroline that she can prove someone -- but not necessarily Pelant -- forged her electronic signature. In other words, Caroline will soon be off suspension. Sweets then examines a letter of recommendation that the guidance counselor wrote for Pelant and compares it to articles the young hacker wrote for the school newspaper. The writing styles are the same. Thus, Pelant wrote the letter of recommendation in the counselor's name and then covered his tracks by killing her. Cold. Back at the lab, Angela asks Hodgins to put flowers in a certain spot. He knows it's her way of communicating with Bones, but doesn't press his wife. Hodgins heads to a graveyard to deliver the flowers and finds Pelant waiting. "Brilliant," Pelant says of the flowers scheme. He recites Hodgins FBI files, saying Hodgins is "too nice" to hurt him. Hodgins angrily throttles the criminal, but eventually lives up to the profile and lets go. Hodgins heads back to the lab and confesses to Sweets that he strangled Pelant to the point of unconsciousness. "Pelant wanted me to kill him!" Hodgins says. "He was staring in my face and what I read there was 'Do it.'" Sweets, though horrified with his coworker, admits that Pelant's apparent death wish is a very valuable piece of information. Back at the Bones's hideout, Max takes Booth's car, which belongs to Clark, and tells Booth to escape with Bones's in Max's car, which was stolen. Max then says that Pelant has likely traced Booth's car and will follow it. And then, Max says, he is going to kill Pelant. So after Max drives off, Booth calls Flynn and reports the car as being driven by Bones. He wants to save Max from making a terrible mistake. Later, Hodgins tells Camille to leave the lab ... and take the security guards with her. She doesn't ask questions and does just that. Moments later, Bones and Booth appear. After a tearful reunion with Angela, Bones gets to work examining the guidance counselor's body. She quickly determines that the woman was hung upside down and bled out. She must have been running through the woods when she was snagged in a Pelant trap, hitting her head on the rock as she was dragged up. "God, we missed you," Hodgins says. Angela then hands Booth a flash drive with evidence that Pelant hacked into FBI email files, a violation of the criminal's parole. Booth takes the drive directly to Flynn, who agrees to bring in Pelant. Speak of the devil, Pelant is teaching his computer class when Booth bursts in and arrests the creep. Back at the lab, Bones, Angela and Sweets examine the triangle of code that was on Sawyer's wall. Sweets observes that Pelant wouldn't have killed Sawyer if what was embedded in that code didn't scare him. Sweets posits that the base represents the face Pelant shows to the world; the left side represents his hidden, killer face; and the right side shows that he wants to be killed. Suddenly, Angela's face goes blank. "That's her thinking face," Bones explains. In the meantime, Bones discovers that the murder weapon was probably a Japanese sword -- helped by physical evidence and the fact that Pelant's grandfather fought in World War II. So the team gets a warrant to search the Pelant family home and finds a sword. It matches the wound and Pelant is taken to prison. He smiles as he is being led behind bars. "I'd be more satisfied if he were dead," Max tells Booth. "This guy Pelant. He needs killing." Angela, meanwhile, cracks the code -- and it proves Bones was digitally inserted into the video feed outside the mental hospital where Sawyer was killed. So Bones is cleared and can a). go back home and b). go back to work. Camille then announces that Clark will be hired to do archeological work -- his forte. So, basically, everybody is happy. Booth and Bones make out. But it's not over yet. A few days later, Caroline has terrible news: Pelant isn't Pelant. He is apparently an Egyptian and the Egyptian government has arrived to take him back home. It becomes clear that Pelant completely wiped out his identify and created a new and entirely convicing one wholesale. Pelant smiles and hands Bones a marigold, which means "pain and grielf." She smacks him across the face. Booth then throws out the flower ... but it is picked out of the trash by Flynn. Hmmm.

The Past in the Present
We open at a parole hearing where...
more
We open at a parole hearing where Caroline's blood is up. Turns out computer hacker and likely murderer Pelant might soon have his ankle bracelet turned off. Bones and Booth are in the audience and provide grisly pictures of crimes in which Pelant is THE "person of interest." As the parole board delays Pelant's release until they can review the case files, Bones' and Booth's cell phones begin to ring. Their ring tones have been changed to the eery howls of wolves. Could it have been Pelant, who turns and smiles? Later, the team arrives a national park where a couple got lost after their "GPS reversed direction" (hmmm) and found more grisly remains. The victim, male, has been feast for the animals -- a pack of wolves. Bones then recognizes a broken bone. It's one she once reset. "It's Ethan Sawyer. Pelant killed my friend!" Bones says. Again, Booth's cell phone rings. More howls. Later, Sweets and Booths discuss Sawyer, who went to grad school with Bones and became a brilliant doctor before being committed to a mental institution. Back at the lab, Camille notes that the victim was still alive when he was eaten by wolves. Bones then admits that she was secretly consulting with the victim, a paranoid schizophrenic, on the Pelant case. Booth is upset. B&B then watch video at the mental institution -- from which Sawyer mysteriously disappeared after a "computer glitch." It turns out that Sawyer was very sick and believed the baby Bones was carrying at the time to be the devil. Booth is horrified to find out that Sawyer threatened his daughter. Later, Angela watches a security feed from the mental institution and it shows Bones leaving the building the night before Sawyer escaped. But that's impossible, Bones protests -- she was last there two weeks before the disappearance. Still, the time stamp on the video feed doesn't lie. Or was it hacked by Pelant?"You're going to need an alibi for this night," says a worried Angela, noting that Bones has a motive in that Sawyer wanted to kill her child. Back at the Jeffersonian, Camille discovers what appears to be a needle mark in one of the victim's bones. Wendell is shocked that Bones didn't see it during her initial examination. At B&B's house, the new parents argue over whether they should change their lives and plans due to the threat from Pelant. They decide to stand firm and be very careful, but refuse to be intimidated. Cue a montage of Bones examining the victim and Pelant building a device of some kind. Bones admits to Wendell that she missed the needle mark -- and that she doesn't want to miss anything else. Sure enough, she discovers cuts on the victim's skulls. Hodgins then reports that he found traces of a powerful drug in the needle mark. He tells the rest of the team -- but not Bones or Booth -- that the drug, used to knock people out, comes from a rare plant that Bones just recently asked to borrow from him. Could Bones actually be the killer? Angela is so upset that she runs to Booth to warn him. "She didn't do it!" Booth yells. Angela sympathizes, but points out that the evidence doesn't look good. Booth's phone rings. It's Bones -- and she says that Pelant has her! Booth rushes to Pelant's apartment and bursts through the door. He finds Pelant and throws him across the room, demanding to know what the hacker/killer has done with Bones. It soon becomes clear that Bones is, in fact, safe at home and Booth is the victim of another Pelant "prank." Booth doesn't like this, so he smashes Pelant's face through a window and then stomps on him. Later, Caroline has bad, bad news. Pelant's lawyer found out about Booth's home invasion and released Pelant. Not only that, but Booth and Bones have been removed from the case. Flynn enters and demands Booth's gun and badge. "So Pelant got everything he wants," Booth seethes. Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela does a computer representation of the victim's skeleton and sees tiny cuts. Somebody cut the man's arteries to attract the wolves. And who has that kind of medical training? Bones, of course. Reluctantly, Camille has to report the news to Flynn. Angela objects, knowing she is running out of time to prove Bones' innocence. Sure enough, Flynn looks at Sweets' profile and discovers that it could match Pelant or Bones. They are more similar than anybody on the Jeffersonian team would like to admit. Back at B&B's place, Angela hacks into Pelant's account and finds that he has ordered thousands of books and thousands of pay-per-movies -- so many that one person couldn't possibly watch them all. Strange. The doorbell ring and it's Flynn with a warrant to search the house. Fortunately, the address on the warrant is one number off -- a technicality, but Flynn will have to go back to the judge to get a new, correct one. B&B have bought a bit more time. Meanwhile, Camille has horrible news for Hodgins: one of the victim's hairs has been found in the trunk of Bones' car. Camille begins to cry. Bones will be arrested. Angela then examines ALL the library books ordered by Pelant. Hodgins helps her look for clues. Caroline then goes to B&B house to warn them (she also more or less admits to putting the wrong house address on the warrant). Bones has just a few hours. She then looks at an inscription written by Sawyer in a book he gave her. It contains a quote from Alexander Pope that seems to be a cryptic message. So Hodgins and Camille visit Sawyer's old room at the mental hospital -- and discover with the help of black light, a massive coded message written in his own saliva. Hodgins takes pictures. Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela calls Bones to tell her about the coded message. "I just want to say thank you for believing in me," Bones tells her friend before hanging up. She then joins Booth, Max and Christine inside a church for the baby's private baptism. B&B wanted to have it done before Bones was arrested. As the baptism progresses, Pelant enters B&B home and replaces their bedside alarm clock with his own exact version. He then takes pictures of the baby's nursery ... and smiles a very evil smile. Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela has news for Caroline. She has figured out that Pelant got the library books and inserted his nefarious codes into the bar codes. When the library got the books back and scanned them back into the catalog, they codes were uploaded to the Internet. "Do you think this is enough to keep Brennan from being arrested?" Angela asks. Unfortunately, no. But the team still has a fighting chance. Booth and Bones, meanwhile, leave the church and Booth goes to fetch the car. When he leaves, Max pulls up in his car and hustles Bones inside with the baby. "Drive as far as you can without getting exhausted!" Max tells his daughter. "Trust me! Now wait for me where I said." So Bones gets into the car with Christine and drives away. She is on the run. But why? From whom? And to where?

The Suit on the Set
Picture the pyramids. Now, two agents...
more
Picture the pyramids. Now, two agents -- a man and a woman -- charge the screen as the ancient EXPLODES behind them. We're watching a movie preview for "Bone of Contention, based on a novel by Temperance Brennan. "Action so intense ... you can feel it in your bones!" promises the narrator. Back at the Jeffersonian, Camille, Angela, Sweets and Hodgins watch the preview. They all agree that the movie looks "awesome." Back on set, the actors prepare for a scene while Bones complains that the director has changed pretty much all the details from her book. She then meets producer Mandy, who clearly doesn't care about Bones' contention that there are "errors in the science." Nor does the director. And nor does podiatrist Doug Philmore, who have met B&B before and is working as a technical advisor on the film -- much to Bones' horror. With the cameras about to role, the actors uncover a set of remains in the Jeffersonian set ... and they smell awfully authentic. Sure enough, the body is real! Actors begin passing out. Mandy announces that the movie will shut down on the suggestion of security official Mike. Bones, meanwhile, is busy examining the body. It appears to be a male. Bones wants to solve the mystery so that the movie can continue (despite its scientific inaccuracies). "If you solve this, remember that it's all my idea," Mandy says. Actor Barry, who is playing the Hodgins character, takes a great interest in the case. Turns out the actor has doctorates in botany and microbiology. "If you have a useful talent, why are you an actor?" Bones asks. Barry calls actor his "first love," though he misses science. Bones is impressed and enlists the actor to help solve the real case. Booth, in the meantime, confers with security leader Mike, who used to be in the FBI. Mike talks about his new, great job, which allows him to work on movie shoots and surf everyday before work. He even mentions that a position is open. Would Booth be interested? Later, Hodgins is annoyed that Barry is actually working on the case -- and that he actually appears to be very, very smart. Angela then does a facial reconstruction of the victim and Barry immediately recognizes the face -- it's Hanson Stevens, the head of the studio. B&B then question Stevens' assistant, Nick, who denies having anything to do with the too-real prop. Mandy defends Nick, explaining that Stevens was known to "go AWOL" at least a few times a year with whatever actor he was currently sleeping with. Later, Booth asks Sweets, via teleconference, if he thinks Bones might be open to living on the west coast. The FBI guy is clearly thinking about Mike's offer. Suddenly, Blaine, the actor playing the Hollywood version of Booth, enters. Booth mentions the actor's criminal history of assault. "I was just trying to get on TMZ!" Blaine claims. Back at the Jeffersonian, Camille and Angela discover a threatening voice mail left on the victim's phone from screenwriter Liam Toynen. Liam has been reprimanded for visiting questionable websites, including one called the "Perfect Murder." B&B, in the meantime, discover a sprinkler outside Liam's bungalow that is splattered in blood. Could it be where the victim punctured his head? B&B then question Liam, who explains that the "Perfect Murder" website was for research and that he would never have killed Stevens as the studio head paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars to write "crap." Back at the Jeffersonian, Barry claims to recognize Camille from a low-budget movie called "Invasion of the Mother Suckers." Hodgins finds a still photo online ... and it appears to feature Camille. He orders Angela to find a digital copy of the movie online. "I'm on it!" an enthusiastic Angela says. B&B then interview the lead actress, Sherri, who admits she was sleeping with the victim. Suddenly, gardener Fernando enters with flowers. He is shocked to hear that the actress is sleeping with someone besides him. "I'd like to know where you both were Friday night," Booth says. Both claim to have an alibi. Later, Booth tells Bones that he was offered a job by Mike. Would Bones be interested in living by the ocean? Bones rejects the notion out of hand. Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela has contacted the director of "Invasion of the Mother Suckers," now a high-school teacher, who has promised to send a copy of the film. Hodgins is giddy with excitement. Meanwhile, podiatrist Doug uses a "Robocop" suit -- metal legs, essentially -- to mimic the height, bone structure and the weight distribution of the victim. That way, they can differentiate between the victim's tracks outside the bungalow and the perpetrator's markings. Moments later, they figure out that the victim was hit by a car and knocked into the grass outside the bungalow. And who has grass embedded in her spots car? None other than producer Mandy. Mandy explains that she swerved into a bush while texting. B&B ask head groundskeeper Valerie, Fernando's boss, to get a sample from the supposed bush to validate Mandy's story. Later, it turns out that Mandy was telling the truth. Hodgins and Barry, now working together and developing a mutual respect, discover that a substance found on the victim's hand wasn't glass, but the covering for a smart phone. Back at the real Jeffersonian, Angela examines the contents of the victim's smart phone and discovers clandestine video of Sherri getting intimate with the director. Uh oh. Bones then goes to confront the director, who resists questioning. Suddenly, Blaine flies into the frame and tackles the director. "I'm in character!" the actor tells Booth. "Figured it was what you would do." B&B then show the director the smart phone video of his rendezvous with Sherri. The director shrugs. So he was sleeping with his star? So what? The director then reports that he heard screaming the night of the victim's death. Back at the Jeffersonian, Angela clears the director's car, explaining that whatever ran over the studio head had a much tighter turning radius. Turns out the golf cart driven by Valerie matches that turning radius. It even has blood on the wheels. Was Valerie pushed over the edge by all the creative types disrespecting her various topiaries (Stevens, just like Mandy, had recently damaged one of them). Valerie admits her guilt after watching Stevens rip apart an elephant topiary. "He wouldn't even apologize!" he exclaims. Barry is overjoyed. "We solved a murder!" the actor yells. Meanwhile, Booth dismisses the idea of moving west. He wants to continue to work with his partner (in life and in work) full time. Back at the Jeffersonian, everybody gathers to watch Camille's film. She is terribly embarrassed by the movie, in which she plays a Pam Grier type vampire killed by a stake to the heart. B&B then break the good news as everybody laughs: the studio is so grateful for the team solving the murder that all of the real Jeffersonian employees have been offered cameos in "Bone of Contention." Hodgins is overjoyed.

The Warrior in the Wuss
Two young men are carrying a canoe...
more
Two young men are carrying a canoe through a park and having a friendly conversation when one steps in something ... gooey. It's a corpse, of course. "Help me!" yells the friend. The other backs away, disgusted and terrified. Back at the Jeffersonian, Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) gushes over his new and very expensive evaporator. "You have a budget that I oversee," Camille (Tamara Taylor) says. "Are these things within your budget?" Counters Hodgins: "Come on! What business doesn't run on credit?" He has a point, but Camille isn't listening. At the park, Bones (Emily Deschanel) identifies the victim as a male. B&B then begin talking about the return of Parker (Ty Panitz), who has been overseas for four months. Booth (David Boreanaz) is in such a hurry to get his son that he ends up sliding down an incline and landing in a puddle ... on top of the missing skull. "Found it!" he yells. "Can we go to the airport now?" Back home, Parker holds baby Christine -- and the boy doesn't seem overly thrilled to meet his new sister. "You like her?" he asks his dad. Says Booth: "I love her, just like I love you." Parker asks to be alone. At the Jeffersonian, Bones examines dental records and determines the victim was in his mid 20s and has injuries consistent with a stabbing injury. Hodgins, meanwhile, complains to Angela (Michaela Conlin) about the lack of equipment budget. She is having trouble getting a match on her facial reconstruction machine. Clark (Eugene Byrd) enters with news: the victim was likely wearing lifts, which added a few inches to his height. Angela recalculates and gets a driver's license match: a man named Tony Cole, who was recently reported missing by his wife. Later, Booth and Sweets (John Francis Daley) interview the wife, who is distraught. She explains Tony's work was really getting to him. A competitor named Carl (Evan Helmuth) had begun to hone into Tony's trucking route. Plus, Carl made fun of Tony's height (hence, the lifts). Clark then finds the fragments of a weapon in the wound consistent with a metal instrument no less than seven inches long. B&B drive to visit Carl and talk about Parker, who Bones notices is having adjustment issues. Booth dismisses her claims, but thanks his partner for her concern. B&B find Carl holding court in front of a group of truckers and telling fishing stories. "Tony got himself murdered," Booth says. "Rumor has it you wanted him out of the way." Carl denies killing his competitor, then opens his truck to reveal hundreds of pieces of hardware that match the murder weapon. Back at FBI headquarters, Sweets brings Booth news: Tony, the day before his death, got into a fight with his young son's karate teacher. The son then made a 911 call. Sweets then interviews the boy, Danny (Lorenzo Peter Benet), alongside his mother. The boy explains he tried to beat up the karate instructor's kid to impress dear old dad, but got beat up. Dad, who had an inferiority complex, then charged into the gym and challenged the teacher. Danny, who has terrified, called 911. The next day, Tony said "wasn't done ... He said he would keep fighting for me." Hodgins, in the meantime, identifies the murder weapon fragment as stainless steel. Camille then summons Angela, asking her to help convince Hodgins to return some of his expensive equipment. The Jeffersonian, it turns out, has not been immune to funding cutbacks. Angela declines, explaining she can't waste a marital manipulation on something like work funding. Fair enough. Booth then returns home in the middle of the day to find Parker missing. The boy then returns, explaining he has been out exploring the woods. When Booth gently reprimands the boy for ditching his babysitter, Parker says, "I'm not a baby. Christine is the baby." Booth then gets a call from Booth, who has found very specific and precise bruising on the victim. B&B both immediately suspect the karate teacher, who may have fought Tony for a second time. The partners then visit the dojo and talk to the instructor. He admits to threatening Tony, but claims not to have fought him. "The point of what we do here is to make violence unnecessary," the instructor says. "He came here last Thursday and I never saw him again." Back at the Jeffersonian, Bones and Angela analyze a training video starring the karate instructor and determine his hands and feet are far too large to have made the bruises on the victim's body. In fact, the bruises are small enough, the injuries might have even been made by a child. Hmmm. Later, Hodgins examines a worm found in the victim's stomach. It's a worm typically found in the bottom of a tequila bottle. Complaining a new machine would allow him to accomplish his job in half the time, Hodgins cuts open the worm to reveal waste made from soil. "This little turd could be our Rosetta stone," says an excited Hodgins. Back at B&B's house, Bones comes home early to discover Parker is once again missing. In the boy's room, she finds a destroyed radio controlled car, her lab coat and an empty frame which used to have a picture of Bones and Christine. Booth and Sweets then return to the dojo to discover the instructor's child is a girl, Blake (Peyton Roney). A state finalist for the past three years, Blake explains the victim stopped her on her way home from school. Tony apparently said "because my dad wouldn't teach me the difference between right and wrong, that he would." Blake then warned Tony before punching him. Hence, the bruises. "I would never use a weapon," she says. "It was self defense." To prove it, Blake shows a video shot on a friend's phone and then put on the Internet. The video is very, very embarrassing for poor Tony. Back at the FBI office, Bones tells Booth about the "evidence" in Parker's room. He is distraught and agrees to talk to his son. Later, Bones and Clark examine the victim once more and determine he was stabbed from the front, but the weapon was pulled out from behind, thus leaving the fragment of metal. "That's