The Masks
It is Mardi Gras time in New Orleans....
more
It is Mardi Gras time in New Orleans. However, for Jason Foster, there is very little celebration, as he is close to death's door. Also at hand to visit him, are his relatives:Wilfred Harper, Sr- A man very concerned with money.Emily Harper- Jason's daughter, constantly fretting over the fear that she has some form of illness or another.Paula Harper- Wilfred and Emily's daughter, who is quite vain.Wilfred Harper, Jr- a rather brutish young man, who Jason reveals is given to torturing small animals for amusement. The family members greet Jason with concern, of which he shrugs this off by giving them rather scathing remarks about their personalities. Even so, Jason proves hospitable in having his servants provide the four with an excellent dinner.Once dinner is finished, Jason reveals that he has a surprise for them all: he has prepared a series of masks for everyone to wear, fashioned by an old cajun. Per tradition, each person wears a mask that is supposed to be the opposite of their personality. For example, Jason's mask is a skull (the face of death), since he is still alive. After viewing the masks that Jason has chosen for them, the family refuses to wear them. However, Jason reveals that their refusal comes with a price. He has already made out his will to them, well aware that they are only there out of concern for his fortune, and not for him. Per his conditions, the family must wear their masks until midnight, with the promise that if any of them removes their masks before then, they will be given train fare back to Boston, with no claim over Jason's fortune. The family concedes and put on their masks. As midnight closes in, the family laments having to wear the masks, as Jason begins to grow weaker. With his dying words, he criticizes each of the family members, claiming that they think inwardly of their own petty wants and desires, and that they do not respond to love or consider it. As the clock finally strikes midnight, Jason expires. As Wilfred Sr checks his pulse, he happily proclaims that Jason is dead, and removes his mask...only to have his family recoil in terror.Wilfred's face has taken on the exact appearance of the mask, and it is soon revealed that everyone else's face has done the same. Only Jason's face is the same once the doctor is called and the mask is removed. His face is one of calm. Though the family has Jason's fortune, they now must wear the faces of how they are on the inside.(by Dane Youssef)Jason Foster is a notably wealthy entrepreneur who has not much longer to be among us. He lives in the great city of New Orleans. He has acquired quite a monopoly during his long years here. But of all his accomplishments, one remains uniquely unimpressive--his family. His only relatives are his daughter, a son-in-law and their two equally unsavory children. His baby girl Emily panics over the slightest discomfort. Always diagnosis herself as terminal in any and all situation. Emily is terminal, all right. As a hypochondriac who fears illness so much, she bemoans life itself. Her spouse Wilfred is a successful entrepreneur (but not in Jason's league) always calculating and appraising everything. A businessman to the core, seemingly incapable of love. Paula, thy name is vanity--forever looking into in the mirror. The son of Wilfred and Emily, Wilfred Jr. , is the stereotype of the ungentle giant--big, dumb and stupid. He's just a schoolyard bully all-grown up, body--but not age. We hear he even enjoys torturing small animals. They are unaccountably bankrupt in morals. It may well-be having someone as rich-as-God as Jason in their kin may have spoiled them rotten to the core, past the point of no return. When the family arrives, it is not with open arms for Jason. They complain how uncomfortable the trip is. Everyone gives a forced greeting to the dying old miser. Why? Because the clan is all there for two simple reasons--to enjoy the end-all festival of Mardi Gras in its heartland city of New Orleans.... and to collect what Jason has earned all the time he has spent here the nanosecond he "leaves."But Jason has a surprise planned for all of them. After a luxurious family banquet, they are to have a family get-together in the house. And they will all wear Mardi Gras masks, hand-picked by Jason himself, and hand-made by an old Cajun. And not to be removed until midnight sharp. Why? Is this just a weird indulgence to humor? At midnight, the masks are to be undone and to unveiled. And so is everything else....(by Dane Youssef)

more
Opening narration:"Talky Tina, the doll that does everything, a lifelike creation of plastic and springs and painted smile. To Erich Streator, she is a most unwelcome addition to his household- but without her, he'd never enter the Twilight Zone."It's little Christie's (Tracy Stratford) birthday and she is excited about her new present. However, as they pull into the driveway, her mother, Annabelle (Mary LaRoche), instructs Christie to run upstairs with her new doll, not to show it to her father. However, mother and daughter are stopped by Erich (Telly Savalas), as they enter the home. Christie is eager to show off her new present, a talking doll called "Talky Tina" (voice: June Foray), which repeats "My name is Talky Tina, and I love you very much!" Erich demands to know how much it cost. Annabelle says Christie has wanted this doll for months and that she charged it. Erich angrily states that Christie does not need another doll. Christie flees the room, leaving Talky Tina behind.Annabelle follows Christie, and Erich examines the doll. He winds the key on the back of the doll and hears it say "My name is Talky Tina and I don't think I like you." He winds the key again and the dolls says, "My name is Talky Tina, and I think I could even hate you". At hearing this, he throws the doll against the wall across the room.Annabelle re-enters, and we learn that Erich is actually Christie's stepfather and is bitter because he cannot sire children; further, that Annabelle did not tell him she had a daughter until after they were married. Annabelle pleads with Erich to be kinder to Christie. At the dinner table, Christie pretends to feed Tina. Erich becomes annoyed, and Annabelle declares that Tina is good for Christie, that it gives her someone to play with. Erich still believes Annabelle bought Tina as a reminder they cannot have children of their own. Erich catches the doll winking at him, while the others are looking elsewhere at the table.Left alone with the doll, Erich hears it say "My name is Talky Tina and I'm beginning to hate you." He replies, "My name is Erich Streator, and I'm going to get rid of you." Tina exclaims "You wouldn't dare! Annabelle would hate you, Christie would hate you, and I would hate you." Erich places a match next to Tina, who gasps. He says "Then you have feelings!" The doll replies "Doesn't everything?" Erich accuses Annabelle of placing a walkie-talkie in Tina and speaking through the doll to "get back at him." She, of course, denies it.Finding the doll, Erich goes into the garage and places it in a trash can with a lid. When Christie seeks the doll, he tells her he doesn't know where it is. Later, the telephone rings. Erich answers and the voice on the other end says, "My name is Talky Tina, and I'm going to kill you."He checks the trash can and is startled to find Tina gone. He again accuses Annabelle of teaming up with Christie to frighten him; she, worried and baffled by his seemingly irrational accusations and suddenly insane behavior, pleadingly denies it. Erich finds Tina in Christie's bed. Christie is asleep, but the doll speaks to awaken her. Erich confiscates the doll as Christie cries and Annabelle rushes in. Erich says "The doll was in her bed. She's the one that's been doing it." Christie begs "Daddy, please!", and Erich yells "I'm not your Daddy!"As Annabelle desperately tries to reason with Erich, he starts to come to the chilling realization that neither she nor Christie are the source of Tina's taunts. It's something unexplained and frightening. Now knowing he must destroy the doll to save his life, he returns to the garage intent to destroy the doll. He first places the doll's head into a vice and tightens it, but the doll only looks at him and laughs. He then tries to use the blow torch to burn it, but the torch keeps extinguishing before it reaches the doll. He then attempts to use the table saw on it, however, that only throws up sparks. While he tries to destroy the doll, Annabelle walks into the garage. When she tries to stop him, believing him to be mad in destroying what is only a child's toy, he angrily pushes her away. After Annabelle flees the garage, Erich looks at the doll's neck, only to find the neck to not even have a scratch on it.Realizing he is unable to damage the doll, he puts it into a burlap sack and ties a cord around it; then throws the doll back into the trash can. As he places heavy bricks on top of the can's lid, he hears the doll laugh. He returns to his bedroom to find Annabelle packing to leave. "How could I live with you after what you've done?". "I had to", Erich insists. "You had to, to show your hatred towards me and for Christie!!", she snaps. She states his need to see a psychiatrist. Erich insists the doll was talking to him, but offers to return it. She agrees to stay. Returning to the trash can, he is relieved to see Tina still there. As he retrieves it from the can, it says "My name is Talky Tina, and I don't forgive you!" Erich hushes "Shut up, shut up!", and goes back to Christie's bedroom to reluctantly hand her the doll.Later that night, Erich is awakened in bed by muffled noises outside their closed bedroom door. Telling Annabelle to stay in the bedroom, he goes out of the bedroom to investigate. He looks into Christie's room to see Tina gone. He starts to walk down the stairs, but trips on Tina, lying on one of the steps, and tumbles uncontrolled down the long stairway. Tina falls down to the bottom of the stairs, landing inches away from where Erich lies dying. Erich, with just enough fading strength to open his eyes, sees Tina looking at him - as his vanquisher. He then closes his eyes and dies. Annabelle screams "Erich!" and runs down the stairs. She picks up Tina who chillingly warns her, "My name is Talky Tina...and you better be nice to me!" Annabelle, in stunned horror of realizing the doll's true, evil nature, tosses down the doll away from her.Closing narration:"Of course, we all know dolls can't really talk, and they certainly can't commit murder. But to a child caught in the middle of turmoil and conflict, a doll can become many things: friend, defender, guardian. Especially a doll like Talky Tina, who did talk and did commit murder, in the misty region of the Twilight Zone."