impossible," says a frustrated Bones. Hodgins then returns with news of the worm turd: the soil particulates indicate the worm originated in Mexico where a tequila producer is located -- and only three bars in the area sell that particular brand. And one of those bars is directly on the victim's trucking route. "How many of your machines did it take to figure this out?" Camille asks. Says a smiling Hodgins: "All of them." Later, Booth and Sweets drive to the bar. On the way, Booth tells Sweets about Parker's outbursts. Sweets urges Booth to talk to his son. Simple enough. "You're not your father, Agent Booth," Sweets says. "You're a good dad. It'll turn out better than you think." Booth and Sweets then enter the bar and talk to the bartender, who explains Tony was there on the night of his death, having a few drinks. Soon, others in the bar began to watch the Internet video and tease Tony, who flipped out and started threatening the customers. Back at the lab, Angela examines the viral spread of the video and finds out much of the outburst leads back to the address of Carl, who sent it to every one of Tony's customers. At the diner, Booth asks Bones to help him talk to his son. "We need to do it as a family," he says. Bones smiles. Booth has a brainstorm: the victim was killed with a hooked fishing tool. He wasn't stabbed from the front. He was stabbed from behind with a hooked instrument. Carl is an acknowledged fishing enthusiast. It all fits. So B&B visit Carl and discover said fishing tool ... with blood on it. "It was self defense!" Carl says. "That little bastard couldn't take a joke!" Case closed, but not the episode. Parker denies all wrong doing. He explains he loves his sister. "You're ruining everything!" he says. "It was supposed to be a surprise!" Sure enough, Parker has made a mobile above the baby's crib with badges from B&B's uniforms, photos and a motor from a smashed remote control truck. Christine laughs. Booth hugs his son. It's a family moment.

The Bump in the Road
The new baby appears to wink at her...
more
The new baby appears to wink at her daddy, Booth. Naturally, the FBI man is excited. "She's developmentally incapable of making the decision to wink at you," says Bones, explaining that their daughter is only six weeks old. Bones is worried, though. She is prepping the baby for the first day of daycare at the Jeffersonian. It is also mom's first day back on the job. Baby makes her feel better by appearing to wink. This time, Bones buys it completely. A mom, dad and young teenage daughter are taking a family trip and kindly bickering when -- suddenly -- the car THUMPS. Something has been run over and luggage goes flying. The family pulls to the side of the road and gets out to collect their belongings. The teen starts to SCREAM. Turns out the family SUV ran over the remains of a horribly mangled corpse. Oops. At the diner, Finn thanks Camille for her high evaluation of his work. Just then, a stunningly beautiful young woman, Lily, enters. She wants to know why Finn didn't call her last weekend. Finn makes some awkward excuse about "having to work." Lily exits and Camille asks the young man why he obviously lied. Finn says that he just haven't had time to date. "Live a little," Camille advises. Camille then heads to the interstate, where a road crew is scraping the victim off the blacktop. Bones quickly determines that the bones are those of a female. Also, the victim's head was removed BEFORE she was run over. Back at the lab, Finn examines the bones with Hodgins and determines that the victim's head was torn off. He compares the remains to those of a deer who was hit by a pick up and dragged for a few miles. Hodgins smells diesel fuel on the body. He also finds grease. Finn, who has experience with cars and trucks, smells the grease and determines that it comes from a semi. Special Agent Shaw then approaches Booth with the result of super fancy detective work. Using a scale embedded in the road that measures the weight of trucks on the highway with a scale further down the road at an official weigh station, it seems that one truck weighed 122 pounds more at the second scale. Meaning: that truck was dragging the body when it reached the weigh station. Of course, Shaw has also tracked down the driver: Alan Bates. Booth is both annoyed at the young agent's efficiency and extremely impressed. Hodgins and Angela find papers in the victim's pockets. They carefully unravel and examine them. Elsewhere, Finn gives Camille an update on the case when Michelle enters. Finn gives the young woman a long look. She returns the gaze. Camille is amused ... and then a bit disturbed watching the two obviously flirt. So maybe this is why Finn has been ignoring other women. He has the daughter of his boss on the mind. B&B then approach driver Alan Bates, a driver for a market. Bones quickly looks under the truck and finds flesh and sinew. She also finds the victim's head still stuck in the underside of the semi. Later, Bones finds pink panties in the truck's cab. Bates, who is married, claims that the underwear belongs to him. Bates then pulls down his pants to reveal similar undies. "Don't tell my wife -- I only dress like this on the road," Alan explains. "I didn't kill anyone. I just like to look pretty." Back at the lab, Hodgins teases Camille about her daughter dating Finn. Camille, who has always defended Finn, mentions that she is somewhat concerned about his violent past. Hodgins and Angela defend the young lab assistant. B&B then head to the Jeffersonian daycare center to check in on lil' Christine. Hodgins enters and explains that he found traces of American chestnut in the victim's nasal passage. And wouldn't you know it? There's an American chestnut farm within driving distance. So B&B head to the farm where they meet the husband of the victim, Barb. The middle aged man is distraught. "We're convinced it wasn't an accident," says Booth, explaining that the team found coupons stuffed in her clothes (the papers). The husband says that makes sense, explaining that Barb was an extreme couponer. So B&B head to Field's Market and meet Chad, the young manager. Bones, meanwhile, searches the parking lot and finds more of the victim's remains. Bargain Barb definitely died at the market. He shows the partners a surveillance video of Barb fighting with Crystal, a longtime cashier. Moments later, Crystal explains that Barb ruined her life by urging all her bargain-hunting friends to use her register (because Crystal is the fastest). The poor cashier even developed a wrist injury from scanning so many coupons. Crystal tells B&B to look into the victim's friends, who are apparently competitive. Sure enough, Sweets and Angela go online and discover major electronic smack talking in the extreme coupon community. One post even threatens Barb's life. Later that night, Finn takes Michelle out on a date. "You think we could spend a little more time together this weekend?" Finn asks. As a response, Michelle leans in and kisses the young man. "That was a yes," she says. The next morning, Camille is very cold to Finn, who flat-out asks if this is about Michelle. Camille denies the charge ... quite unconvincingly. Finn then notices a break in the victim's skull. Barb was struck in the head. "She was being attacked," Camille says. "That's why she hid underneath the truck." Bones then walks in on Angela to find baby Michael laying on a blanket in a filing cabinet. Angela explains that she knows babies aren't allowed in the lab, but she misses her child too badly to follow the rules. Bones promises not to tell ... and thinks about her own child who is currently in daycare. Booth and Sweets then arrive at an extreme coupon club to question the woman, Rhonda, who threatened Barb's life via email. She refuses to cooperate, so Booth cuffs the woman, who FREAKS OUT when her coupon box drops to the ground. The other extreme couponers immediately pounce on it. Competitive. Booth retrieves the small, heavy box because its sharp corners match the description of the wound on the victim's head. Was the coupon box the murder weapon? Rhonda explains that