As he readies the pistol, the school's bells sound. Fowler finds this somewhat strange, and going into the University, returns to his classroom. As he sits contemplating for a few moments, he is shocked to find that several of his former students have returned from the dead, and are sitting in the classroom. They are all there to thank him for what he had taught them, and how it helped them in their lives.Their kind words of thanks cause Fowler to reconsider his plans. He returns home where a group of carolers sing outside his house. As his housekeeper is pleased that he has returned safely, Fowler sits down to a late supper, and explains that he feels he has accomplished something in his life, and will retire without regrets.

It all starts when an army major wakes up in a small cylindrical room with no way out. The walls are too high to climb and they're too hard to puncture. Trapped inside with him is a clown, a bagpiper, a ballerina, and a hobo. They have all woken up inside there and have no idea where they are, what they're doing there, how long they've been there or even who they are or how long they'll be there. They apparently are unable to feel anything, and every now and then a loud clanging sound makes them all fall down. All of them have tried various ways of finding an exit, unsuccessfully. The army major especially is determined to escape. He tries all sorts of ways to find an exit, but he cannot find one. Even when he hits the walls with his sword, it shatters. The major suggests that they are in Hell, so there IS no way out. Eventually the five characters decide that the only way out is to make a human tower. But then when the ballerina nearly reaches the top, the clanging sound goes again and they all fall down. They try again and the major falls over the edge, out of the cylinder, onto... The scene then cuts to a little girl picking up a doll in the snow and putting it back into a toy barrel--an Army Major doll. It turns out that the prisoners in the cylinder are actually toy dolls, and the room is a toy collecting barrel for an orphans' home, and the clanging sound is the collecting woman ringing her bell.

Through unseen forces, Lutze 'feels' the pain that the tormented felt. As he collapses to the ground, Becker explains to him, that "This is not hatred. This is retribution. This is not revenge. This is justice. But this is only the beginning, Captain. Only the beginning. Your final judgment will come from God."Lutze is later found, and taken to a mental hospital. As the medical personnel prepare to leave, the Doctor who examined Lutze questions why a place like Dachau still stands.Rod Serling in voice-over answers that question to the viewers in his closing monologue: "There is an answer to the doctor's question. All the Dachaus must remain standing. The Dachaus, the Belsens, the Buchenwalds, the Auschwitzes - all of them. They must remain standing because they are a monument to a moment in time when some men decided to turn the Earth into a graveyard. Into it they shoveled all of their reason, their logic, their knowledge, but worst of all, their conscience. And the moment we forget this, the moment we cease to be haunted by its remembrance, then we become the gravediggers. Something to dwell on and to remember, not only in the Twilight Zone but wherever men walk God's Earth."

It's a Good Life
(by Dane Youssef)In the great state...
more
(by Dane Youssef)In the great state of Ohio, there is a rural and small town which calls Peaksville. It has to because most of the world is unaware it even exists. And Peaksville itself is without many occupants or any signs of technology from at least the 18th century. There are no working automobiles or machines of any kind. Little Anthony is praised to high heaven and back for all his doings, no matter how wrong or outright criminal. Even animals aren't safe from his wrath. When numerous dogs bark at him judgingly, Anthony sends them out to the cornfield.... and under it, where they shall never be heard from again...Dan is at a breaking point when he is forbidden by little Anthony to play his own record on his own birthday. Tired of the constant strain of having to always keep himself in check--and do whatever Anthony wants at every hour, Dan has a few too many to drink. And the booze finally gets him to unravel completely. He gets up and starts ranting. No one needs telepathic powers to know what Dan's thinking. He tells them all in plain clear English. And at the end of his patience and tolerance for life in little Anthony's world, he begins singing as a madman in tears. It's both painful and heartbreaking. This is the last of the whiskey in the entire town. They'll be "sent away" if they dare so much as try to go against what Anthony wants."Somebody end this, now! Won't someone take a lamp or a bottle to his skull and end this?!" But no one does. Apparently, the strain the child has put on all of them isn't quite yet a fate worse than death. Only our hero Dan seems to have worked up the nerve to be willing to put an end to all this. And inevitably, Anthony sends him away just like the others. To the Cornfield. Under it... And just then... right outside, out there on the cornfield... Christmas comes a little early this year. It's snowing. Real hard.Hard enough to do some serious damage to the crops. Is there anything more dangerous... than a spoiled, selfish, stuck-up little brat who always gets his way?(by Dane Youssef)

more
Jesse Cardiff has given his life to the game of pool, beating almost anyone he comes across, claiming that he is one of the greatest pool players of all time. However, much to Jesse's frustrations, many claim that Fats Brown is the true champion, and he's also dead. Jesse swears that he could beat Fats Brown, and through a twist of fate, Fats returns from the dead to challenge Jesse.Fats chooses to place Jesse's life on the game of pool the two will play. Fats is all about trying to play a 'friendly little game,' but Jesse plays as if he's out for blood. As the game nears the end, Fats talks of how along with pool, he did other things with his life. However, Jesse takes these words to be a distraction. Finally, with one ball left to sink, Fats warns Jesse that if he does win the game, he may get more than he bargained for. Jesse proceeds to win, and revels in his victory that he has defeated Fats Brown.Fats simply says thanks, and departs, but Jesse just continues to gloat in the victory of having finally defeated the one man everyone said was the greatest. The scene then dissolves to sometime afterward, near a pool table in a heavenly setting, with Jesse looking beaten and downtrodden. Unknown to Jesse, is that when it comes to saying you're 'the best,' you often have to keep proving it time and time again. Fats Brown, meanwhile, having been freed of his obligations, has gone fishing.

more
The episode begins with Roger Shackleforth standing in a telephone booth, trying to contact a girl named Leila. Roger is so obsessed that he continues to dial her number until she picks up the phone. When she finally does, she tolerates his protestations, but does not return his affection. After she hangs up, a person waiting for the telephone forces Roger out so he can make an emergency call. As Roger tries to protest, the man gives Roger a business card, informing him that the person listed on it can help solve the problems that the man overheard through the phone booth.Roger takes the card, and goes to the residence of a Professor Daemon. The Professor is an old man who has very little patience for quibbles, and wants to know why Roger is there. When the Professor asks Roger if he seeks wealth or power, Roger simply mentions that he just wants Leila to love him. The answer bores the Professor, but he assures Roger that he can make Leila love him with the use of a love potion. The Professor hints that this may be a bad idea, but Roger is too excited to listen to him. Roger eagerly buys the Professor's potion for $1, and hurries off.Roger soon after arrives at Leila's apartment with some flowers and champagne. Even though she doesn't want to see him, she is willing to take him up on his offer for just having a glass of champagne. As she freshens up, Roger pours the potion into her glass. Soon after drinking it, Leila falls madly in love with Roger. The two are wed shortly thereafter.6 months later, Roger has grown a bit exasperated over the potion's effects. Just as the Professor promised, Leila loves Roger passionately, and does everything she can to please him. Feeling at the end of his rope, Roger returns to the Professor's residence. Roger tries to act like everything is perfectly fine, but the Professor soon gets him to admit that he's going out of his mind with how stifling Leila's love for him is. Roger asks the Professor if Leila's love could be controlled or tempered, but the Professor says that the only way to end the desires is with a special potion of his, that he calls 'The Glove Cleaner.' The potion is an untraceable, painless, tasteless poison that Daemon offers to sell Roger for $1000. Roger is upset to lose all his savings, but finally relents. The Professor warns Roger that he must administer the potion without hesitation: if he loses his nerve, he'll never be able to administer 'The Glove Cleaner' again. As Roger leaves the Professor's house, the old man mutters to himself: "Always the same way. First the stimulant... then the chaser."Roger returns home with some champagne to administer 'The Glove Cleaner' with. Roger asks Leila to light some candles, which distracts her as he administers the potion to her glass. Just as he is about to give her the poisoned champagne, she coyly reveals to him that she's pregnant. The shock causes Roger to drop the glasses, spilling the potion. Roger mutters to himself that he couldn't have gone through with it anyway. As Roger's head falls back in a daze, Leila cuddles close, and lovingly reminds him that they'll be together for the rest of their lives.

more
On Maple Street, a strange whoosh is heard and the flashing of lights is seen. Shortly thereafter, almost all the electronics and machines on the street stop working. A small group of neighbors is unsure what has caused this. One little boy suggests it's the work of aliens, but his assumption is excused as ridiculous. As the neighbors continue to talking, one neighbor's car starts on it's own. The group instantly grow suspicious of the man and his family. The owner of the car denies any knowledge as to why this is happening, but few are seldom to believe him.The blame keeps getting passed around, as someone reports of a neighbor who stares up at the sky on some nights, looking for something, as well as tinkering with something in his basement. As night settles, a dark figure is seen coming towards the group. One man pulls a pistol out and shoots the figure, who crumples to the ground. Upon further inspection, it is revealed that the figure was another neighbor, who had supposedly left the street to see if anyone over in nearby streets was experiencing the same issues. The person who fired the gun is then further surprised when his house's lights turn on by themselves. Several people attempt to stone him, before he crazily yells that he believes the alien to be the boy from before, who talked of aliens. As the panic rises, lights and machines all along the street begin turning on and off, sending the once simple people into a mad panic, placing blame on each other and causing chaos. On a hilltop some distance away, two aliens observe the panic, explaining to the other that mankind is very easy panic, and that they can just as easily turn on the other, which will make domination over their species by the aliens rather easy.