she used to be friends with Barb before Barb turned mean in her couponing and hit Rhonda in the head. Rhonda then produces a huge stack of receipts that, she says, will prove she wasn't at Field's Market on the night in question. Michelle, meanwhile, shows up at the lab to bring lunch to Finn. "He is busy right now ... and I don't want you two to see each other anymore," Camille blurts out. "I just don't want to see you get hurt again!" Michelle correctly guesses that mom is concerned about the time Finn attacked his abusive stepfather with a knife. Camille doesn't deny it. Shaw then goes over the case with Booth. She reveals, casually, that she is a single mom. Her mother watches the kid during the day. Booth is shocked -- he had no idea Shaw was a mommy. "I'll bet you're a great mom," he says. Shaw then points out that Barb and her husband shared a credit card. And the records show that, while Barb was out bargain hunting, her hubby was wining and dining somebody at fine restaurants around town. Back at the lab, Bones finds a metal fragment embedded in the skull of the victim. Finn points out that the metal is aluminum, so it couldn't have been Rhonda's coupon box. Booth brings Barb's husband into the interrogation room. He admits that he was stepping out on Barb. "She'd rather spend her night dumpster diving for coupons than with me, " the hubby says. "I admit I cheated ... (but) I didn't kill my wife." Finn then visits Camille. "Be honest with me ... you're afraid for your girl," Finn says. "I owe you a great deal and while I do think you're making a mistake about me and Michelle, you're the mom and I have to respect your wishes." Finn then explains that he said as much to Michelle, who ran out crying. Camille obviously feels terrible. Finn then gets back to work and discovers ink on the victim's skull. So what kind of marker is made of aluminum? Bones knows. She remembers Chad the manager carrying an aluminum clipboard that had a blue marker attached to it. He must have hit Barb with it. So B&B head to the market and confront Chad. Sure enough, Bones finds a bone shaving on the pad. "I-I hit her ... and she ran away," he says. "She was diving in my dumpster and I was sick of it." He then says that he only hit the woman, who then ran away. Bones explains that Barb ran and hid under a truck, which killed her. "According to law, you're responsible," Booth says. Chad is arrested. Case closed, but not the episode. Later that night, Camille tries to explain herself Michelle, who refuses to listen. "How can you not remember that you were like me once!?" Michelle yells. Suddenly, Finn enters. "I can't stop seeing your daughter, maam," Finn tells Camille. "I think about Michelle all the time and I wouldn't be much of a man if I walked out on her when I feel a little pressure." Finn then volunteers to quit if that's what Camille wants. But it's not what she wants. Finn can stay. He embraces Michelle. "Don't press your luck," Camille says. "Take it outside." B&B, in the meantime, put Christine to bed. Bones starts to cry, explaining that she missed her daughter so much. "I'm going to sneak her into the lab everyday," Bones explains. Says Booth: "You're a good mom."

more
We open in suburbia where a father tries to talk his toddler daughter out of believing there is a monster in the bathroom. She buys it and heads into the restroom ... only to start screaming. Sure enough, human eyeball floating in toilet. Both father and daughter are likely scarred for life. Booth (David Boreanaz) and Bones, meanwhile, tour the hospital where they will have their baby. "I want a home birth where I can control things," argues Bones (Emily Deschanel), loudly explaining how filthy hospitals can be and taking out her blue light to point out the evidence. The other prospective parents are horrified. B&B then get a call: an eye has been found in a toilet. Time to get to work. The team soon arrives in suburbia and starts pulling parts out of the potty. Later, Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) examines a portion of the clogged sewer while Daisy (Carla Gallo) volunteers she is training to be a doula. "You are getting nowhere near my cervix," Bones informs her. Bones quickly determines the victim was male ... and the eyeball has a lens implant. Camille (Tamara Taylor) examines the lens and discovers a serial number. The victim will soon be identified. Later, Booth heads to the diner with Sweets (John Francis Daley) and gets very, very agitated to discover the place now has a fancy coffee drink machine. The man just wants a cup of black coffee. Obviously, there is more bothering the expectant father. He explains to Sweets he wants to have the baby in the hospital while Bones wants to deliver at home. Angela (Michaela Conlin) calls with the ID of the victim -- a man named Rob who recently escaped from prison. Booth brings in the man's wife for an interview. She is furious with her dead husband, who was in prison for running a ponzi scheme. The dead man apparently left his pretty young wife with nothing. Hodgins, meanwhile, is very excited about his newest toy: a sewer bot currently exploring the pipes near the home where the victim "surfaced." The video feed soon reveals a bone. Sweets, in the meantime, gives Bones a "partner assessment," which is little more than a thinly disguised way to convince the pregnant woman she should have the baby in the hospital. Naturally, Booth put Sweets up to it. Bones sees through the ploy immediately and takes both Sweets and her partner (at work and in life) to task. Later, Hodgins and Daisy are still remotely exploring the sewer. They discover bars right below the prison. No way the victim escaped through the pipe ... in one piece anyway. "He was killed in prison and then dumped in the sewer," Hodgins explains. Bones and Booth then head to the prison, arguing the entire way. Bones proposes they compromise: Booth can baptize his daughter. Bones will give birth at home. Booth doesn't seem overly pleased with this "deal." The partners then get a call from the lab: the victim was beaten in prison long before he was killed. The guard readily admits the victim was beaten, though he can't say who did the deed. A prisoner named Jackson (Pruitt Taylor Vince), however, did break up the fight. Booth questions Jackson, who directs Booth to the warden, whose office was the last place the victim was seen. Turns out Rob was working in the accounting department at the prison. The warden found Rob stealing, about $500, and reassigned him to another area in the big house. Back at the lab, Angela digitally recreates the victim's skeleton and they discover the man was stabbed in the ribs with an almost four-inch blade. "Looks like he have our cause of death," Camille observes. At the prison, B&B look through the vast collection of confiscated shivs. Bones identifies one of the sharp sticks exactly matching the length of the weapon described by Angela. It is made of highly compressed paper ... with something written on it. Back at the lab, Daisy seduces Sweets into doing it at the office. He resists, weakly, before giving into his animal instincts. As the couple tumble to the floor, they bump the tray of the victim's bones. Daisy pops up and discovers something she has missed: the victim was likely dismembered with the help of acid. She excitedly leaves the office to report. Sweets is left frustrated. At the prison, B&B visit the mailbox works with the guard, who explains the shop contains an large acid bath. Booth then interviews an inmate whose parents were wiped out by the victim's financial crimes. The inmate denies any wrongdoing and then clams up, refusing to talk without his lawyer. Hodgins calls with news: the inmate wasn't dissolved in the mailbox works acid. It's a different acid compound. But where from in the prison? Angela calls with more news: the words written on the paper-made murder weapon come from a cookbook. B&B head to the prison kitchen and discover the cookbook with pages ripped out as well as a drain the victim might've been poured down. But how to explain the acid? Back at the lab, Hodgins and Daisy deduce the vinegar from the kitchen was evaporated into a form of acid. Bones takes pictures of the prints left on the cookbook and sends them to Angela. The prints belong to Jackson, who works in the kitchen. The theory is Jackson stabbed Rob, dissolved his body in acid and then poured him down the drain. So a very pregnant Bones goes rushing into the prison population yelling for Jackson. He flees. A massive fight breaks out among the inmates. Booth eventually disarms Jackson and flips the prison onto the ground. Jackson admits the victim had promised him money. When Jackson found out Rob had no money, the inmate took his revenge. Case closed, but not the episode. Bones suddenly goes into labor. B&B hurry to the car and hit the road. It soon becomes clear they're not going to make it to the hospital. There is no time. So they pull over into a winery, which offers the pair room in the barn. "It's the perfect place!" Bones exclaims. Booth points out they were just denied entry at an inn and are going to give birth in a manger. "There's some things you can't explain -- why can't you just admit there's a mystery to life!?" an excited Booth exclaims. Bones moans and pushes through labor. Soon, we hear a tiny baby crying. Booth and Bones have had their baby alone in a barn in wine country. They greet their baby and cuddle as a family. Later, the couple returns home to find all their friends waiting. "She is beautiful!" Angela explains. Camille offers the new mom a sip of champagne. "Our daughter's name is Christine Angela," Bones says -- after Bones's mom and her close friend and coworker.

The Crack in the Code

more
A bossy supervisor at a museum is training the staff to give tours. Suddenly, the mouths of the new hires drop in unison. Resting at the base of a statue of Lincoln is a bloody skull and spine. Written in blood on the statue: "Where is the rest of me?" A good question. CUT to Bones and Booth, who continue to argue over the perfect new house on their way to the crime scene. Later, Bones examines the spine and discovers that it has been dissected and then reassembled in the incorrect order. "It seems the killer reassembled the vertebrae out of order on purpose," Bones says. "He's sending us a message." Back at the lab, Bones identifies the victim as a female in her early 20s. Wendell enters the lab with more horrifying news: the blood on the statue is from five different people. Later, Booth investigates the museum's nighttime cleaning crew and discovers one, a gentleman named Sam, has an extensive felony record. Sam is soon brought in for questioning. The man insists to be reformed, but agrees to show Booth the "blind spots" where one might hide in the museum from security cameras. Meanwhile, DNA results come back and identify five field agents from the Washington D.C. FBI office. Uh oh. Booth arrives at the Hoover building to find a desperate reporter, Ezra, looking for a comment from Caroline. Booth shoos away the man, but not before the journalist spills secret details of the case. Either there is a leak at the Jeffersonian or the killer is talking to the press. Booth then discovers that the FBI agents are alive and well. The killer most likely obtained the men's blood from a recent FBI blood drive. Clearly, he wants the FBI to notice him. Back at the lab, Hodgins is practically pulling his hair out trying to solve the mystery of the rearranged vertebrae. "The code has to be simple," he says to Angela. Why did the killer arrive the pieces in the order he did? Later, Booth discovers a laser sighter hidden inside a mint container. It was obviously assembled at home and used to temporarily blind the security cameras. "So we're looking for a tech savvy guy who hates the FBI," Caroline observes. One potential suspect is a computer hacker named, Christopher. Booth and Sweets visit Christopher to discover he hasn't been past his front door in six weeks because he is under house arrest for hacking into government systems. Christopher wears an ankle monitor. "I'm not a criminal, I'm a hacktivist," the man says with a dislikable smile. He also mentions that Ezra, desperate-for-a-story reporter, recently called to ask about the murder case. Back at the lab, Angela and Hodgins try to crack the vertebrae code. They isolate the vertebrae numbers and realize that the string of numerals indicates an address -- the address to the Justice Department archive building. CUT to Bones and Sweets who pay a visit to the archive building. It isn't long before Booth spots blood on the floor ... and then body parts on a shelf. "That 'Where's the rest of me question?' I think we just answered it," Sweets says. He then goes through files found next to the remains. All of the files are of protected government informants with serious criminal records. Hmmm. Later, Caroline is FURIOUS because Ezra has found out about the remains in the FBI archive. Ezra claims to have a "source" on the inside. Sweets then enters with news: one of the informants in the file, Daniel, ran a real estate scam in which one of his victim's committed suicide in front of h is daughter. That daughter is an IT specialist at a local hospital named Sophia. So Sophia has the motive and the technical expertise. Booth and Sweets visit the woman, who is still distraught. She says she knew Daniel was an FBI informant because she was informed by reporter Ezra. Booth then gets a call from Angela, who explains that facial reconstruction has identified the victim as a Danish woman working as a house sitter. CUT to the house, where Booth and Sweets discover the swimming pool filled with blood. "This is where he killed her," Booth notes. On a nearby fence, written in blood, is "This will not stop." CUT to the lab, where Wendell and Angela scan the victim's skeleton and run it through a program that suggests causes of death. But before the program can show them anything, the screen suddenly flashes and then goes dark. Has the Jeffersonian been hacked? It certainly has. Later, Angela explains that the virus originated in her computer, so it had to come from something she uploaded. And the only thing she uploaded were the bone scans. "Are you telling me the virus came from the bones?" a disbelieving Camille asks. Believe it. Hodgins, meanwhile, has determined that the woman was killed with a stick used by divers to repel sharks. The shock from the stick literally produced an explosion, explaining the scattered nature of the remains. Booth, meanwhile, brings in Ezra for questioning. "You've got nothing on me!" the reporter says. Spits Booth: "I don't think you have a source. I think you killed that girl to save your career!" Hours later, Booth is called to a new crime scene by Caroline. Turns out that yet another body has been found -- this one hung from a flagpole and also killed with a "bang stick." It is reporter Ezra. "Someone really didn't want Ezra Crane to reveal his source," Caroline notes. Then it gets really complicated. Turns out Ezra's body never made it back to the Jeffersonian because someone was able to manipulate the paperwork at multiple government sites and then declaring the body contained a deadly virus. It was immediately cremated. The team gets nervous. The killer is obviously a genius, capable of hacking into government databases and lines of communications and writing a computer virus onto bone. It must be Christopher, who is soon brought in for questioning. Of course, the cocky hacker explains that his ankle monitor clearly gives him an alibi. It's true. As Sweets explained, Christopher did it but there is no way he could have done it. It appears that our favorite crime fighters have been outthought and outmaneuvered on this particular case. Still, Booth SWEARS to nail the hacker at some point. CUE a MONTAGE of the team furiously investigating every possible angle ... while Christopher uses household items to build his next dastardly device. The episode ends with Bones and Booth visiting their new home. It's a total wreck ... at least for the time being. "I can see the bones -- the bones of the house," Bones says. "I can imagine it whole." The pair embraces.

more
We open with Jacob Broadsky taking in a little target practice with Matt, who reveals that the FBI had visited him and is looking for Jacob. "You have to trust I'm still working for the good guys," says Jacob, before asking Matt for his help and his rifle. In the next scene, we go to the diner, where Booth , Bones and Sweets eat lunch. They discuss Jacob's case. "From now on, it's all Broadsky all the time," he promises. Vincent enters and announces the "Tyrannosaurus Rex has arrived," which makes Bones quite excited. Apparently, the pair are presenting a paper on the subject. Booth then gets a text: Jacob has been spotted.Booth arrives at the graveyard to discover Jacob left flowers on a grave. Inside the flowers is a cell phone. It begins to ring and Booth anxiously tells Agent Shaw to track the number. Booth answers: "Hello, Jacob." Jacob insists he is doing good work by killing bad guys. "Don't you forget for a moment that you never see the bullet that takes you down," Jacob warns before hanging up. Later, a very pregnant Angela identifies the cell tower transmitting Jacob's call -- something Booth will be able to do in the future with a handy cell-phone app. Shaw then visits and points out Matt recently withdrew a large amount of money from his bank account.Sweets, Shaw and Booth go to Matt's compound -- and find a decomposing body. Matt. Naturally, Matt's rifle is missing. Shaw then spots a camera. Jacob is watching them. Back at the lab, Camille examines Matt's body and determines the killer searched the victim's wallet ... but didn't take any cash. Interesting. Hodgins, meanwhile, discovers Vincent and Bones are planning to present a paper on a theoretical arm-wrestling match between a human and a dinosaur. He is VERY excited and soon constructs a robotic armature for Vincent which mimics the strength of the T-Rex's tiny arms. They arm wrestle -- and Hodgins wins. "Yes!" Hodgins yells. "That's one for humanity and zero for the tyrant lizard!" Camille urges the two to get back to work.In the next scene, you see Jacob setting up equipment in a sniper's nest atop a massive crane overlooking the Jeffersonian. Who is he targeting? Shaw? Booth? Sweets? Hodgins? All of them? Inside the lab, the cell phone Booth found at the gravesite rings. Booth hands the phone to Vincent, telling him to keep Jacob talking while Booth attempts to trace the call using Angela's application. Suddenly, the glass above SHATTERS. Jacob has shot through the window -- and Booth tackles Vincent ... but it's too late. The bullet intended for Booth has hit Vincent in the chest. "Please don't make me leave," Vincent gasps. "Don't make me go ... please ... don't ... please." Then Vincent goes still, clearly dead.Later, the team meets -- and can't believe Vincent is dead. "He was the sweetest guy ... with all his facts," Hodgins says. Booth enters with news: Jacob was on a construction crane and escaped without a trace. "I don't blame myself," he says. "I blame the guy with the gun." His face says otherwise, especially after Bones points out her partner still has "blood on your hands." She means it literally, of course. Booth then turns to Bones: "You're staying at my apartment tonight." Later, Hodgins discovers a single card was taken from Matt's wallet and left behind traces of gold. The scene changes to Booth, who is asleep in his bed. He hears a noise, and leaps up, grabbing his gun. It's only Bones, who remains distraught over Vincent's final words. She cries, and Booth does his best to comfort her. Booth hugs his partner. They lie down in bed (but not like THAT). She continues to cry while Booth holds her. The next morning, Camille explains to Angela how she had to call Vincent's mother and break the news. Both begin to cry. Hodgins enters with news: the gold came from an access card. Jacob wanted it. Later, Booth interviews Matt's boss Skip at an area trucking company. The boss explains the company doesn't use access cards. HOWEVER, the boss explains everybody needs such a card to access a nearby shipping port.Bones, meanwhile, confesses to Angela that she crawled into bed with Booth the previous night. "What exactly happened after you crawled into bed with Booth?!" a super-excited Angela exclaims. Bones only smiles, and the two are interrupted by Hodgins, who announces he has news on the bullet that killed Vincent. Angela tells her husband to leave immediately so she can hear the rest of Bones' story. Hodgins is confused. "Away!" Angela demands. So a flustered Hodgins goes to Camille, explaining he found traces of sea salt among other telling substances. "The bullet was made near the ocean," Hodgins says. "Someplace where they decontaminate produce."Booth and Shaw, in the meantime, arrive at the port. Booth readies his rifle, while Shaw calls in the cavalry. Time to go hunting. Booth moves between the massive cargo containers, looking for his quarry. Suddenly, Bones and Hodgins call -- and Booth, who can't speak lest he give his position away, listens as the two explain Matt's bones reveal Jacob hit the man where a very powerful bone resides. In other words, it's likely Jacob's hand is broken. "That may have just saved my life," Booth whispers. Suddenly, Jacob shoots, and misses. "You want to give up?" Booth yells. Not a chance. Moments later, Booth gets the drop on Jacob, and tells the sniper to lower his weapon. Jacob makes a move, and Booth FIRES.Jacob falls to the ground. He has been shot in the leg. "Are you sure you're the good guy in all this?" Jacob asks. Yes, Booth is sure. Back at the lab, Bones gets a call and repeats the news to the team: "Booth got Broadsky!" Everyone celebrates, and Bones and Angela share a conspiratorial smile.Later, the team gathers to say goodbye to Vincent, whose body is about to be shipped back home. They share stories about the intern -- mostly bizarre facts Vincent had shared. They conclude the unorthodox wake by singing Vincent's favorite song: "Coconut." The scene ends with Booth and Brennan's arms linked.

more
A policeman (Reggie Watkins) drives through the city on a rainy night -- and spots what he thinks is a homeless person in an alley. Turns out it's a bloody girl. She opens her eyes, grabs and knife and SLASHES at the officer, who quickly steps away. Whoa. The next day, B&B talk about what to buy for Angela and Hodgins' baby. "I'm going to be the only one without a child," Bones (Emily Deschanel) observes. Caroline (Patricia Belcher) enters, telling B&B the bloody girl, dubbed Jane Doe (McKenzie Applegate), found in the alley is a "deaf mute." It's also not her blood.Grace (Michelle L. Gardner), a social worker assigned to protect the girl, resists Bone's attempts to test the girl to find her age and identity -- as well as the location and identity of the person who is obviously missing so much blood. The team finally convinces the attorney to allow for tests, but Jane Doe has other ideas. She grunts, jerks and tries frantically to get away. Arastoo (Pej Vahdat) notes the girl is clearly in distress. "Right now you have to see her as evidence," Bones says rather coldly. Booth (David Boreanaz), meanwhile, analyzes bloody money found in Jane's pocket and determines that it comes from an ATM as the serial numbers are sequential. They might be able to track the money to a specific ATM.Later, Jane STILL refuses to cooperate and Bones grows more and more impatient. Sweets (John Francis Daley) pulls the good doctor aside to remind her of how she felt while in foster care. "I wasn't a potential murder suspect," Bones argues. Sweets convinces Bones to rethink her approach. "She's terrified," he concludes. So Bones takes an alternate approach and has the girl hold her arm over an X-ray device. "She's definitely over 13 years old, but less than 17," says Bones after examining the bones. Unfortunately, no missing minors matching the girl's description can be found in the area. Camille (Tamara Taylor) calls with news: the blood indicates a white male in his mid 40s. Booth then uses photos from the ATM to ID the man: Duval Price. B&B immediately head to the man's apartment -- and find blood on the floor. They follow it to the man's dead body. He is long dead."Why would she kill him and take the weapon with her?" Sweets asks B&B at the diner. "We just put her away without knowing all the facts." Bones says no -- and points out the heavy oak door was splintered, an impossible task for a young girl. Later, Bones watches tape of Jane signing during an earlier interrogation and picks up the girl's signing "dialect." It's a rural dialect. Angela (Michaela Conlin), who is having occasional labor pains, does a quick computer scan and identifies it as coming from southern Pennsylvania. Angela also reconstructs a crumpled paper found in Jane's pocket and discovers a bus ticket. Booth tracks that bus number to a specific small town in Pennsylvania. It gets better: another scrap of paper in Jane's pocket came from a hardware store -- the only one in town.Owners Mike (Sean O'Bryan) and Denise (Pamela Gray) immediately identify a photograph of Jane Doe. "That's Amy!" Mike exclaims. "That's Amy." Mike then explains Amy had run away before and come back. "We couldn't handle her," Denise admits. "She would kick me and fight." Naturally, the parents are anxious to see their daughter. Back at the lab, Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) examines the broken-door fragments and notes they do not match the fibers found on Amy's clothes. Perhaps the door was already broken down when Amy entered. Camille then lets it slip Angela had a few contractions -- and Hodgins FREAKS OUT. He runs to his wife, who admits she didn't want to worry her husband this early.Later, Bones reexamines Amy's X-rays and discovers signs of child abuse. Bones then sits down with Amy and Grace to try to convince the girl to submit to full X-rays.. "I know what you've been through," Bones says with Grace signing to translate. "I know you've been abused." Amy signs "no one will believe me." Says Bones: "People lie, but bones always tell the truth ... no one can say you're lying." Amy agrees -- and the new X-rays reveal years of horrible abuse. "This girl was used a punching bag," says a sad Arastoo. "It's why she didn't want us to contact her parents." Later, Caroline hands Amy's parents a court order preventing them from seeing their daughter. Mike vehemently denies any wrong doing. Bones then has a brainstorm -- and reaches out to feel Mike and Denise's noses. They don't have the tell-tale signs of Amy's condition, which is genetic. "They aren't Amy's parents," Bones concludes. Uh oh.The parents are soon in the interrogation room. Sweets feigns sympathy with the parents to get them to admit to occasionally beating her. "We just wanted her to mind," Denise explains. "Her life couldn't be normal if she doesn't mind." Mike, growing increasingly angry, EXPLODES and PUNCHES his wife for talking to the authorities. Booth quickly takes the man down, delivering a few PUNCHES of his own. Bones, meanwhile, examines Price's bones and recreates a scene in which the man collapsed on top of Amy, who then stabbed in the back. "Amy was just trying to defend herself," Bones concludes. CUT to Hodgins, who determines the shattered wood had swelled due to moisture. Checking the humidity readings from that night, he determines the door was broken two hours AFTER Price was killed. "So someone else knocked down the door, saw Price and just left him there," Angela says. Hodgins also found fibers from a flannel shirt.Suddenly, Angela SCREAMS. It's labor! Hodgins LOSES it. He can't find his keys. Hodgins continues to panic as Angela concentrates on her breathing. "Men are so not made for this," Angela says between exhales. Booth, in the meantime, reports a notepad was found at the crime scene with Amy's bus number and arrival time written on it. Also: phone records reveal Mike called Price one hour before Amy arrived. CUT to Bones, who tells Amy she knows what happens. It goes like this: Mike couldn't risk Amy telling anybody about the abuse, so he called his buddy Price to kidnap Amy and hold her until he could get there. Amy was scared and grabbed the knife to protect herself -- and stabbed the man when he tried to subdue her. Mike arrived too late -- and panicked and fled when he discovered Price's body. Bottom line: Amy couldn't stand to be beaten again. "I killed a man," Amy signs. Bones is in tears by the end of the story.Bones then tells Amy they believe she was kidnapped when she was three -- and Mike and Denise aren't her real parents. "So who am I?" Amy asks through signing. Replies Bones: "We will find out -- together." Later, Bones relates her own sad story of holding onto pleasant memories while in foster care. Amy is inspired -- and says she only remembers a stuffed bunny. It's not much to go on. "This might seem like a strange request, but I would like permission to have one of your wisdom teeth pulled," Bones says. Why? The isotopes in the tooth could reveal her origins. Amy agrees. Cue MONTAGE of Bones examining the tooth with the help of Arastoo ... pinpointing the San Fernando Valley ... and then a missing children's photo of Amy surfacing. Bingo. So Amy's real parents have been located. We then cut to about-to-be parents Angela and Hodgins, who are exiting the hospital with no baby. "This is why nature invented false labor," Hodgins says. "We needed a dry run ... next time I'll be fine. I'll be your rock." The episode ends with a tearful reunion between Amy -- real name Samantha -- and her weeping Mom (Julie Wittner) and Dad (Matt Miller), who produce a stuffed bunny. Tears all around.
